Who has a YR1 child and hasn't sent them back to school?

Just out of curiosity really.
I'm not on a messaging level with the other parents at DD1's school so don't know who has gone back but I've kept mine at home.

How are you managing homeschooling and are you worried they might fall behind? These are my daily, trivial worries.

Would love to hear from KS1 teachers too- what percentage of children have returned and do you worry about the children's education who haven't returned?

My fretting brain can relax now I've penned this!

Live in Sheffield. Our schools not open bar key workers. School said there is no space anyway so mine cant go back. Its a travesty.

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

My Y1 hasn't gone back. I can't guarantee he'd be put in the same group as his best friend, who seems to be the only person he's missing, and he'd find it hard to be sent back while his Y3 sister stays at home.

We've been getting on ok with homeschooling - I can't work atm so am able to spend all day with them - and he's a super bright little guy, so was ahead of where he "should" be in most areas anyway.

I'm not sure I've made the right decision tbh, but it just didn't seem right to send only one back.

I don’t think there is a ‘right’ decision for any of us at the moment so please don’t worry. It sounds like your children are happy and coping well and that is the most important thing at the moment.

My yr1 went back yesterday, only 2 days a week. They have 8 apparently with a desk and resources each and she loved it. Teacher said another 6 on the other rota so 14/30 total. Guess we could have done away with the rota ( I'm a governor) with such low turnout, but basically we decided that if turnout increased we would have nowhere to accommodate them so the rota gives us the ability to have everyone who wants to come in.

No SEN support so can't return. Same story with EHCP school place. We're carrying on at home because we have to.

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal everyone is different and has to do what is right for them don't they - I have a yr 1 and a yr 3 like you, but my yr 1 has gone back two days a week. My yr 1 is lucky though, they are with their friends and have their usual teacher and has come out very happy each day.

My yr 3 isn't bothered about going back (Shock) and it nice for them to have some space from each other. If either was unhappy then I would have to reassess.
