COVID test - what colour was the liquid in your test tube?

I was tested yesterday, had at least a cm or orange coloured liquid in my tube (that you put the swab into).

Due to positive result, DH and DD's were tested today.

They all had a small amount of clear liquid.

Friend I spoke to also had clear liquid.

Has anyone else had non-clear liquid?

That’s how we do the swabs in the hospital, like the one in the picture.

That picture really can't be right - the instructions for self swabbing clearly state insert about 2.5cm until you meet gentle resistance.

My dad did a home one yesterday and there wasn't any liquid in the tube. Does that mean it was duff??

Meredithgrey1 · 22/06/2020 20:24

DD's test had pale orange-y liquid

annie987 · 22/06/2020 20:51

A reddish pink colour

Blimey! Mine only went in about an inch.
Orangey liquid.

This is actually my job I work in a microbiology lab. There are various swabs from different companies and one of them is in a red topped tube with a coral colour preservative. Another type we use has clear fluid and a green top.

That is indeed how far the swabs are actually meant to go back and how we do them at work. I gather that, to prevent anyone getting a swab stuck or injuring themselves, they don't want you doing that at home!

It makes sense. Another nurse had the swab snap off in someones face a few weeks back.
