Did anyone go to a restaurant/cafe this weekend?

We went to our beloved local cafe on saturday and I could have cried it was so lovely. They'd taken out a lot of tables so we were all 2 metres apart and had hand sanitiser on every table, which they were wiping down between customers. Even so, we were the only family there the whole time. I so worry places like this won't survive.

Did anyone else go this weekend?

Yes this morning it was lovely and actually felt quite normal

MaureenSowerbutts · 05/07/2020 19:50

Yes, went to a local restaurant i really like twice this weekend! Socially distanced and felt completely safe. It was so lovely to have someone cook me something delicious. I'd be gutted if they closed so wanted to support them as soon as I could.

PymChurchBeach · 05/07/2020 20:01

I almost felt emotional about it!

yep, just a coffee outside, it seemed fairly busy but spaced out. Coffee in the sun, was lovely.

HeadSpin5 · 05/07/2020 20:13

Yep! Coffee yesterday whilst out picking up shopping yesterday then pub garden for lunch today. All appropriately following guidelines (without being in unapproachable Hazmat suits) - so happy to be out and support these local businesses.

I’m really looking forward to being able to have a coffee, but I’m in Scotland so have a bit longer to wait.

Has anyone been to a Caffè Nero? I’m wondering how (if?) they’ve reopened. (And, yes, I would prefer to go to a good independent place, but there are only chains in my local town).

Realitea · 05/07/2020 23:11

Pub garden today - I was really nervous and worried about whether I should go but the joy on my dd’s face when she got to see her little friend and actually being around people again (at a distance!) really has helped
I was starting to get quite hermit like and my mood was dropping.
I feel much more positive now!
I don’t think I’d go indoors just yet though.

Yes had a family meal in a great diner in NI yesterday. It was very busy. Lovely food and atmosphere. Really enjoyed it.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 05/07/2020 23:14

No ... we have been extremely affected by Covid in our family.

Its not even on my radar to go to a pub/cafe/ restaurant.

Fawnfour · 05/07/2020 23:16

Definitely not!!

freddiethegreat · 05/07/2020 23:17

Cup of tea in the almost deserted garden centre cafe yesterday. Carvery today - not as deserted but the socially distanced tables meant maybe 50% of usual capacity and only about 40% (max) of tables occupied. Very quiet but it was lovely.

I went to Nero’s twice! No china or reusable cups, spaced out tables. Pay by card, limited food choices. No cushions on outdoor seats.
Cusano34 · 06/07/2020 08:50

DH has a beer and me and DS had an ice cream in a cone each, sat outside the front of a bar/cafe. Well spaced out :)

CherryPavlova · 06/07/2020 08:55

We had a late lunch at our social club; it was lovely but a few too many people down from London for the golf to be perfect.
Tokenistic measures with staff in visors but standing over you when taking orders. Since they’re handling crockery, it seems a little pointless.

Tables wiped but they always were. A few more outside on the lawns now. No direct access to the bar as table service only. Downstairs lavatories closed to allow a one way system, which is fine if you’re not elderly or have mobility problems.

Torvi · 06/07/2020 09:11

On Saturday we had a couple of drinks at our local tennis club which was outside only. Yesterday we went to an Italian restaurant for lunch. We felt safe and very happy with the way that things had been set up. It was glorious.

Coffee in a garden centre cafe. Didn’t like it Sad don’t think I’ll be doing it again for a while.

PymChurchBeach · 06/07/2020 09:49

I may pop along to our local cafe again this morning with my laptop, if I get fed up WFH. DS back at nursery now too thank goodness.

Our favourite cafe was all booked up this weekend, we couldnt get a table until 12th July. I was a bit disappointed but also pleased for them that obviously they're getting some business. I'll be interested to see their setup as with 2m distancing they'll only be able to fit about 4 tables in there

historyrocks · 06/07/2020 12:27

@PymChurchBeach. I used to spend quite a lot of time working in cafes as a change of scene from WFH. Looking forward to cafes opening again in Scotland. Have a couple of weeks to wait yet.

Isotope456 · 06/07/2020 12:35

I didn't but based on the reports from others this weekend will definitely be doing so in the very near future. Most places locally are independents and really keen to get out to support them.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 06/07/2020 12:47

My local cafe is opening on Wednesday. I do like their Welsh rarebit so will be heading down the hill!

userxx · 06/07/2020 13:26

Definitely not!!

What's with the !! ? It is allowed you know.

Yes, I've been out twice - it's so nice getting back into the real world. Will be out again in the week and next wekend. I'm all for supporting my local businesses.

Newgirls · 06/07/2020 13:29

Yes! I like it with more space - lovely and calm! Not so good for the cafes prob but my nice for this customer
