Is diarrhoea a COVID symptom or not?

So many different symptom lists floating around. The NHS one is unconvincing.

I am aware that a high temperature is a symptom but you have to have that combined with others and I don't have a cough or loss of taste etc.

I have spoken to my gp 3 times and they are adamant it is not covid so wont test for it

Pelleas · 04/08/2020 14:26

I have booked one - you're right, better to be safe than sorry and I am in one of the hotspots Sad.

My sil had very bad diarrhoea, she also had vomiting. But that didn't last as long as the diarrhoea, she lost 2 stone she had it that bad. She didn't have fever, her temp raised up and down, she had tightening/pressure on the chest, not able to take deep breaths, very tired and lost her taste about a week into it.

Porcupineinwaiting · 04/08/2020 14:29

@Tinyhumansurvivalist no you dont. 1 of those symptoms is enough to get tested all on it's own.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 14:31

And your GP doesn't have to organise a test for you either you can order one

ProbablyFault · 04/08/2020 14:34

I don't understand how it's August and people aren't aware of the criteria for a coronavirus test.

Well the comms has been terrible, and look at the NHS symptoms page:

4 in my family got Covid. No one got a cough and only one had high fever. I had a very low grade fever.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 14:37

The NHS website is rubbish, it should list more symptoms

Singalonggong · 04/08/2020 14:39

When in doubt test. There's no harm in testing and it helps to add to our knowledge even if it's negative (and the false negative rate is fairly high).

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 04/08/2020 14:43

Both my elderly parents who tested positive for Covid, and who both subsequently died, both started off with diarrhoea.

I caught it too (not tested but was nursing them and had the same symptoms in the right time frame) and I started off with diarrhoea and nausea. I think they do accept it as a symptom now, but back in March/April they didn't seem to - at least they didn't when I phoned 111.

Trumpspeach · 04/08/2020 14:46

I didn't strictly meet the NHS requirements but developed a sore throat and general malaise. I had the test last night and am now waiting for the results and since yesterday feel more unwell, but am not sure how much of that is suggestibility

i think that if you are in any doubt or are anxious then you should test.

Trumpspeach · 04/08/2020 14:46

Meant to say I also had a brief bout of diarrhoea.

cece · 04/08/2020 14:51

Just book a test online. No need to go to doctor. I've booked two now and it takes 2 mins to book it.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 15:08

I've seen people also recommend the Zoe App to list your symptoms so gives a bigger picture of what are the most common symptoms for research purposes

ArriettyJones · 04/08/2020 15:46

@iwantmyownicecreamvan Sorry to hear about your parents. That sounds tough, when even 111 were working off dubious information, and you were trying to nurse them. Flowers

Thanks everyone. I’ve ordered a postal test for her now.

In the covid clusters, diarrhea is a very minor symptom. Not diagnostic.
About as definite as "Not feeling quite right".
