Have we lost faith in the Oxford vaccine trials?

Just wondering what's gone wrong with the trials in the Oxford vaccine (if anything) a week ago they were spread across the papers as the next best thing, now suddenly they've gone quiet. Matt Hancock is saying we may never find a vaccine at all whilst Today's papers are reporting that Italian scientists have found the first possible vaccine (it works in mice apparently!) so what aren't they telling us do you think?

I hate the way Mumsnet folk round on posters for no reason. It’s pretty cruel. Anyway, I agree with you OP there’s been a subtle change in messaging from the government advisors. It was “vaccine, vaccine, vaccine is the way out” replaced with warnings we may never get a vaccine. I think as a couple of posters have suggested - the media have swiftly moved on to the next story so have gone quiet on vaccine - the politicians want as back at work and n know we’ll be reluctant to do that if holding out for vaccine. I’m remaining hopeful for a vaccine.

The word 'faith' is entirely inappropriate in the title of a thread about vaccine development.

It/they will work - or not - regardless of what you may currently believe on the basis of headlines.

The vaccine is being worked on and there's not a lot anyone can say about it at this stage, I imagine.

Now the papers are all full of speculation about what Boris Johnson will say on Sunday. It doesn't matter that most of it is stuff coming out of the head of a journalist, if it helps sell papers, then it's newsworthy.

My understanding is that there are a lot of vaccine projects going on around the world taking a variety of approaches to the covid problem. Any or none of these might work, nobody yet knows. The media would love it if it was Oxford that succeeded but heck who cares so long as we can get protection against this disease.

It wasn't the government message that changed though. It was the media focus and hype.
