I think it will be interesting to have him back and see what he has to say after experiencing Covid himself.. will he extend lockdown?

It doesn't help that at every daily conference all the press ask exactly the same questions each time about when they are going to lift lock down & when are they going to open schools. Same questions= same answers every day & repeat.

Waffle waffle lies waffle waffle in Latin waffle lies

pfrench · 27/04/2020 09:04

Hopefully he'll apologise to the NHS for not following his own guidance, and taking up an ICU bed that someone else could have had.

collateralmadamage · 27/04/2020 09:04

Well, that'll fucking learn me not to listen to social distancing/lockdown advice"
Learn me?

Slang used around these parts.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 27/04/2020 09:20

Absolutely brilliant speech by Boris.

middleager · 27/04/2020 09:21

Bingo!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 27/04/2020 09:24

So yea, you called it. He said fuck all

He did didnt he

Sometimes I listen to some political speeches (especially if a question has been asked) and i think ‘I must have missed something’

Ive given up rewinding though cos usually its not my attention span thats The issue

Hopefully there will be clarity in the next few days

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 27/04/2020 09:28

Bollocks. Are you hard of hearing?

He said that "in the coming days" the Govt will take decisions as to what happens next and that he will be reaching out to businesses and across party lines and be as transparent as possible to gain concensus on what happens next.

If you think that is saying nothing then you need to go back and complete your education.

CalleighDoodle · 27/04/2020 09:29

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite

Youre so funny.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2020 09:31

He did say quite a lot. I heard it as ' businesses need to get off my back we're doing our best'
I'm no fan at all, but obviously there are many people calling for this to be lifted. They need a bit more time. That's what I heard.
It's a balancing act

Bingo!

Also he didn’t shield the NHS did he? He ignored govt guidance and ended up in ICU. Then went off to his second home.

Glad he survived, but he’s still a massive weasel.

middleager · 27/04/2020 09:33

No accountability. At least Macron apologised for failing the people.

CalleighDoodle · 27/04/2020 09:34

There was absolutely nothing specific said. Boris said nothing that wasnt said on here last night / this morning. Mumsnet could have written the exact same speech. The pm should be saying and doing more than random women on mumsnet.

coffeecoffeegoose · 27/04/2020 09:45

Nothing about Sombreros at least

RainMustFall · 27/04/2020 09:48

Well now we know - I thought the speech was excellent and so pleased he's looking better.

BatsEars · 27/04/2020 09:50

Excellent speech.

Great to have him back

BatsEars · 27/04/2020 09:53

Posters on here make me laugh with their bitter comments.

I can't bear to even contemplate the horror show that could have been at the helm right now and it doesn't bear to even think about.

Thankfully the majority saw sense back in December.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 27/04/2020 09:57

Oh my god Grin

Not bitter and still not a labour voter

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 27/04/2020 09:58

Why don’t people get that you can vote for a party and not like some of the politicians in it

Or you can vote for A party and be disappointed in how they deal with something

Its not difficult

(Well it obviously is for some people)

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 27/04/2020 10:07

Jesus, the guff of some of the tories on here.
Can you just not see what our Great Survivor and his party have done to this country?
He said exactly what I would have expected him to say. Piffle Paffle Wiffle Waffle.

TokyoSushi · 27/04/2020 10:12

Exactly as we thought, not saying much but all very jolly, we're with you, it's going to be fine.

Predictable, but also nice to know that we're back to business as usual in terms of government, when decisions need to be made, they can at least be made now.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 27/04/2020 10:13

"but begin gradually to refine the economic and social restrictions and one by one to fire up the engines of this vast UK economy"
He has actually said quite a lot here:

  1. It's going to be a gradual lifting of restrictions.
  2. One by one indicates it is going to be specific parts of the economy at a time.

This is more than has actually been stated previously in daily briefings. The phrase "one by one" was immediately picked up by the political commentator as the PM giving an indication of how restrictions will be lifted.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 27/04/2020 10:21

I agree tokyo
