Anyone awaiting a covid 19 test result? Or anyone had their result recently?

Just needing a bit of solidarity as the anxiety of waiting takes hold.

I had a sore throat Thursday evening and a headache Friday. By Friday night I had a bit of a tickle in my throat, and had occasionally coughed. By Saturday night it was clear that the cough was persistant. So first thing Sunday I tried to arrange a test through the new site for key workers. Useless. I could get all the way through the process, getting a verification code so I could go and select an available time and date but it would crash when you clicked confirm. So I rang my employer. Within an hour I'd been tested. Super efficiency!

Test takes 2-5 days to come back, although those colleagues who have had them done previously got their results on the 2nd morning. So for me, that is looking like tomorrow morning.

I live in a small house with 3 kids. It has been impossible to isolate here. I'm so stressed. I don't feel particularly ill, but I do have a persistant dry cough.

Anyone care to share their feelings through this process? Anyone else waiting for a result? Anyone got a negative result with symptoms? I just flail between thinking it will definitely be fine, to what if it isn't? I had over 30 contacts last Thursday alone. That is typical of a day for me at the moment when working. Three days in work last week, and three days the week before. That's around 180 people to have caught something from. Plus having to do food shopping.

I tested positive. I didn’t alter the way I dealt with it whether the rest result was positive or negative. You still maintain isolation as far as possible and keep up the hand washing etc. No one else in the house got it. Symptoms were mild and completely gone in a couple of weeks.

I also know plenty who have tested negative and so presumably just had a cold/ hay fever

.Obviously if things get worse you seek medical input, but that’s regardless of if it’s Covid or not.

Had my test today at 1pm. Husband was tested too. I've been looking after elderly people with covid.

Sore throat, itchy eyes, tight chest, cough and headache. I don't suffer from hayfever.

3 more staff have tested positive, all got their results in 48 hours.

Had mine yesterday afternoon, awaiting results. Driving myself mad trying to second guess it. Have been avoiding DH and DC and would really like to know one way or another now.

I feel too well for it to be anything. But terrified I will get worse.

It doesn't help that 4 of our Trusts staff died this week, one of them was a fellow midwife like me. It is really playing on my stress level.

@ThisMustBeMyDream mainly gastric, but headache and sore throat too and awful fatigue. Doctor on the phone said they'd had a few cases with lots of gastric symptoms. I'm still assuming it's not covid but I'm a teacher and I need to know if I can be put back on the rota for work.

Quick question - the lady who tested me told me to open the link when I got home. I thought I'd have to scan the barcode but it only asked for my DOB and then said the test had already been carried out. Was that the same for you? Worried I haven't registered properly!

DH and I were tested Sunday afternoon. They said it would be 24 - 48 hours for the results so I'm assuming today. It will be a text I think I'm not entirely sure.

King Thistle - we had the same issue. Rang the helpline and they said it meant it had all been registered and just to wait for results.

It is a text, yes. A few in my work have had them.

I was tested yesterday morning. Hoping for a result today but they said it could take up to 3 days.
I feel fine in myself I'm just frustrated because I can't walk the dog, he's bouncing off the walls!

We got tested last night at a drive in centre.
DH has a lot of symptoms, fuzzy head, cough, hot and cold, sore chest, breathlessness, various aches. He is having daily calls from a doctor.
I have a cough and a bit of a tight wheezy chest but I’ve had it on and off for months and have hay fever.
Seems like we have it but I’m worried about the tests being negative, as the swabs were self administered and the false neg rate can apparently be up to 30%.
The doctor advised DH to keep upright and active, don’t lie in bed unless he’s incapacitated basically due to the pneumonia risk. He has high BP anyway and had a cardiac event last August ( his blood had heart attack enzymes but his angio and scan showed zero damage to his arteries or heart muscle) he’s on statins, aspirin, ramipril and a couple of other things !

My test was negative!!!!! Overjoyed. My kids just had the biggest cuddle of their lives.

My test didn't require me to do anything on my phone as such. My work took my name, dob and phone number. Confirmed them at test centre. That was it.

I'm assuming we can all go out now when needed? I'm not back in work til sunday, which is good as it means the cough will have hopefully settled more. No one wants a coughing midwife at the moment even if they tested negative.

Check your local rules on this. Testing isn’t 100% and where I am anyone with any symptoms regardless of test result self isolated for 14 days.

Key workers are an exception but have to have two negative tests over a number of days before leaving the house or returning to work.

My SIL was tested last week (front line health worker) and was positive. Her only symptoms were no taste or smell - that was it, no cough or fever.

@IHeartKingThistle I had assumed the opposite. A positive result would be quicker. You would need to give it the full time to be sure of a neg result? I'm not sure. Just my musings.

No guidance from our trust @Rebootingagain. Just contact line manager. I did, and she said she would see me next monday for my RTW. I'm not in til sunday, and she isn't in on the weekend. That was it.

Also, I won't lie, the thought of another test fills me with dread. It was awful. My nose and thoat are still in considerable discomfort from the last test 😭.

Interesting how different jurisdictions are handling this.

Here, if you have a test then you stay home for 14 days regardless of result.

People have gone to prison for not doing so as they have a record of everyone who has been tested.

@iheartkingthistle sorry to jump on this but when you say your symptoms were mainly gastric, would you mind sharing the symptoms.
I've had a sore pain for at least 4 weeks. Upper abdo pain. I dont have any other symptoms at all apart from a mild cough which I always have due to allergies. I assumed it was stress related as my anxiety is sky high.

@Plump82 diarrhoea for days and some vomiting and nausea. Shakes and rapid heartbeat. Headache, earache, congestion, heavy chest, sore throat, bit of a cough. Fatigue. This is day 13 and just starting to feel OK.

If it is covid it's a bloody weird version tbh. Got to assume it isn't but still quite nervously waiting for results.

Hope you're OK. I have learned over the last 13 days that worrying is not productive, but I know stopping worrying is easier said than done!

I tested negative last week (healthcare worker, working with covid pts) and have without a doubt had/have covid, my husband has now got symptoms.

Sore throat, dry persistent cough, lung pain, extreme shortness of breath and loss of smell and taste. (Never had temp)
My husband was taken into A&E yesterday as he had chest pain (GP sent him), his heart wa fine, think it is lung inflammation.
The staff were actually quite dismissive about negative results if the symptoms are so obvious.
Due to errors swabbing, the timing scale effectiveness and false negatives.
They didn't swab him as he wasn't admitted.

Negative!

If my test is negative I will still assume infection and act accordingly.
30% false negative rate is neither use nor ornament.
