From the Guardian press briefing following the PM's speech:

More immediately, people in England will be allowed to sit in the parks within their household groups, to drive to beauty spots for walks and take unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise. People will be able to meet and sit down with a single other person outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart . Angling, swimming in lakes or rivers, tennis and golf will all be allowed if people are sticking to their household groups.

Strange that something so significant would be in a press briefing but not read out, or am I reading it wrong?

I'd be worried if I lived in Cornwall, Devon, The Lakes, or Wales right now.
There will be a peak in a few weeks and no way will schools go back.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 10/05/2020 20:16

People will be able to meet and sit down with a single other person outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart

What???? Was that in the briefing & I missed it???

Aramox · 10/05/2020 20:20

Where did they get that from?

IamChipmunk · 10/05/2020 20:21

He didnt say that in the briefing pp is saying its written in the press briefing but wasnt said by Boris on TV

ShinyRuby · 10/05/2020 20:22

People will be able to meet and sit down with a single other person outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart.
This wasn't mentioned, I think he changed his mind after some of the VE celebrations, some people have just proved they cannot maintain any form of social distancing.
Garden centres reopening never mentioned either despite being all over the media.

mynameiscalypso · 10/05/2020 20:22

He didn't mention it at all but so presume it will be one of the details tomorrow. I'm not sure it's massively different to the rules now as they always had that groups of no more than two thing but I think it's a change in wording.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 20:23

It definitely wasn't announced during the speech was it? And its pretty big news if correct isn't it?!!? But as it's hidden away (not even in the headline for the piece!!!) I can't believe it's right.....

OP posts:
TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 20:26

calypso but I thought the previous groups of two advice related to 2 people from your household, this says 2 people can meet so surely is talking about different households?

Im wondering if ruby is right and it was planned but taken out of the speech in light of the headlines and reactions over the past few days, and possibly accidently left in teh press briefings?

You can also meet up with one person from outside your household, as long as you remain two metres away from each other. This wasn't mentioned by Boris Johnson, but has been briefed to journalists.

www.lbc.co.uk/hot-topics/coronavirus/new-lockdown-rules-exercise-parks-working-uk/

The Mirror and Telegraph are reporting this too

mynameiscalypso · 10/05/2020 20:29

Oh I thought it related to people outside your household (on the basis that your household may be more than two) but I may have got confused!

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 20:29

Well if it's a mistake it's being printed on another guardian piece....

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/10/uk-coronavirus-lockdown-what-has-boris-johnson-announced

*Unlimited exercise, some sports and meeting one other person outdoors to be allowed from Wednesday

As widely expected, people will be formally allowed to go out for exercise more than once a day. In addition, people will be permitted to meet and sit down with one other person, outdoors, if they remain two metres apart. The new rules will start on Wednesday, when people can undertake “unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise”, and sunbathe or drive to destinations for exercise. Sports including angling, swimming in lakes and rivers, tennis and golf will also be allowed, but only within household groups*

cptartapp · 10/05/2020 20:29

How far can we drive for all this?

missmouse101 · 10/05/2020 20:31

Wales is still closed to visitors and tourism. You are not allowed to drive to exercise anywhere in Wales. Welsh government are persisting with Stay At Home.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 20:32

thanks jellybabies

So does that mean one household can meet up with a single person (as in, me, DH and DC could meet up with my DM), or just 2 single people from 2 huseholds (so only I could meet up with my DM)?

OP posts:
IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2020 20:32

I heard that in the news afterwards too and he definitely didn't say it. Be interesting what's said about that tomorrow.

mynameiscalypso · 10/05/2020 20:34

Yes, if I were to meet up with my DM and DF, I'd presumably be breaking the rules but if they were to meet up with me, is that okay? I assume not because otherwise it makes zero sense.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 20:34

Yes this is one that definitely needs clarifying, so strange that he didn't say it as Im sure for most people this would be the biggest one?

OP posts:
StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 20:35

Just read his speech (Downing street website) as it's definitely not in there. Has the Grauniad got that right? I could find any govt briefing document....

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 20:38

A poster upthread said it is also being reported elsewhere, and the Guardian have mentioned it on 2 separate pieces which would be pretty embarrassing if it is a mistake.

StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 20:38

Pretty big news isn't it..... (for members of Mumsnet! Grin

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 10/05/2020 20:39

There has always been that odd thing about gatherings -

“Unless you are with members of your household, you must not gather in groups of more than two people” - so even though I’m not with a member of my household I can be in a group of two people ...

I’ve always dismissed this as “someone didn’t think this bit through”!

www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-address-to-the-nation-on-coronavirus-10-may-2020
The full transcript, very odd that something so big is missed off .
I'd love to be able to meet my mum for a social distancing walk if that's allowed.

mynameiscalypso · 10/05/2020 20:41

That's the bit I meant @JellyBabiesSaveLives - I never really understood it either but assumed it meant that it wasn't illegal to have a quick chat with someone in the street etc.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 10/05/2020 20:42

This is what the Mirror says

Government officials said that from Wednesday, you may sit with someone from another household in public under certain circumstances.

Those are if you stay 2 metres apart - and if there are only two of you, one from each household.

So one person living alone can meet another person living alone in a socially distanced way and chat from 2 metres away.

But you can't bend the rule to have a very spread-out party in the park with your mates.

Previous rules allowed one person from each household to go on a walk or run together - if they stayed 2 metres away - but not to sit and chat.
