Will they tell us anything tomorrow?

I know lockdown is going to carry on I mean will they announce tomorrow how much longer until they review again or is it ongoing for now until further notice?

Sorry haven’t seen anything on news about this

Did anyone actually think it would be lifted after 3 weeks considering the levels & those of other countries? I believe the law states they have to review every 3 weeks so this will be the next review & I can't see the lockdown being much less than another 3 weeks.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 12/04/2020 23:03

the lockdown announcement (guidance) was made on a Monday evening, but the legislation didn't come into effect until the Thursday of that week and that's the bit that really matters

Parker231 · 12/04/2020 23:08

I think they will announce another three weeks and review it again then. And then announce a further extension with tougher controls if some are still not staying at home.

VeganCow · 12/04/2020 23:25

I saw the official government paper that says review must be published on or before 16th

TudorRoses · 12/04/2020 23:28

When they brought the legislation in, they didn't know that the Prime Minister was going to end up in intensive care.

This crisis isn't going to go away any time soon, and a wait of a couple more days will make no difference in the long run. I reckon they will probably say that lockdown has to continue for now, and the situation will be reviewed again in another two or three weeks.

googlepoodle · 12/04/2020 23:32

It’s not that anyone thinks it will be lifted but that Boris clearly said in his speech that it would be 3 weeks and then reviewed and it can Into effect that night. So there needs to be another public announcement tomorrow.

HoneyBee03 · 12/04/2020 23:44

I absolutely thought it ended tomorrow unless told otherwise. Obviously this won't be happening but I was surprised to not have heard an official update by now.

Wingedharpy · 12/04/2020 23:44

Considering that those of us in the shielding group were advised from the outset that we have to stay in "for a period of at least 12 weeks", which takes us up to mid June, or thereabouts, I don't think anyone else will be being released back into the wild anytime soon.

"How long?", in relation to all this is a bit of a how long is a piece of string question.

No-one can put a definite timescale on it as it just depends how things progress.

Parker231 · 12/04/2020 23:45

Doesn’t need to be any announcement until Thursday - three weeks since the legislation came into force.

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations 2020 were introduced in England on Thursday March 26 at 1pm.

Similar versions of the law were enacted in Wales at 4pm and in Scotland at 7.15pm on the same day, as well as at 11pm on Saturday in Northern Ireland.

HoffiCoffi13 · 13/04/2020 07:38

Why did you think that HoneyBee03? Don’t mean this to sound sarky but do you read the news? The government have been saying all week that it’s too soon to even consider lifting any restrictions and we must keep doing what we’re doing.
I don’t think there was ever any implication that lockdown would end in three weeks... maybe it’s just a case of how people interpret the language they used. They only ever said that it will be ‘reviewed’ after three weeks (which is from Thursday), which to me means they will look at the numbers, decide what it working and what isn’t, and then make a decision on whether to tighten restrictions, loosen them or keep them the same.
France, Italy, Spain etc have all extended their lockdowns more than once so I don’t think there was ever any chance that ours would be for just 3 weeks.

corabel · 13/04/2020 07:43

I think most people probably don't know about the legislation and just remember that it was on Monday night that the PM announced the 'lockdown' and said that it would be reviewed after 3 weeks. So they may expect some sort of announcement today.

I always assumed that we're under these restrictions until told otherwise and never expected them to only be for 3 weeks. But I'm not sure that everyone does realise that - one of my neighbours said to me at the weekend that she couldn't wait for Tuesday. I didn't know what she was talking about but she said that she would be able to go and visit her friend for coffee. I think she may think that the 3 weeks are up today unless told otherwise.

ACoverIsNotABook · 13/04/2020 07:43

@Hippywannabe where did you hear that? I’m not sure how they can release data on deaths in the community and care homes due to Covid-19 as they are refusing to test anyone who isn’t admitted to hospital.

Snog · 13/04/2020 07:44

We need a clear announcement today on this as there is a lot of confusion and it's the job of the government to communicate clearly and effectively.

ChipsAreLife · 13/04/2020 07:45

I'm certain Dominic Raab said last week they would review late this week the lockdown. So they've already addressed it?

HoffiCoffi13 · 13/04/2020 07:47

There has been an announcement... Dominic Raab said it was too early to think about lifting restrictions, they would be reviewed later this week, and we need to continue doing what we’re doing.
Or do you mean a specific press conference to address this one point?

HoffiCoffi13 · 13/04/2020 07:50

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52266314

Pretty clear here that nothing has changed and it will be reviewed on Thursday.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/04/2020 08:16

We all know that lockdown will carry on. But there are a lot of arrogant people out there who think that the government are trying to control us with the lockdown and unless they're told they must carry on staying inside they will assume that come Tuesday they can do as they please.

lubeybooby · 13/04/2020 08:27

I think they are relying on us to realise and use our own brains to come extent

Other countries lockdowns have been 2 months plus, many still ongoing. We need to expect this here too

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/04/2020 10:13

I think most of us realise the lockdown will continue, but I agree with pp that the Monday announcement and “three weeks” will go hand in hand for a lot of people. I know there are bigger fish to fry, but I think making an announcement today would be smart - even if it’s just a holding statement to say there will be an announcement on Thursday.

CookPassBabtridge · 13/04/2020 18:12

I think people underestimate how thick a lot of our population is. They need a clear announcement that it's not ending after 3 weeks.

HoffiCoffi13 · 13/04/2020 19:05

I think people underestimate how thick a lot of our population is

I’m definitely starting to realise!

Redwinestillfine · 14/04/2020 08:59

I think that's a bit harsh. This is impacting people in lots of different ways and some need to cling onto the hope things might change. Yes most people read between the lines but some will not for a variety of reasons.

HoffiCoffi13 · 14/04/2020 09:06

Yes you’re right, it probably was a bit harsh.
However I’m not sure it’s just ‘reading between the lines’, but also ‘reading the news’. Dominic Raab said explicitly on a couple of occasions that it was too early to think about lifting any restrictions, and that measures would be reviewed later this week but thinks were unlikely to change.

EggBaconBeans · 14/04/2020 09:11

Snog

Do you not watch the daily coronavirus update by the government and scientific and medical advisers then?

They can't be any clearer..

Or are you following the left rhetoric and distorting the information??

Parker231 · 14/04/2020 13:13

I’m not sure what has been missing from the daily updates. There is lots of criticism regarding how the government have handled PPE, ventilators and nursing homes but the speed at which huge new hospitals have been built is amazing. As has been said daily in the updates, we haven’t reached the peak yet so not sure what else they could say.
