Journalist questions on daily briefing re schools just aren’t good enough.

When they actually ask them(which is rare)they don’t follow up when fobbed off to get any answers.

The BBC reporter today just looked bored and when he and more importantly parents didn't receive any answers to his question he just followed it up with a football question.

So sick of it and our weak government who just don’t sort this massive problem for children out.

Totally agree. Where is the passion for this important issue. I find the focus on football etc really distasteful when schools have dropped off the radar.

How completely dismissive and a pointless answer too especially when he mentioned about parents willingness to send them back. I'm perfectly happy and willing to send mine back even without social distancing. They need to open the schools so I can demonstrate my confidence.

We all need to bombard our MP with letters, the Prime Minister too.

They need to know we are angry about this.

We can complain on here but we need to complain to them.

Easy enough to write to, my (very safe Tory seat) MP never replies though, have sent him at least a dozen emails in the past.

I’m getting so frustrated with the assertion that ‘reception and years 1 & 6 are back. My school has only taken yr 6 back, with keyworker pupils, with no plans to bring back more before September. All other local schools are similar, I only know of one school that’s been able to reopen to the 3 year groups fully.

Yes it maddening isn't it if your child is in a different year, as mine are (year 4/7)

@formerbabe yes it's maddening for the reasons you describe, but also because very few schools seem to have accommodated R, 1 and 6 anyway.

There's no year 6 provision at my children's school, there is no room for them after key worker's children, reception and year 1 were prioritised.

MarshaBradyo I have written to my MP, and Gavin Williamson, and the Chrildren's Commissioner. And so far nothing. No reply. No acknowledgement. absolutely bloody nothing
We are all being ignored and it is making me so angry.

My MP has acknowledged my email and said he has written to GW and will come back to me he replies. This was about a week ago.

I assume most journalist don't ask questions on schools because they don't really know how they work or haven't read any of the guidance that has been published (all 50 versions or whatever number we are now at!) When the extended opening was first announced, school nurseries were never mentioned in any press briefings etc, although they were actually the age group to be prioritised, because Bois never mentioned them when he first announced the eligible year groups, but they were mentioned in the first guidance published.

And in many schools they aren't. The Government must surely know that!!
Our bubbles are full of Kw and vulnerable groups. They take priority and after that we can't even get reception back. We have no classrooms left and no spare rooms on site.

Boris kept saying in his last briefing that more and more children are return to school each day. This is rubbish. Schools are at capacity under the guidance the government have given them. They desperately need a plan for September. Why the fuck are these people who have never set foot in a state school allowed to wreck education for so many children?! How is this happening?

Agree with Bluewaves our primary school is at capacity with no year 6.

They do desperately need a plan for September. Otherwise...what? Take some days off the R and Yr 1 kids, so everyone can share by going part time? Those parents won’t be happy!

Though if the government stick to no part time kids at all, must be full time or nothing, then maybe my year 4-5 will be at home til 2021 🤷🏼‍♀️

My dc are the same ages as yours. I'm desperate for them to go back...on another thread I was accused of just wanting free childcare I'm a sahm...I don't need the childcare. My dc need a bloody education.

September is too late for me...I want my dc to be back at school this term. It's outrageous. I feel totally betrayed as a parent by this government.

What I want to know is why Mumsnet isn't saying more about this? You look on this forum and it's overwhelmed by people struggling to home school or to work as well. And Mumsnet is completely silent about this.
