Did anyone go to a restaurant/cafe this weekend?

We went to our beloved local cafe on saturday and I could have cried it was so lovely. They'd taken out a lot of tables so we were all 2 metres apart and had hand sanitiser on every table, which they were wiping down between customers. Even so, we were the only family there the whole time. I so worry places like this won't survive.

Did anyone else go this weekend?

Yes, breakfast on Sunday at our favourite cafe. System was very well thought out. One way system in place which had queuing to place order in room 1, through to room 2 to collect order which came boxed up with wooden cutlery supplied and then could either take away or sit outside to eat. We sat outside and didn't go within 2m of anyone the whole time. It felt amazing just to have a meal out! Ds got extra bacon as well so was delighted!

I would love to eat out, but DH has type 1 diabetes and we are still being very careful. I'm glad others are supporting the restaurants so that hopefully they will survive and we will be able to go out for a meal when this is all over.

Yes - I went for lunch with my best friend.

I couldn’t understand a word the staff were saying behind their visors so it took 20 minutes for them to add my details to their track and trace database.

We had to have a briefing about the exit, toilets and one way system, part way through this, the poor lady sneezed and snot dripped out of the bottom of her visor.

I appreciated the effort the company had gone to but I think I’m staying home for a while TBH.

Went out for dinner with my husband and it was lovely we went to a local Indian Restaurant, great to be out again realised how much I've missed it

Yes - I went to a little family run cafe on Saturday morning for breakfast. It was very spur of the moment as we were walking past. We were the only ones in there despite them following social distance rules with hand sanitiser on the tables. So sad. I really hope these places have enough customers coming through their doors to survive

Littlepond · 06/07/2020 16:00

I’m going out for dinner tomorrow at our lovely local cafe bar and I can’t wait 😊

Chemenger · 06/07/2020 16:04

We are on holiday in Northumberland, we’ve had a drink in a beer garden and dinner in a restaurant, both were a delight. Everyone seemed very relaxed and happy to be out and about.

Oysterbabe · 06/07/2020 16:34

We've been to the pub and will be going to the same one to eat next weekend. It was really quiet.

jeramiahbonbon · 06/07/2020 17:50

I'm quite nervous about eating / drinking inside at the moment, though am planning to go to a local pub next weekend with a huge beer garden by the river. I had to book, and all orders are taken via an app.
Having said that, I work in healthcare and have spent hours and hours sat in an office over the last few months. I know I have to be there, but then if I've managed to stay safe and well there, I'm not sure why sitting at a socially distanced table in a pub or restaurant makes me nervous? Confused

Can I ask- how people are finding cafes and pubs are managing separate households meeting in their place? Are they set up just for social distancing between groups rather than within?
I think in England it’s 6 people from different households who can meet outside, but for inside what’s the guidance?

2pinkginsplease · 08/07/2020 13:04

We have no plans to Ben going to pubs , restaurants or cafes for a while yet. They aren’t all opened here in Scotland yet but will be soon. I much prefer going to a friends garden to have a few drinks and a catch up along with a takeaway.

I work in a bar/restaurant and To start with I’m hoping others feel the same. Some of the scenes from London were terrifying with everyone huddled together and no social distancing

FizzyPink · 08/07/2020 13:13

We went to a local restaurant on Sunday followed by a few drinks at the pub in the garden.

It was so lovely and felt so normal but I do worry about whether all these places will survive. The pub is normally heaving on a Sunday and it was pretty dead despite having two separate gardens. The restaurant is pretty big but they only had 6 tables full in the two hours we were there at Sunday lunchtime.

Fantasisa · 08/07/2020 13:17

We had a made out at one of our indie's, we sat outside because the weather was nice but I would have sat inside otherwise. It was lovely and so good to feel that we are supporting something we want to survive.

They have had a terrible few months and we need to use them if we don't want to lose them. I am using mostly independent's near me at the moment.

Fantasisa · 08/07/2020 13:18

meal out! Not made out

okiedokieme · 08/07/2020 13:20

Ate at the pub Saturday, felt really good to be doing a normal thing. Was reasonably busy but a couple of spare tables, all 2m apart

okiedokieme · 08/07/2020 13:24

@Miffytastic

Nobody asked us if we were the same household, they aren't the police! There were two groups sitting either side of a coffee type table chatting who were different households and the pub had reserved them that space especially. In the beer garden it was a little more rowdy but people were standing apart (in the rain!)

Miffytastic · 08/07/2020 13:42

@okiedokieme. I thought they had to get details in case of an outbreak?
I’m not so worried about braking the rules, it’s more about not being able to SD

Miffytastic · 08/07/2020 13:43

::breaking:: Blush

Discobar · 08/07/2020 14:36

Been to 3 pubs. No questions about households. Sit where you like basically. Felt pretty normal

PuzzledObserver · 08/07/2020 14:53

I’ve had several takeaways of various kinds, but not keen on going indoors just yet.

I would make an exception for our local Coffee#1 on a hot day, because they have those massive bifold windows. I’d drink in if I could get a seat next to the (open) window.

Delatron · 08/07/2020 15:43

I’ve sat outside at a huge beer garden.

I just don’t feel ready to sit inside yet. It is more risky despite hand gel and social distancing. I’m perfectly happy outside though as the risk is much lower. Let’s hope the weather picks up again.

pollyhampton · 08/07/2020 15:51

DH did a job in a pub local to us yesterday so I popped down to meet him for a drink afterwards. I was a bit apprehensive but it was fine, we sat inside and that was fine. The woman behind the bar had to throw one man out as he kept getting up to speak to other people or try and stand at the bar but he left quietly. There were a couple of tables where people were mixing households but nothing was said.
