Is diarrhoea a COVID symptom or not?

So many different symptom lists floating around. The NHS one is unconvincing.

Yes. According to our GP. It's a virus and diarrhoea is a viral symptom.

cathyandclare · 04/08/2020 13:43

Yes it can be.

My son literally pooped himself before becoming very ill with Covid.

Pelleas · 04/08/2020 13:51

Following - have had this for last 24 hours and now got sore throat.

Zoomintheroom · 04/08/2020 13:52

Yes it is.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 13:52

@Pelleas I would be getting a test.

IpanemaSunshine · 04/08/2020 13:53

Yes it was for me (covid confirmed by doctor) and best friend (positive swab). Also had extreme nausea, lost over a stone. I’d say my stomach still hasn’t properly settled down and I was first ill back in March.

ArriettyJones · 04/08/2020 13:54

Oh dear. Thanks.

@ineedaholidaynow I am in two minds - my temperature is normal but I am monitoring it. Obviously not going out.

Tilly28 · 04/08/2020 13:59

There’s plenty of tests available. Get one!

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 14:00

Tests are there to be used @Pelleas, get one posted to you so you don't have to go out (especially with stomach issues!)

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 04/08/2020 14:05

I'm really confused then, I have had chronic diarrhoea for the last 3 weeks, high temp and fatigue. Specifically asked about covid as work had asked me to get it checked but they keep telling me it isn't a symptom.

QueenBlueberries · 04/08/2020 14:06

I believe that in this country, diarrhea isn't on the 'official' list of symptoms. But it is in other countries, and many people have reported it as one of the first symptoms. So if it's alongside either temperature, sore throat, or lost of taste and smell, then yes it's worth testing. Vomiting can also be a symptom.

We did a test for DS the other week, we registered online on Sunday afternoon, got the test Monday, posted the test by 4pm Monday, and had the results on the Thursday by text. It's really straight forward. It's a bit faster if you go to a physical testing center but depending on the age of your child it might be easier to do the test at home.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 14:06

@Tinyhumansurvivalist I assume you are not at work

TBF, the problem is you need to the diarrhoea to abate enough for you to safely leave the house to get tested.

I’m asking for DD, not myself, but I can completely see why @Pelleas has other priorities.

Are postal tests part of the big testing expansion then?

Nope, gp has signed me off. They think its campylobactor but they weren't bothered about doing any tests. But now I am on week 3 of intermittent symptoms they have asked for a sample. The problem is I took immodium in the early hours of Monday as I was exhausted and needed sleep and now I can't go at all

Porcupineinwaiting · 04/08/2020 14:14

Yes it's a common symptom. It was my first symptom.

cathyandclare · 04/08/2020 14:15

You should have had a test on the basis of the fever alone.

Why? I have no other key symptoms. Not trying to be argumentative just curious as my gp is aware of my symptoms and is adamant it is not covid related.
Porcupineinwaiting · 04/08/2020 14:20

A high temp is a classic COVID symptom. How can you not know that?

brastrapbroken · 04/08/2020 14:21

I have had chronic diarrhoea for the last 3 weeks, high temp and fatigue.

Me too, well for 2 weeks. Didn't go for a test re temperature as I have Campylobacter.

thaegumathteth · 04/08/2020 14:23

@Tinyhumansurvivalist get a test

Honestly don't really understand why you haven't already

Is diarrhoea a COVID symptom or not?
UncleShady · 04/08/2020 14:25

I have a hospital appointment coming up and the by-phone pre-screening asked about temp, cough, loss of taste, diarrhoea, nausea & vomiting, fatigue, shortness of breath.
