Are people scared of easing the lockdown

According to a poll 2/3 of people in the UK are against easing the restrictions.
I'm curious because when I drove to work yesterday (I work in a school and am on a rota so I go into school once a week) it seemed to be very busy. There were definitely more cars on the road than last week and there were lots of families in the town. I know people have to shop, but I was under the impression that only one adult per household should do the shopping and there were a number of two adult families out and about.
I'm wondering if so many people are genuinely scared of easing the lockdown or if at least some people are happy being furloughed and not at work.
I hated the whole thing at the beginning but now my family have sort of settled into our weird routine so can sort of understand the reluctance to going back to normal as it will mean readjusting everything again. But if the restrictions were eased a little, I don't think I'd be scared.

I'm not. I'd go back to normal tomorrow if I could. I'm on furlough and I don't want to be, I want to be at work.

I want a little bit of normality back, with sensible precautions.

It's a very difficult situation. On the one hand people are upset at us having 'one of' the highest death rates. Thats due to a number of factors beyond lockdown but movement is still a key issue and if it's lifted we'll have had one of the lightest and shortest lockdown periods. On the other hand people are either fed up of lockdown or want/need to go back to work. I think if furlough stops and/or is reduced, people will have a different perception of risk as it hits pockets even more than now.

No I'm not scared. There are being who are desperate to get back to some kind of normal. I am shielded and keeping my dc home until it's safe to do so. All the people can who want to can get in with it as far as I'm concerned and let natural selection get to work. I feel sorry for people who are scared to get back to normal and who won't be protected by employers and have no choices. The ones who choose to take risks though 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not scared but will be being cautious. Depending on what they announce i'm not sure it will particularly do on a day to day basis. We're not going to be rushing back into a full office so will still be working from home, exercising once a day is more than sufficient, supermarket shop is all I really need and i've been doing that online to collect once a week. Can't see the gym or big groups and events starting up for some time.....don't get me wrong, I'd love to see friends and family (family are a long drive away so can't see that happening soon) so just being able to meet other people outdoors would be a bonus.

I do think that easing things now will soon lead to a second peak. Ma h people are out and about pretty normally. People are going to get their hair cut (I'm looking at you neighbour), mixing households, swanning around the countryside having picnics and treating I like one big king holiday. Nothing much will change for these people. And I doubt much will change for the vulnerable as they will probably be more cautious. I don't know what's best to be honest. I just intend to keep my own family safe because I can't influence what others do.

No I’m not scared. We can’t live in lockdown for ever and I’d like us to have some kind of economy left and I don’t want to see mass unemployment which lets me honest will effect the low income in society the worst. As a country we also can’t afford to keep paying 80% of people wage.

I’m under no illusion that getting Covid would be fun, my 2 paramedic friends have both tested positive recently and felt/ feel rough but ultimately they are healthy and will be ok. Most of us IF we get it we will feel rough and it won’t be nice but we won’t need hospital and we won’t die.

The lockdown is going to be eased Boris has already said as much, people are going to have to deal with it! It will not be a case of right all back to normal.....It will be done is phases and things like working from home if your able will be encouraged for a while yet and distancing in supermarkets etc. Eased does NOT mean back to normal

I'm scared of NOT ending the lockdown. The economy is screwed, I'd rather we try and salvage it even if it risks a second wave which hopefully we could cope better with now the nightingales are there.

I’m terrified. Sadly we’ve got the highest death rate in Europe. We’ve had one of the softest lockdowns. Sadly SOME ( not all) people have barely followed that. The number of people who will go straight out and hold kids birthday parties / pop to friends/ days out will just rocket.

Another three weeks then easing would have been better. Also no schools until September.

Not scared at all.

I feel nervous about a second wave of infection. Going back to work means public transport and trying to control my workplace with social distancing. If schools are back after me then that’ll be an interesting balancing act
We have more than others in Europe and their lockdowns were proper. I’m sticking to the rules.
I think it needs to be a very gradual reopening but people seem to be of the mindset that it’s all done and dusted, and to crack on.
I work in a seaside city. The summer with no one able to holiday abroad means we will be busy. How people will social distance remains to be seen but I have my suspicions that it’ll be stressful.

I am worried infection rates will skyrocket if we ease the lockdown.

This being said, and as pp have pointed out, some people already have taken it into their own hands to stop following the rules and are going shopping as families, and not respecting the social distancing etc

I'm scared. I've worked all through the lockdown and been quite happy. I'm worried about everywhere being busier again.

No not at all and I’m cynical enough to say a large amount of people claiming to be scared are just wishing it to go on longer because it benefits them, Ie furlough, no commute, no school run etc. Not all, but enough of them.

They need to cut the funding, open the schools and stop this shit.

It's more like why you wear a seatbelt or finish a course of antibiotics. There are rational reasons for what we're doing. I could take my chances, but then I'd be choosing for other people too.

I suppose that makes breaking the rules more like choosing to drink and drive.

I'm not scared, provided that lifting restrictions is done slowly - and with at least a fortnight between each easing. So we can see what the impact is on transmission before the next step.

I would be scared of a rushed approach.

I would like to see the reopening of desirable retail and maybe services as the first step. Things like garden centre, some clothes/shoe shops (esp those for (growing) children), maybe others.

The number of confirmed cases and death are very high in the UK. I am not comfortable to ease the lockdown. I wish school should not reopen so soon.

I totally get that people want to get back to 'normality' as we used to know it but the last few days I've seen copies of the Republic of Ireland's five point plan for exiting lockdown circulating on social media saying that this is what Boris will be announcing on Sunday. It really scares me that we have had 206,715 positive cases with 30,615 deaths compared to the ROI's 22,385 positive cases and 1,403 deaths. We had 539 deaths today alone. How can we possibly be thinking that the lockdown will be eased at the same rate as ROI?

We still have almost 700 people dying every single day. And thousands of new cases a day. I think it's too soon.

Don't get me wrong, I hate lockdown but I don't want the difficulties of the last 6 weeks to be wasted.

I work in hospitality and have been furloughed, I'm desperate to get back to work before my job dissapears.

I'm not in the slightest bit scared of lockdown restrictions being eased, but then I'm under 30, fit and healthy with no loved ones in the at risk category. I can understand why many would be scared though.

I'm not scared for myself or my family. I've been sticking to the rules, but that's included going into school to supervise keyworker kids. Thinking only of myself, I would like schools to reopen soon because I hate online teaching and the longer it goes on, the harder it will be to catch everyone up.

I don't know whether to feel scared for the country or not. I don't think I'm nearly clever enough to weigh up the possibilities of different scenarios of carrying on, easing socially, opening schools, etc.

@LastTrainEast I agree with the antibiotics analogy we are now IMO the phase where you feel better but you still need to keep going to make sure every little bit you can has gone.
