I shaved mine in the first week! felt like the perfect opportunity as always wanted to do it and would give me time to get used to it with no one else seeing it if I hated it (I don't)

HeIenaDove · 02/05/2020 23:42

My fringe is in my eyes. All the grey is through. It generally feels unmanagable. Its two months since my last appointment. Its very long and thick.

And i want the control back.

Im going to wait a bit longer just to be sure but right now i just feel like ripping it out of my head.

I've seen a few women do it on here and they all look fantastic (in a liberated and happy way!).
Absolutely go for it if you think you'd like it! It's only hair, it would grow back if you decided the cut wasn't for you.

PippaPegg · 02/05/2020 23:51

Meanwhile I'm doing the opposite (growing out v short pixie cut)

Try an undercut and then trim what's left. Less of a commitment than the whole head but still feels very liberating.

FlutterShite · 02/05/2020 23:56

I'm thinking about this too. My hair is normally fairly short and now it's grown into an embarrassing heap. I'm a bit concerned that an advert for mushrooms appeared on this page just now, as I started to type. It's almost as though the internet could see my hairstyle. I'm this close to getting the husband's clippers.

Sparrowlegs248 · 03/05/2020 00:01

I didn't realise this was a thing, but have been very tempted to shave mine. The only thing holding me back is that being a bit too fat I know it'll look shit!

HeIenaDove · 03/05/2020 00:03

Tbh im got to the stage where im past caring how it looks. I just want to be comfortable.

Mine is long thick and at boob length so it would be a big undertaking.

It's a good opportunity to avoid unreasonable judgement.

Pumpkinsarepurple · 03/05/2020 00:06

I said to my husband this afternoon that I was seriously considering shaving my head and I usually love my long hair.

It's only the fact I have a huge head and sticky out ears that held me back!

sobeyondthehills · 03/05/2020 00:07

I have shaved my head before. This time round, though, I had hair down to my stomach and in the first week, I cut it so its just above my ears.

It looks shit, but I figured it didn't really matter, as it grows so quickly. Its below my ears now and I am debating whether to cut it again, but I am waiting till Thursday

ofwarren · 03/05/2020 00:10

It's definitely tempting.
I cut my hair from bra strap to chin length about 2 weeks ago.

I get the urge to shave my head when I'm stressed. It looks like it's not uncommon.

FlutterShite · 03/05/2020 00:11

sobeyondthehills Why Thursday? Just out of interest.

titnomatani · 03/05/2020 00:11

I'm losing hair at a ridiculous rate after having an baby a few months ago. I'm so tempted to chop it all off and start again. I have very sharp features though so petrified of looking like something out of The Witches.

FlutterShite · 03/05/2020 00:15

ofwarren It's liberating. I've loved having short hair, even with the Theresa May comments it's drawn when it's grown out of hand. I've clipped it before. Now, after four weeks of Teams meetings, I think I'm going to shave it again.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 03/05/2020 00:16

Is love to do it but I'm fat and would end up looking like Cracker 😂😂😂

NewAccountForCorona · 03/05/2020 00:28

I'm tempted too. Does anyone have any suggestions for some sort of clippers I could use on myself?

KanyesVest · 03/05/2020 00:40

I'm thinking of a mohawk/undercut scenario, like the attached. Just waiting for dh's clippers to arrive. He's officially the wood man of the woods... I grew out my grey a couple of years ago so it could be quite dramatic.

*wild man, not wood man

sobeyondthehills · 03/05/2020 00:42

@FlutterShite

I am one of these annoying people who wants lockdown to be lifted and I live in hope it will be it won't so if I need to start actually seeing people, I don't want my hair to be really really bad, kind of bad is ok (which it is at the moment.) On Thursday the government might announce what they are going to do

Graphista · 03/05/2020 00:42

I've had very short hair in the past but I wouldn't do this as I have a scar from a head injury on my scalp (unnoticeable to others but I am very aware of it)

Also as my hair is naturally curly I fear growing it back again would result in a very odd lacklustre Afro type style at one point - which is what happened growing out the short style and the only way I could manage it was a shit ton of gel!

It's long at the moment and I cut a little off today, may cut a few more inches tomorrow as it's still too long for comfort but it's better to do a little at a time

Totally up to you @HeIenaDove but if your hair is very long at the moment it is quite a drastic change and so much of who we think we are is tied into our hair.

My mothers aghast I have long hair over 40!

40somethingJBJ · 03/05/2020 00:59

I’ve not had my hair cut in over a year, so not in any rush to get to a hairdressers, but I keep getting an urge to lop a load off and dye it purple! I wouldn’t shave it all off as I’ve got a big scar from my head injury, but I’m fancying it shorter.

Clevererthanyou · 03/05/2020 01:06

I have alopecia that represents as male pattern baldness and I honestly look like a boiled Phil Mitchell (happy to post a pic) but I shaved it off and I’m happier than I’ve been in months Grin I did however buy a wig so I’ll match my ID if I return to work Grin

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/05/2020 01:19

I've been seriously considering it . Didn't realise so many people felt the same

bythehairsonmychinichinchin · 03/05/2020 01:21

Shaving it off may make you feel like you’re liberating yourself and in control now, however from experience of shaving my hair (different circumstances admittedly due having chemo....) just wait until it starts growing and needs regular trimming when you’re no longer happy rocking the sigourney weaver shaved hair look.

shaved and very short hair is also a bastard to keep up with colouring if you’re going grey, although to start with it’s fun experimenting with having different colours. Mine took about 2 years to get back to shoulder length, the phase from chin to shoulder length took ages
