"People will be able to meet and sit down with a single other person outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart"

From the Guardian press briefing following the PM's speech:

More immediately, people in England will be allowed to sit in the parks within their household groups, to drive to beauty spots for walks and take unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise. People will be able to meet and sit down with a single other person outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart . Angling, swimming in lakes or rivers, tennis and golf will all be allowed if people are sticking to their household groups.

Strange that something so significant would be in a press briefing but not read out, or am I reading it wrong?

It's on the BBC site but the wording implies that they've got this from the 50 page document that's being published tomorrow.

Floraflower3 · 10/05/2020 20:46

If this guidance is true it literally says you (one person) can meet up with ONE person from outside your household. What is confusing?

Nb89 · 10/05/2020 20:47

"14Devlesko
I'd be worried if I lived in Cornwall, Devon, The Lakes, or Wales right now."

You cannot travel to Wales. Wales made their announcement on Friday lunchtime. Wales is still on Lockdown with the Stay Home message. You cannot drive in Wales. They said on news afterwards that the English would not be allowed to travel in Wales - thus was on BBC Wales so the message will be lost I suspect.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 20:47

thanks jellybabies seems like it will be clarified tomorrow then, I thought I was losing my mind when I first read it!

What's confusing flora is that a major change to the rules is being briefly alluded to by the press but wasn't mentioned at all by the PM.

Also BJ said Year R, 1 and 6 to return on 1 June.
The media are reporting nurseries in addition. They certainly weren’t mentioned during the speech.

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 21:03

yes I spotted that too moaner and immediately checked my emails for something from DC's preschool, but was obviously way too keen as haven't heard anything yet.

As JellyBabiesSaveLives said, it was always possible for two people from different households to meet up for exercise so long as they remained 2m apart. Presumably so people who live alone could go for a walk with someone. For some reason, it was never discussed.

It makes sense that this is now extended to stopping to sunbathe or whatever.

Do you think if a mobile hairdresser came to your house (or you went to theirs) it would be a breach of law?

You can travel and gather if you can't work from home and it is (travel and gather) necessary for work purposes - doesn't this cover a mobile hairdresser?

I know guidelines on social distancing would be breached but then you have bin men 3 in a cab together (I know they're key workers and hairdressers aren't). Not trying to be trite and yes there are risks but if wore masks, gloves, sanitiser, just one on one and kept away from family it could be a possibility?

wheresmymojo · 10/05/2020 21:13

Do you think if a mobile hairdresser came to your house (or you went to theirs) it would be a breach of law?

Yes, because anyone returning to work (the hairdresser) must ensure that social distancing is complied with.

Good luck figuring out a way to cut hair from 6 feet away...

fia101 · 10/05/2020 21:13

Just to clarify - not saying I'm going to do this or look for a hairdresser - I'm in complete lockdown at moment and haven't left house for weeks - I'm just wondering is this covered in regs.

wheresmymojo · 10/05/2020 21:14

You can travel and gather if you can't work from home

Only with social distancing - 6ft between people - in place.

fia101 · 10/05/2020 21:14

6ft is a guideline though it's not in regs

wheresmymojo · 10/05/2020 21:15

What regulations are you referring to?

fia101 · 10/05/2020 21:15

Health regulations restricting movement and gatherings i

R1R2 · 10/05/2020 21:17

Like all the nonsense the press spewed last week until you are told by the authorities it isn't happening

Deux · 10/05/2020 21:19

I don’t understand. That is the case currently, isn’t it.

You must not have gatherings of more than 2 people unless all people are in your household.

Haplap · 10/05/2020 21:20

You should all read this article from an American associate professor of biology whose life work has been in infectious disease. Understand the risks properly:

AlecTrevelyan006 · 10/05/2020 21:21

some people are determined not to understand things

wheresmymojo · 10/05/2020 21:23

There are 105 regulations related to Coronavirus and at least one piece of statute.

I'm not familiar with all 105 but my understanding is that employers that fail to comply with social distancing can be prosecuted in some way.

I have to wait until tomorrow's release of the 50pg document.

In any case - the answer to your question will definitely be no.

wheresmymojo · 10/05/2020 21:24

I don’t understand. That is the case currently, isn’t it

No - the lockdown rules for the past 7 weeks have been you must not meet with people from other households at all.

DominaShantotto · 10/05/2020 21:24

I’m going to sit on a bench on Tuesday just to make the world end. I’m fairly sure the virus doesn’t have a calendar and know what day of the week it is to literally kill me on Tuesday but not do so on Wednesday.

wheresmymojo · 10/05/2020 21:25

Unless you're in a different country and not in the UK?

If you are in the UK I'm a bit...surprised...that 7 weeks in you still think you can meet with another person from a different household because you can't.

fia101 · 10/05/2020 21:25

Not intending to beach this or advocate a breach just a question

Government guidance for employers is

The advice on social distancing measures applies to everyone and should be followed wherever possible.

Arguably it isn't possible for hairdressers

Deux · 10/05/2020 21:28

Where’s my mojo, maybe I’ve misunderstood the legislation?
