Brought tears to my eyes...

OP posts:

???

LIZS · 27/04/2020 17:28

Matt Hancock looked very uncomfortable reading it out.

bluemarie87 · 27/04/2020 17:29

He struggled to read it though didn't he. I'm glad she asked what many people are wanting to know though!

EmpressLangClegInChair · 27/04/2020 17:29

What did she say?

LIZS · 27/04/2020 17:30

Wonder if she will become an unwitting icon like Brenda from Bristol?

Chocolatear · 27/04/2020 17:30

15,000 people submitted questions. They chose one from Lynne. Surely there was a slightly more probing question that could have been chosen?

LIZS · 27/04/2020 17:32

It was a "member of the public" question at the daily briefing - if after the five conditions were met when could she hug her grandchildren again.

Daffodil101 · 27/04/2020 17:34

I think that Lynne could have worked out that answer for herself, given the response she received.

Lynne didn’t give enough info about her own circumstances.

They should have chosen Brenda from Barnsley.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 27/04/2020 17:34

Thanks LIZS.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2020 17:34

It feels a bit shoehorned in to me however
I was sad that she can't see her grandkids. I hope she took something from the answers they gave. It was a bit awkward , but Matt Hancock looks a bit better today : less stressed. All of this is so hard for people though.

AnyFucker · 27/04/2020 17:36

I missed the public question but I did very much enjoy Matt Hancock shutting that fucking verbally incontinent bore Robert Peston right down Smile

Littlemiss74 · 27/04/2020 17:37

Sooo awkward! And unclear answer from Chris Whitty. The whole vulnerable/shielding thing is unclear and is causing much confusion.

Medievalist · 27/04/2020 17:39

Oh yes!!! His languid, self important, rambling manner is like nails down a blackboard - imo

Delatron · 27/04/2020 17:39

Matt seems better. He does get a bit emotional at times bless him.

I thought they’d choose a better question to be honest. Nobody can answer that one Lynn.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2020 17:40

M H seems so much more positive today.
I wonder if Boris being back has given them a boost?

Delatron · 27/04/2020 17:41

He does seem more positive and in control. Maybe he’s had a good rest.

Littlemiss74 · 27/04/2020 17:41

😂 bye Peston, nice one Matt!

BakedCam · 27/04/2020 17:42

I too think MH is far more confident today.

Lynne from.Skipton. God love her.

I think we should have a complete daily briefing with the public only, at least once a week.

GoldenOmber · 27/04/2020 17:43

They made a hash of answering that one. Should have gone for reassurance: “we can’t yet say exactly, it will depend upon your personal situation and what you choose to do, but we can promise you that you WILL get to hug your grandchildren again and it will be soon even if it feels a long time right now, and we are working flat out to get us all there as soon as possible.”

If that answer by Whitty gets heard by the nation’s grandmothers as “it’s going to be ages and ages before we let you hug your grandchildren, you won’t even get to hug them after lockdown’s lifted” a lot of people will just think “oh to hell with this” and start breaking the social distancing rules now. You’ve got to give people some hope if you want them to stick with things in the meantime!

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2020 17:43

I don't mind M H to be honest , I think he does care. Such a tough job.
I don't envy any of them.

Puddlesplasher · 27/04/2020 17:45

Can't bear Peston, loved Matt's "No".

loobyloo1234 · 27/04/2020 17:47

MH answering Peston with one word has made my day

I always like Whitty but he’s very negative all of the time. He gives me no hope. Maybe that’s the point. To keep us realistic

Delatron · 27/04/2020 17:48

Yes I love Whitty’s honesty but he’s not giving any hope about anything relaxing any time soon. I know that’s the point but still frustrating.

Littlemiss74 · 27/04/2020 17:50

I like MH, i think he is a genuine guy, family man who has an extremely hard job right now. The pressure must be intense and no-one has all the answers do they as thing is new. He is working hard and came straight back to work after having the virus, can’t have been easy.

I think he hates doing the briefings and imagine he can’t stand the idiot journalists and their repetitive questions. At times it looks like he is thinking oh do go away!

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2020 17:55

I much prefer him to Dominic Raab.
He seems more human somehow less slick.
I know they have messed up but who wouldn't?
