Surely they’ll have to allow us to go to one other household now

Now that Dominic Cummings has done what he’s done and the government have supported him, saying he’s done nothing wrong.
Surely they’re going to have to allow us to mix with one household soon, otherwise it’s a huge hypocrisy.

He didn’t mix with a household I didn’t think? Thought he had his own house and was there just in case. Yes an idiot for travelling all that way with symptoms so not sticking up for him BTW!

I thought he went to stay with his parents, maybe I’m wrong. But I still think they need to lift some restrictions on seeing family properly soon, or it makes a mockery out of thr whole thing.

It does make a mockery yes. People have had to endure all manner of hardships without support. Some poor people have lost their husband / wife and has no one to comfort them and been left alone with kids during all of this! Him doing wrong is one thing but the government saying he’s not broken any rules is crazy. It’s either a major misjudgement from them or it’s all planned and people being angry is what they want

What I’m saying is if I was in that situation I wouldn’t do it because I don’t want to endanger other people - he is not right but 2 wrongs can never make a right

Apparently he went to a separate house nearby so his siblings could look after his child if they became too sick.... but even if not, the Government would be idiotic to change public health policy simply because an advisor didn’t adhere to it.

He was in a separate property, he was did not mix with his extended family. After his uncle died of covid19 I can imagine he was just making sure his 4yo had someone to look after him if his wife and him where incapacitated.

I think seeing some family will happen in June, that is the way we are heading if all goes well.

I don’t think he stayed with his parents but definitely visited them as reported by his parents neighbour and police.

You would think that someone as well connected as Dominic Cummings and his wife, who is a journalist, would be able to call on friends in London to take care of their child. Like one of the MPs who was defending him this morning on twitter.

Cummings has since claimed that they didn't need any help at the house after all, and between the pair of them, they took care of their son all on their own. So he trekked across England while symptomatic for nothing.

If all of us with children had fled to second homes or family members at the first symptom of possible coronavirus, there would have been no lockdown.

But he had been in hospital for three weeks. Which I imagine was quite a frightening time for them and wanting to protect your 4yo is a perfectly normal reaction. He is lucky he has such good family support.

If all of us with children had fled to second homes or family members I think very few of us who have caught the virus would have willing and able family with a nearby house sitting empty to go to.

Grow up. You’re being told not to mix with family so you don’t spread the virus and destroy the NHS. Just because some tosspot politician has misbehaved doesn’t mean you should be liberated.

the British public were asked not to go to second homes, for fear that we might spread the virus further afield. Cummings and Wakefield actually had symptoms, and went across the country.

It was hardly their only option.

Did you know that Piers Morgan has been tweeting that Wakefield (Cummings' wife) has a sister who lives very locally (about two streets away, allegedly)? Couldn't she have been their back-up plan for if they were both totally incapacitated? What about local friends?

@Time2change2 is correct, he didn't move in with family he stayed in another empty house - not sure if he owned it or not, so his family could help him out with shopping etc. if he became ill. It's still a really flimsy story as other parents have been in his position and have had to manage, so he should't have gone.

The Scottish health minister resigned when she was outed for going to get second home, which is effectively what he did so not sure why MPs are so quick to defend him....maybe he has some incriminating photos?

Cummings was wrong. He went to a house in his parents’ grounds while infected. He went on a nice day out to a castle. Then he came back to London. Then he went back there again and admired them bluebells. Judging by news coming out on twittter he then went there AGAIN on May 10.

He’s taking the mick, but just because he was wrong doesn’t mean we should stoop to his level.

I get why people feel that way. I totally understand. But don’t rush infecting others just because he did.

Our relative died. Our other relative - a dr - was very poorly with Covid. She cared for her own kids from another room as best she could while her husband isolated so he could continue treating Covid patients (he’s also a dr).

She did not drive the 350 miles to her parents.

Note Cummings also went out to a castle one day, out to admire bluebells another day, and went back up to Durham for second visit and its looking like he went back up a third time.

Our relative - a healthy 30s - after six week is still too poorly to do all that back and forthing.

It’s indefensible.

It isn't (yet) proven he mixed households, and even if he did two wrongs don't make a right. The advice may change either sooner or later, but it has to be changed when it makes sense not because some idiot who broke the rules is part of the govt.

What can happen right away though is that he be fired, so as not to give the impression this doesn't matter.

I don't know if all these people breaking the rules don't believe in the rules. They may believe in the rules and think they are very important, but on a population level not an individual one, and they think they can be exceptions. They are actually just another member of the wider UK public, and if we all decide we are exceptions they will be in the shit like everyone else. So you'd hope they could at least pretend to set a good example.

a) Piers Morgan is an idiot.
b) Maybe the wifes sister in London didn't volunteer or wasn't able to look after a 4yo whose parents had the virus.
