All inclusive holiday late July. Lots of changes

We are due to fly out to turkey late July. I was assuming it wouldn't happen but dh has informed me that at the moment the holiday is planned to go ahead according to the holiday company.
However they won't have the buffet service meals and kids clubs won't be on. I am pretty sure there will be other, new changes to the holiday before July.
My question is as the holiday has changed (which we completely understand) do we have any comeback if we cancelled? Mainly because we book an all inclusive for the kids clubs/entertainment and what we will get isn't the same holiday.
I'd rather it be cancelled than end up paying out for an expensive holiday (for five) that has half the stuff we paid for.

Contact you're holiday provider no one here can advise you where you stand in terms of cancelling. You maybe able to move you're holiday to the following year. Are you with Jet2?

Tui. I just wondered if anyone had had any experience with it.

Are you in a position to move the holiday to next year? I have done that with my July holiday with Tui as even if we're allowed to go it won't be the same.

Having been stranded abroad at beginning of the outbreak in early March the main thing I would be questioning is insurance. Will any trips abroad be covered if the worst happened and you contracted the virus and needed hospital care?

That sounds like a really shot holiday. Will you be able to swim in the pools? I'd ask to move it to next year too.

I've moved my july holiday to next year. As long as the holiday is atol protected you should be able to transfer it . I didn't have to pay admin fees because we ended up upgrading our 3 star to a 4 star hotel for just £100 more .

You need to contact Tui. I wouldn't be happy with those changes, with young children buffets and kids club are pretty much the whole point for me in going all inclusive.

I have a holiday booked with TUI too and it hasn’t been cancelled yet - due to fly July. At the moment you can rebook without fees if due to fly before 11th July. Once it gets closer we’ll rebook for next year and take the £50pp admin charge. I’d rather that than a holiday with restrictions. It doesn’t seem fair but they are a business.

We are due to go to Portugal with Jet2 In August have so far only paid a deposit. . Need to pay the remainder of the balance by mid June or it will be automatically taken off our credit card.

So do we cancel now and waive bye bye to our deposit as no way do I want to sit close together on a plane with recycled air, go in a pool etc with people who could have covid and be served food and drinks by people wearing full PPE. Or not cancel and hope the gov say we cant go but think they wont give a stuff as they wont want to bail the tour operators out.

If I thought the gov would say we couldn’t go this year I would hang fire and maybe get my deposit back but I dont want to risk/tie up 4K until next year. And if I cancel after 70 days which is when the gov are likely to make a decision I would loose even more money on the holiday.

Also the DC are teens 15 1/2 and 16 1/2 so unsure whether to move it to next year as don’t know whether we would be covered if the world is in the sane state or next year the 17 1/2 year old may not want to holiday with us.

Just literally received an email from tui saying can amend for free if travelling before end of August.

The bigger question surely is what quarantine processes the UK and the destination will have by then?
14 days for most passengers coming back into the UK - can you take another fortnight off after your holiday to quarantine? If Turkey goes down a similar route and your holiday is for 14 days or less, you're basically screwed

The problem is the holiday firms can’t get it right whatever they do now.
Having worked in travel for 26 years, and I hate myself for saying this, all-inc holidays are a sometimes a nightmare for people getting sick at the best of times, let alone the worst of times like now. Possibly hundreds of people on holiday, you having no control over how many times they wash their hands etc, people drinking too much and becoming lax about stuff.
I’m cancelling mine before the balance due date and I’ll take the loss of deposit as bad luck.
If they didn’t cancel the kids club people would be unhappy, if they do then people are.
As for meals and drinks, waiter service in hotels that normally do huge buffets will be a logistical nightmare and all-inc drinks queuing will be fun.
That said, a lot of people will be cancelling anyway due to finances and other concerns.

@Tiramisuiloveyou i had a similar thing with ours. I called them on Monday and transferred holiday to next July. Had to pay £50 per person but would have lost deposit anyway if i cancelled. Our remaining balance was due out on 1st June and we knew we didnt want to go. Holiday was £300 dearer but expected that.

Presumably if you booked all inclusive you will still get all inclusive but it will be table service instead of buffet? I for one would be glad if buffets we’re banned forever. Apart from the hygiene issues, the mountain of food waste that they create is horrendous.

I have a TUI holiday booked and they've just emailed me advising that they're offering everyone booked to travel before the end of August the option to amend their departure date free of charge.

We are going to Majorca mid July but we haven't heard anything from.TUI.

I thought if it was after July 11 you cant cancel or amend?

@BunsyGirl presumably the OP wanted the holiday she booked though rather than your preferred holiday?

Virgin Atlantic indicated yesterday that it will be August at the earliest. Wish they'd just cancel us in that case so I can get on with trying to get my money back

@crustycrab Yes, I accept that but I really don’t think anyone should be getting upset over changing from a buffet to table service as long as it’s still all inclusive.

Think we’re going to wait to see if hol is cancelled to get the 20% rebooking incentive as well 😆

@Tiramisuiloveyou - you are not coming to my villa in Porches (Casa Capitao) are you? Would be a real coincidence if you are! The restaurants are now open, and by July and August are expecting to have the bars open (outside and table service only). It won't be the same holiday as you expected, but the Algarve is prepping for summer tourists coming. We have had very few cases here, and around 20 deaths in a population in excess of 450,000. So at the moment, a safe place to come!

Can you imagine the flight situation. Would they sit families together then leave a row behind, a row in front unoccupied still nowhere near 2M distance and seats between non household groups, someone moaning because granny is too far away from them, people reaching over people to get to lockers, standing too close together for the loos, hostesses no chance getting past to serve driinks, flog merchandise etc. Even worse if a hen or stag party on board and have had a few too many etc.

m00rfarm no but it sounds lovely and reassuring about the lack of cases/deaths. My problem would be getting there from the UK and the worry if one of us were to get covid over there and be really poorly with it.

The hospitals are pretty good to be honest - and I think by July and August there will be a much better understanding of treatment and avoidance.
