Who has a YR1 child and hasn't sent them back to school?

Just out of curiosity really.
I'm not on a messaging level with the other parents at DD1's school so don't know who has gone back but I've kept mine at home.

How are you managing homeschooling and are you worried they might fall behind? These are my daily, trivial worries.

Would love to hear from KS1 teachers too- what percentage of children have returned and do you worry about the children's education who haven't returned?

My fretting brain can relax now I've penned this!

I haven't got a yr1 child but about half of yr1 have returned at my DCs school. Why did you decide to keep your DC at home? (Just curious, no judgement!(

At the school I teach in, we had 10 out of 30 return so far.

I’m not worried about their education yet, a few months I think we could catch up on by sacrificing parts of the curriculum they are less crucial and prioritising the “more important” bits - but the longer it goes on the harder it will be to catch up.

I have 5 out of 30 back to my Year One class. I really want the children and their families to be healthy and safe and settled and based on calls home, they seem to be fine and coping well.

I'm a nanny. One of my charges is Year 1. Half the class back. But only 2 days per week.

28ish from 30 yr1 children are back (alternate days) in my dc school . The teacher says most children have progressed in areas like reading during lockdown but have found having to concentrate for a whole day again tricky.

I've not sent my year 1 son back. Out of his class of 24 I think 4 have gone back. Then 2 are in a key worker mixed age group but they have been in the whole time. I explained to head I wasn't comfortable and she agreed.

My year 1 child isn’t back yet. His school were only offering 1 short day per week covering the home learning stuff so it didn’t seem worth the risk when I’m asthmatic and my husband’s diabetic. Plus I’m a primary teacher so am comfortable with home learning. He catches up with his friends on FaceTime and has a year 3 sibling to play with so I don’t feel he’s missing out on anything yet and lots of his friends haven’t gone back either.

50% of my DD class back in yr1.
She bounced home, best day ever, better than pre Corona school etc.

Our school has lots back. Theres even at least 1/6+ of our yr 3 back as KW or vulnerable.
I guess a lot depends on parent ages and health and sahp etc.
Our parents are 99.9% 30+. Our yr 3 ones are possibly mostly 40+.

75% of DC at our school are back plus all the KW children and rising.
Parents are seeing the risks as very low and they needs to get back to work or were juggling working. Different decision if you have a SAHP

I do. My year 1 child hasn’t gone back as he has a clinically vulnerable sibling. I’m a teacher and as I am mixing in my own bubble we felt we couldn’t take on any additional risk at this point.

Reception and Y1 children here. Neither have gone back yet. I would have sent them, I think. But DH is against it for the moment, so I have to respect that.

At the school l teach in, 14 out of 60 year 1s have returned.

About 2/3. Half have only come back since the wider opening, the rest were already in key worker care.

12 out of 30 are back at my school, although 4 of them are key worker children who were already in a key worker bubble.

A lot of decisions seem to be made via class WhatsApp groups.

In ours, only 3 children are still absent and one of them is abroad.

My DS is YR 1 and I won’t be sending him back until school is more normal again. I know school have been advised to offer nothing progressive - just consolidation, so it won’t be any benefit to him academically. He may also be taught by a TA, whereas at home, my partner and I are both teachers.

We were shown pictures and given very clear details of the way the classrooms would be organised and I know DS would find it really confusing and upsetting.

My Y1 hasn't gone back. I can't guarantee he'd be put in the same group as his best friend, who seems to be the only person he's missing, and he'd find it hard to be sent back while his Y3 sister stays at home.

We've been getting on ok with homeschooling - I can't work atm so am able to spend all day with them - and he's a super bright little guy, so was ahead of where he "should" be in most areas anyway.

I'm not sure I've made the right decision tbh, but it just didn't seem right to send only one back.

I haven't sent my year 1 back. I like having her at home and she is happy. I am worried about peer relationships mainly so may try and send her in for the last 4 weeks of term.

I am confident in my parenting, we do all the set school work, plus oak academy, each day.
He will be back in school with a TA leading the class, and doing the same work as that home.

I don't believe easing lockdown will work, and I think there will be a second peak. Although I would be super happy to be proven wrong on this one.

5 out of 60 came back to my school.

I have a year 1 ds going back this week and dd is in reception and going back next week. I don't know about reception yet but in year 1 it looks like around 40 out of 75 are going back. They are in 4 groups of 10 and have a teacher and a TA in each group. Ds has a couple of kids from his usual class and a girl who from another class with whom he gets on quite well. They're such a small group that even if they're not friends on day one I'm very confident they will be in no time.
I'm a SAHM and teaching them at home has gone well. I'll miss them terribly but I really feel that it's best for them that they go back.

My year 1 child has gone back.

Out of his class of 24, 19 have returned.

90% uptake at our school for the R,y1 and y6 which we realise is high compared to many other schools.

My Y1 Dd hasn’t gone back. 28 weeks pregnant so not worth the risk.

Not worried at all about her education. I homeschooled her older brother for years, travelled for most of it while doing minimum formal work and he was still ahead of his peers when he started school in year 6.
