DSD lives in Wales can we pick her up?

DSD(14) lives in Wales, we live in England. So far she has chosen to stay at home. Today she said she's like to come to us until schools open for her to attend.

I've searched the internet but cannot find any guidance about whether DH can pick her up. We were okay before the rules changed for both countries and knew we could pick her up before.

Is there any one on here in a similar situation that can give us a definitive answer?

I think Wales has a tighter lockdown so the police might stop you at the border but your explanation might get you through

Can she not walk across the border and you be parked just in England??

Windy unfortunately she lives over an hour from the border and her mum doesn't drive.

Well they will hardly have turned the border into a frontier with checks it wouldn't work. What route wd u take normally? Could you cross on a b road just in case?

Movement between one parent and another has always been allowed across the UK hasn't it?

Do you honestly think there's border control into Wales? I know we're a small country but c'mon..
I live in Wales and haven't been stopped once, don't know anyone who has been. Just do it. Pretty sure moving a child from parent to parent is permitted anyway.

AFAIK the rules about children with separated/divorced parents is that they should live between both homes as normal so I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble collecting her. I know round here they are running plates and talking to people from out of the area but the ones that get into trouble are coming to look at boats and other silly stuff so you might get pulled but should be ok to continue. They seem to mainly be on the major tourist routes as well so avoid those.

It will be fine to collect her. If stopped, tell them that Dominic said it was OK.

Kids are allowed to move between houses when the parents are no longer together. As kids can't drive themselves, I would think that going to pick her up is a valid excuse for travel.

There were pictures on the news of police stopping traffic , no idea where though , same as Scotland were doing

Runkle if your car is registered in Wales/near where you are driving you won't be. Mind you I live in a tourist hot spot so it might be my experience is different to yours. There are blocks on major tourist routes particularly near holiday weekends and cars parked near the beaches have their plates run to make sure they are registered locally.

I cross the Wales-England border frequently to meet DS's dad and have never been stopped. I think his dad has (England side) but just said he was moving DS for contact and they were fine. The English police probably care even less now!

I honestly didn't know the situation at the bridge, good to hear people are still crossing. It will only be DH in the car so it's not like we will look like a family trying to go on a day trip. It's a long drive (from London) so wanted to check first.

We are still allowed to transport children between parents’ homes In Wales, so it’s considered essential travel. It should be ok as it doesn’t breach the rules in either country. As long as you don’t go to the beach while you’re here!

The rules have always (well from day 2 ) allowed travel for the facilitation of child contact.

Thank you everyone. DH will go ahead and collect her. We didn't want her disappointed if he got turned back.

The Police are making regular checks on the A55 and the A5 into North Wales.
