COVID test - what colour was the liquid in your test tube?

cliffdiver · 22/06/2020 11:51

I was tested yesterday, had at least a cm or orange coloured liquid in my tube (that you put the swab into).

Due to positive result, DH and DD's were tested today.

They all had a small amount of clear liquid.

Friend I spoke to also had clear liquid.

Has anyone else had non-clear liquid?

Clear

Itsnotahotel · 22/06/2020 11:54

How far does it go up your nose ? I’m seriously concerned about having this test as have really bad issues with my nose I’m meant to have it before surgery but think I’ll have to decline

BrunoMars · 22/06/2020 11:56

Clear, looked like water

violetscone · 22/06/2020 11:57

Clear

The video said about 2.5 cm, you just push it until you feel resistance and then twirl it round about. Feels odd and a bit tickley, but it isn't painful.

My liquid was clear, like water.

RuthW · 22/06/2020 12:12

Mine have all been clear liquid. The tests we have go right up about an inch from your ear.

Tuemay · 22/06/2020 12:38

I dont remember any liquid!!

cliffdiver · 22/06/2020 12:43

@Itsnotahotel 2.5cm up, mine wasn't overly uncomfortable, so I was worried i hadn't gone up far enough, but I guess I had!

Nowhere on the instructions does it say anything about going up to an inch from your ear 🥴

I've had two swabs. One I didn't notice any liquid; the other was clear - and smelt of feet when I spilt it in the car!

cliffdiver · 22/06/2020 12:45

@Tuemay it should have had liquid in (as per instructions).

Neither DD had liquid in theirs, so we alerted them and they brought us fresh test tubes with some liquid in the bottom.

I had a test last week and the solution in the tube was orange, like yours.

Tuemay · 22/06/2020 12:53

That is so weird because I don't remember ANY liquid. Was tested in April in our car. We had to do the test ourselves.

ShopTattsyrup · 22/06/2020 13:17

The ones I use at work have a pinkish clear liquid in. The same ones we use for all viral swabs.

Bol87 · 22/06/2020 13:21

I ordered a home test but it took 48 hours to be delivered and after speaking to 111, opted to go to a drive through same day for a quicker result. The home test liquid was orange. Drive through clear? Maybe just different labs?!

Bol87 · 22/06/2020 13:23

Ps. The nasal swab makes your eyes water & the closest sensation you can think of is stinging but it wasn’t painful to me. They stuck it pretty far up! I found the throat one worse, that was gagging. Bit unpleasant. But not awful either.

SuperlativeScrubs · 22/06/2020 13:38

Our viral medium is slightly yellow, they don't change colour when you stick the swab in.

Also, when a PP said an inch from your ear.... well see the image for reference on where and how deep the swab goes.

TheDrsDocMartens · 22/06/2020 14:11

There’s no way I got mine that deep!

Jellyhater · 22/06/2020 14:58

I had a swab yesterday and the liquid was orange.

raviolidreaming · 22/06/2020 15:13

SuperlativeScrubs where is that image from? Just that surely the swab isn't going in at the right angle?!

raviolidreaming · 22/06/2020 15:15

Found it - no worries! Will need to try better next time Confused (I'm on weekly swabs at the moment)

cliffdiver · 22/06/2020 15:52

Glad to hear it's not just me that had the orange liquid!

Adirondack · 22/06/2020 16:19

@SuperlativeScrubs surely that image can’t be right? Our instructions said 2cm up nostril!

Carlamity · 22/06/2020 17:03

Just had the test - the instructions say insert 1 inch into nose. The liquid was clear.

Porcupineinwaiting · 22/06/2020 17:12

The instructions do say 2.5 cm up the nostril, I guess to prevent you from damaging yourself but ideally you want to be testing the back of the nasal sinus which is a good 4 cm+ in in adults. When doctors in hospital do it they call it "brain scraping" and done correctly is much more likely to find the virus (if you do indeed have it).

Lindy2 · 22/06/2020 17:24

No way is that image correct. The stick the swab is on isn't even anything like that long.

It goes about 2.5cm up your nose. It's odd but fine.

That image would frighten the life out of people completely unnecessarily!
