Just that really, was told I was furloughed, all good
Called today they can’t afford to pay the wages and wait for the money back, they don’t think the business can bounce back so that’s it
All staff redundant, company gone to administrators, expect £1400 redundancy
It’s shit, just wanted to let it out really :(

Flowers It's small consolation but you can probably claim new-style Jobseekers Allowance (JSA), and possibly Universal Credit depending on circumstances, income and savings. Hope you can find something else as soon as things are more normal. Meanwhile here's some Gin and chocolate.
Mummiepig · 15/04/2020 21:03

Thanks had lots of chocolate today!
Can’t claim UC too much savings (luckily) but have claimed JSA
I’ll miss the actual work and colleagues more than the money

Feel for you. I have been made redundant twice and it’s tough.

BammBamm · 15/04/2020 21:04

Sorry to hear that, it's such a shitty time Thanks

livingthegoodlife · 15/04/2020 21:05

Sorry to hear that. It's horrible.

I too will be made redundant when the furlough money runs out.

It's shit.

Mummiepig · 15/04/2020 21:06

I hate Coronavirus so much :(

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 15/04/2020 21:06

That’s shit, I’m so sorry Flowers

Mummiepig · 15/04/2020 21:06

At least I’m alive and my family are well, take the positives

OP posts:
Mummiepig · 15/04/2020 21:07

I’m more annoyed I didn’t get the benefit of furlough
I knew the company would struggle but I thought 2 months furlough then back to work for a bit
But no, it’s over, from today

OP posts:
AgeLikeWine · 15/04/2020 21:16

That’s a shit situation, OP.

I was made redundant last year, and I know it’s not a pleasant experience even in normal times.

This will end, and employers will be hiring again and good people will always find opportunities. Until then, good luck and try to make the best of a bad job.

Mummiepig · 15/04/2020 21:17

Thanks everyone

justanotherneighinparadise · 15/04/2020 21:22

So sorry OP 😔

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 15/04/2020 21:24

How awful, I’m sorry OP. It doesn’t help you but the government have to get this scheme up and running to stop this happening to more businesses.

Mummiepig · 15/04/2020 21:26

I couldn’t really take it all in but they can’t wait for the furlough scheme, bank won’t lend, can’t claim grant/loan(?) from government as value too high over 51k or something I don’t really understand but yeah no help from the government

OP posts:
Dalrympy · 15/04/2020 21:27

I'm senior management and if we don't get the money from the government by the end of April, we probably won't be able to pay the furlough wages. It's looking very tight.

Lots promised but nothing materialised yet. Also waiting for the rates grant and approval for a government backed loan.

Sorry this has happened to you. I think you'll be amongst many.

Dalrympy · 15/04/2020 21:28

Rate too high means that they probably don't qualify for the business rate grant and exemption.

Mummiepig · 15/04/2020 21:30

The initial government package looked amazing, but didn’t materialise for my company :(

OP posts:
LizzyButton · 15/04/2020 21:34

A lot of firms we do business with are close to going to the wall. The redundancies and dashed dreams are going to cast a shadow for years.

NiteFlights · 15/04/2020 21:40

I’m sorry. That’s really shit. Flowers

Recoverandthrive · 16/04/2020 00:06

Hi op sorry to hear that. I'm in a similar position to you in that can't claim UC. I also don't know if I will be furloughed as an agency worker there's no package made available by the govt as yet. Does anyone know if I can claim Jsa in the mean time as we may be several weeks away from finding out if we are covered and there's a high risk at the end of it we won't be.

BigChocFrenzy · 16/04/2020 01:04

Sorry to hear your bad news, Mummiepig 💐
It's shit;

I won't insult your intelligence with piffle about a sunny upside
but the economy should pick up again once lockdown ends,

So brush up your CV for then and in the meantime concentrate on looking after yoursellf

Livingthegoodlife 💐 I hope lockdown can end before you and so many others are also made redundant,
or that the government extends the scheme

pocketem · 16/04/2020 05:26

Sorry OP. Sheer incompetence from the government to set the scheme up this way, so many companies do not have the cashflow to able to pay wages without any revenue and then claim the furlough pay back from the government at a later date. Companies needed the support now. Sadly this experience is probably being repeated all over the country

KatherineJaneway · 16/04/2020 05:42

Sorry to hear that Flowers I've been made redundant before, awful feeling.

userxx · 16/04/2020 05:49

@pocketem How should the government have done it?

pocketem · 16/04/2020 06:07

Other countries have done direct payments to employees (through PAYE refunds or access to the benefits system) instead of the convoluted system of asking companies to pay the employees and then claim it back from the government.
