For those who've had it, what were your early symptoms?

I'm sure it's just a bit of tonsillitis, but I've had two days of a sore throat (on one side) and a swollen red tonsil. I'm a bit stuffy nosed. I can't decide if my chest feels a bit tight or I'm overthinking it and I have a headache.

Pressed post too soon. So I was wondering, for those who have had covid-19, how did it start for you?

OP posts:
HollysBush · 11/06/2020 21:30

Felt hot and bit tired for a week, slight sore, tickly throat.

cheninblanc · 11/06/2020 21:45

I've had a tickly cough for 3 days, but achey and tired. Seriously wandering whether to get a test.

Dontknowwhybut · 11/06/2020 21:52

You can get a test now, so you should.

Lovingmylife · 11/06/2020 22:07

Aren't you only supposed to get a test if you have a cough or a temperature?

OP posts:
Xenia · 11/06/2020 22:12

Yes, I think the tests (free of charge ones) are for those who must have both a high temperature and a new dry cough (I've not had anything)

3LittleMonkeyz · 11/06/2020 22:18

My sense of taste and smell was off and then I lost my sense of smell completely. At the time they weren't known symptoms, but obviously subsequently have been recognised as symptoms. I was self isolating because my children had cough/fever/sore throat but for the first few days it was just the smell and taste thing for me, then sore eyes, then a tight chest and sore throat, then a fever. I had a slight cough for half an hour, then started to feel better gradually though I reckon it took a month or two to get back to normal. It hasn't been confirmed and was before the official lockdown but after the 14 days Rule. So a while ago now.

3LittleMonkeyz · 11/06/2020 22:18

My chest still feels a bit tight sometimes and I have had recurring sore throats since, though.

3LittleMonkeyz · 11/06/2020 22:19

Sorry it was unconfirmed but pretty damned sure that's what we had!

Lovingmylife · 11/06/2020 22:20

@HollysBush did it turn into a cough then after the week?

OP posts:
Tootsey11 · 11/06/2020 22:23

Diarrhea for a few days, slight sore throat on one side, like an annoying tickle, then tiredness and chest heaviness/pain started. I did not have a cough. Burning heat in chest and back started on day 8.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 11/06/2020 22:24

My chest felt tight for a few days but I thought it was anxiety (it was the start of lockdown) ... that was the Friday then I woke up with an horrific headache in the Tuesday, then I started to get very hot and had a bit of a cough - stayed in bed all day as felt very 'unwell'. Weds, awful
fever and really short of breath, Thursday sense of smell switched off - like a light switch. Friday diarrhoea and awful stomach pains

Kitcat122 · 11/06/2020 22:27

Fever, aches, chills and very tired. Then chest burning and shortness of breath. Slight cough for a few days in the second week.

Lovingmylife · 11/06/2020 22:29

@Tootsey11 did you get a test?

OP posts:
Lovingmylife · 11/06/2020 22:30

@FabulouslyElegantTits and @Kitcat122 did you get tested?

I had an incredibly sore throat also only on one side for about a week with no other symptoms. I probably wouldn't have thought anything about it but my DH was ill with all the classic symptoms including loss of taste and smell which lasted over a month - I then had a mild temperature on one day, a slight cough and some tightness in my chest. This was early April so testing was not available, but in the last week DH has had the antibody blood test (he works in a hospital) which came back positive. I don't know for sure if it's what I had but the timing suggests it might have been

Lemons1571 · 11/06/2020 22:35

@3LittleMonkeyz I had what you’ve had at the end of January. My throat flares up every now and again too! Sounds wheezy and squeaky as well.

Bol87 · 11/06/2020 22:35

You sound a bit like me OP! I’ve got a bit of a sore throat, mostly on one side! Feels a bit like my glands are swollen. I’ve got a stuffy, sore nose. I’m really tired but I’ve got a 12 week old so no shock! Bit of headache on & off.. I can’t decide if I’m just run down from 12 weeks of sleep deprivation or it’s an illness?!

I’ve ordered a home test kit. It’ll tell me one way or another. If I don’t have it, least I know it’s just me being run down!

Lovingmylife · 11/06/2020 22:39

Did you order it through NHS website @Bol87

FabulouslyElegantTits · 11/06/2020 22:43

@Lovingmylife

No, I haven't been tested. I think the sense of smell disappearing secures the diagnosis for me (that's why the GP said) I was too unwell to leave the house to go and be tested - even if I could have been at the time.

Also, The diarrhoea aspect of Covid (which seems to be little mentioned) has featured heavily in lots of conformed cases round here.

The horrific fatigue and chest tightness/burning lasted for about 4-5 weeks

FabulouslyElegantTits · 11/06/2020 22:44

*excuse all my horrific typos!

Wishfulthinking1977 · 11/06/2020 22:45

My brother who lives with us was working in close contact with a guy who came back from the first hot-spot in Italy, the guy was hospitalised with confirmed covid (fine now back to running 5 miles!) my brother had slight breathlessness, felt a bit fluey and a headache, gone after 5 days! I had (about 5-6 days after him) felt like I was getting a cold, dry throat etc, then sore throat for about 3 days, bit tight chested headache, chills, sweating at night and lost all taste and smell for about 5 days (that was the worst bit!) then diarrhoea for ages! No one else that i was in contact with before I had any symptoms including very elderly vulnerable and small children had anything apart from some had a mild cold! I am also a heavy smoker! Either we all had it very mild or we are all immune who knows! This was beginning of lock down when you couldn't get a test! Xx

Egghead68 · 11/06/2020 22:49

Sore throat.

UndertheCedartree · 11/06/2020 22:54

I had a bit of a sore throat and a blocked nose. A couple of days later I came over so dizzy I fell over. I realised I had a temperature and felt quite tired and weak. I developed a bit of a dry cough and a headache. After about a week I felt pain in my lungs like a burning feeling and tightness in my chest. I had sob and fatigue on exertion. My cough became productive. A couple of times I felt I was recovering and would leave my bed to shower and make dinner for my DC and both times I spiked a temperature again and relapsed. I then ended up in hospital. I had a secondary infection and after fluids and iv antibiotics I felt much better. A couple of months later (from the start of Covid) I am fully recovered except for tiredness and getting short of breath very easily. My taste and smell never went completely but things didn't taste nice but that is back to normal now too.

I hope your sore throat is mild and you recover quickly.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 11/06/2020 22:58

Oh yeah forgot the burning eyes! X
