I'm so upset - I've been Facebook shamed!

We don't have much outside space, so I took my 3 youngest (8, 6 and 5) to the park to ride their bikes. The park is about a 10 minute walk away but we had to drive because my 8 year old has a broken leg (in a cast). We parked in the park's car park. There was no one there apart from us. The kids started biking on the grass but then they decided to bike round the carpark - smooth tarmac, so great to get their confidence up.

Anyway, after 30 mins we put the bikes back in the car and drove home.

I have just seen on our local Facebook group that someone has posted a short video clip of us (filmed from a distance, assuming from someone's bedroom window) and said 'Due to covidiots like his continuing to drive to our village to use our park, we are locking the gates to discourage it. If anyone knows these people please let them know we've got them on film!'.

I am mortified. The post has had about 20 likes, but a few people are saying that parks are open so they don't see the problem and that the government have specifically told councils to leave parks open.

Did I do anything wrong? I'm really shy so don't plan on responding to the post but I only drove there due to my daughter's broken leg, and secondly, we didn't see anyone and thirdly, now the park is not accessable to us because there is nowhere safe to park near it. We have now lost the use of our local park Sad I just don't understand

I would be angry that I was filmed and would be reporting to Facebook to take down the video. You didn't do anything wrong.

TubereuseNordlys · 21/04/2020 19:33

That's awful!

If you're too shy to respond, do you have a friend who would?

sleepyhead · 21/04/2020 19:34

What a complete bell-end. Ignore op - this really has brought out the curtain twitcher in some people.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/04/2020 19:34

whatsthis

Its very distressing for you but try to ignore it

Some People are being right twats at the moment

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/04/2020 19:35

Oooh yes and do what pyjamas said

Report it to Facebook and see if they will remove it

bulliedintonamechange · 21/04/2020 19:35

That's fucking disgusting that they filmed you. People are doing this slot and they're always worse behaved than whoever they're filming! So many nosey arseholes! Sorry for my language but I am so sick of seeing things like this. Please please report them to Facebook for uploading you without permission

BabyLlamaZen · 21/04/2020 19:35

Is it a public park? Seems very unfair of them op, sorry.

AmelieTaylor · 21/04/2020 19:36

You've done nothing wrong!!

You should reply!!!

You're allowed to drive a short distance to exercise!

MrsKypp · 21/04/2020 19:36

FB need to do something about data protection. Would they take it down if you asked them?

Ignoring it could be another tactic. Rise above it? Difficult I know, but they're more likely to give up if you ignore them.

Whatsthis1515 · 21/04/2020 19:36

Yes I have people that would respond but I don't want ww3 starting over it. I am so gutted that their assumptions about us driving there has caused the car park to shut... Not least because we now can't go to it!

OP posts:
AmelieTaylor · 21/04/2020 19:36

Also ask Facebook to remove the video that you didn't give permission to have put there!

Wanderlust21 · 21/04/2020 19:37

They're a prick op, take no notice. You are allowed to go to parks. If they are busy then of course exercise common sense and go home. This one however, wasnt.

I'd be telling them that.

BirdieFriendReturns · 21/04/2020 19:37

The people who Facebook shamed you are probably on Mumsnet...

PegasusReturns · 21/04/2020 19:37

I know you say you don’t want to respond but I’d send a short post:

“yes you were filming me and my DC. I live in the village less than 1/2 km from the park but since my Daughter has a broken leg I drove. I’m not sure why that would upset you so much?”

They’ll delete the post very quickly.

Kitcat47 · 21/04/2020 19:37

I hate this. People taking pics and filming. Why dont they just mind their own business. Hope your ok xxx

Whatsthis1515 · 21/04/2020 19:37

Thank you so much! I will now go and report it to FB ! I forgot I could do that !

I'm so upset - I've been Facebook shamed!
Boredinthehouse · 21/04/2020 19:39

This is going to become more common :(

It’s fake news and the poster who shared the video is spreading hate. I’d send them a private message, explain and ask them to take it down.

You’ve down nothing wrong Flowers

Schuyler · 21/04/2020 19:39

Ugh what utter shits. I’m sorry. You did nothing wrong.

itsgettingweird · 21/04/2020 19:39

I would reply to say that before shaming someone check the facts.

For a start you are allowed to drive short distances if needed to exercise. You heave that need due to one child having a broken leg.

Then I'd ask them how they think you being in a car park where no one else is I'd spreading the virus to anyone?

Then I'd tell them you are going to report their post to the police as harassment.

OliviaPopeRules · 21/04/2020 19:39

but have they closed the park or is it just some idiot saying they will? Surely it is a council decision.
Also you did nothing wrong, the plastic stasi are fucking idiots with nothing better to do.

userxx · 21/04/2020 19:40

Fucking hell, this virus has shown me that we live amongst utter twats. Op, you did nothing wrong.

Boredinthehouse · 21/04/2020 19:40

Exactly what @PegasusReturns says. Let us know how it goes OP

Elouera · 21/04/2020 19:40

Have they actually shut the park? Surely that is down to the council and not a busy body? I too would report it to facebook, especially as it shows video of your kids!

Out of interest, what did your daughter with the broken leg do while the other kids were riding their bikes? Is there video of her using crutches to get to a seat?

CaryStoppins · 21/04/2020 19:41

Just respond politely to the message and say you live in the village but had to drive as your daughter has a broken leg.
And that you hope they will reconsider locking the car park as you won't be able to access the park otherwise.

You'll probably get an apology. It will make the original poster look like a dick, not you.
