Why are more men dying?

I read this earlier. They’re dying at twice the rate of women. Why would this be?

The idea that men don't do social distancing/ hygiene so well doesn't work I don't think as most men mix with women in households etc so they would pass it on

My bet is

Higher levels of smoking, obesity, heart disease, diabetes etc amongst men
And possibly some genetic thing as well

Generally the same reasons we live longer than men

I'm not sure that the thing about men not going to doc/ leaving it later will be such a factor with this, don't know obv

The real issue here is that man and women are different. No matter how much nail varnish they wear

I'm sorry. But this made me laugh.

Flu being worse for men than women is a jokey myth thing isn't it?

Dunno.

Just thought, in sport generally men do better as they are bigger stronger etc but when it comes to massive endurance women start to win. Something in there? Women are generally smaller, if it's to do with breathing, and we take more care of ourselves as a group, is it easier for our smaller bodies to get enough air in and pump it around?

Just some random thoughts probably rubbish!

A load of factors
Men have weaker immune systems
Men have more threats from lifestyle choices.
Women seem to take better need of social distancing and hygiene guidelines.

I don't mean any of that to be sexist.

Heed not need

AutumnCrow · 16/04/2020 21:59

My GP surgery recently replaced 'sex' with 'gender' on its online forms. I thought, now is really not the time.

Most likely due to women having slightly better immune systems than men. Changes in the ACE receptors are more likely to account for the unexpected cases, like the health young dying.
