Would you go back on holiday straight away?

We had a holiday to Walt Disney World In Florida booked for this April. Obviously we have got a refund on the holiday. We have told our children that we will rebook and go as soon as we can fly there and Walt Disney World has reopened. According to my brother, this is irresponsible of us and extremely dangerous! Ffs, how is it irresponsible?

It is not irresponsible. It is a question of risk appetite. I wouldn’t for instance but I am in a vulnerable category and remain freaked out about the potential long term effects of this pandemic for me. However, when travel restrictions are lifted it is a matter of individual choice as to whether people resume normal holidaying surely?

Maybe not straight away, but I would. I’d just be keeping a close eye on things in both countries. The last thing you’d want is being quarantined abroad and ruining it.

I wouldn't, for me personally foreign travel &/or aeroplanes & large public events are the things I would stay away from for the longest.

I don’t think irresponsible but definitely very confident to go as soon as possible! I would love a holiday but going to wait until it feels as safe as possible.

I think it will depend on the situation at the point they reopen. We go to Disney every year and some of the restrictions they may have in place when they first reopen would definitely put me off as it would change the whole experience eg no shows, no fireworks, no character meets, sone rides closed etc etc. This would all drastically change the Disney experience and I would prefer to wait until things are a bit more back to normal.

I wouldn’t be concerned particularly about the travel or actually being at Disney because 1. I’m not high risk and 2. Disney has always been incredibly clean and I trust then to reopen when they feel it was safe, my concern would be about the actual experience you’d be getting especially if it’s a once in a life time trip.

Lifting restrictions isn't going to miraculously rid the world of the virus, there will still be risks of another surge/outbreak for years.

Leisure travel starting back up would bring a significant risk of a new surge. For me, I'd avoid overseas travel in those early months, not because I'm worried about getting the virus but because if there was another big outbreak we could see restrictions reintroduced and people quarantined in hotels or unable to travel home, like we did at the start of this.

We have a holiday booked to Florida in September but DH read a report saying Disneyland not reopening until January and the others will follow suit.

We’ll definitely book for next year, probably the September again. Seems so long away.

We've had to cancel a Disney holiday too. We also lost a holiday last October in the Thomas Cook collapse, and a cottage break for Easter.

I cannot WAIT for another holiday. I know Disney has its critics but after this is over we'll all need a dose of the sunshine and overwhelming positivity which it offers.

According to Tui, I am still going on mine over May half term. The hotel chain is closed, the flights aren't operating but somehow they cannot confirm that it will not go ahead.

We go to disneyworld regularly and I would echo what the PP said. Unless this is something you can afford to do more than once then I would wait until it is fully reopened with no restrictions. Disney is a completely different experience if you do everything eg character meals, shows etc. If nothing else the magic kingdom evening bus queue will stretch all the way to epcot with 2m distancing in place, heaven help anyone trying to get out of animal kingdom.

Personally though we won't be travelling as much in the future anyway and will be doing more UK holidays (although we are in the fortunate position of having done lots of overseas travel in the past). I think it will be more expensive to travel given what has happened to the airline industry and rightly so IMO. We can't keep travelling like we do given the impact on the environment.

I would be cautious TBH. You need to see what kind of travel cover you will be offered ,and with DC as well it could be a worry for you all.I am waiting until next year to visit our friends in US and that was my "big " birthday too! (As it stands if no restaurants open ,will deck out the dining room with french flags /tablecloth and tell everyone we are really at Cafe Rouge!) Friend of ours to cook!

As far as our latest email from Jet 2 is concerned we are going to Mallorca at the end of June. We don't think it very likely they will even be open for business.

To be honest, I dont think I will be going to restaurants straight away let alone a long haul flight, but I am in a vulnerable (not shielding) group. I scoffed at the idea that we would be too frightened to go our after lockdown then thought about it a bit and I actually am a bit nervous.

Depends on the holiday - I would be more wary about a Disney type thing than, for example, renting a property in Spain. Apart from the travel, the latter doesn't necessarily have much more risk than staying at home. The former will inevitably involve a lot of people from all over the place gathering in the same spot.

I would book florida for same sort of time next year tbh. Take the kids somewhere 'last minute more local. Perhaps France or even stay in the UK. Keeps it more realistic if its 12 months+ time to actually happen.

Yes - also we think we have had it so are a bit more gung ho.

We have some Easyjet flights we need to change and end of August booked off. Torn between changing to fly to Bristol- which I'm about 60% thinking will be running by then - or holding off to see if we can go anywhere abroad, don't really care where. Think I should go ahead and change to Bristol just now Wink.

Nope! I doubt people will be able to afford the flights in future. They’ll be less planes flying and high cost especially for families.

I can’t see people rushing to fly either reducing the need further and increasing the price.

I also don’t see people booking so far in advance the was the industry has treated their customers with slow refunds, or no refunds.
