Will they tell us anything tomorrow?

I know lockdown is going to carry on I mean will they announce tomorrow how much longer until they review again or is it ongoing for now until further notice?

Sorry haven’t seen anything on news about this

I doubt it. Haven't we already been told it will be the end of this week before a decision will be made? It will depend upon the rates of infection and deaths which cannot be accurately predicted.
It isn't even 3 weeks until tomorrow night anyway.

HoffiCoffi13 · 12/04/2020 20:59

I don’t think they’re meeting until later in the week to discuss it are they? Very unlikely we’ll have new information tomorrow. They’ve said it’s too early to change anything.

YogaLite · 12/04/2020 21:00

I don't understand why they are now waiting till Thursday when originally they said the lockdown was till 12th.

twinnywinny14 · 12/04/2020 21:00

It’s 3 wks tomorrow night since Boris made his announcement. I’m sure his week they have said there will be the COBR meeting at the end of this week and then I expect we will find out more

googlepoodle · 12/04/2020 21:02

I think they need to be clearer. Boris definitely said that it would be reviewed in 3 weeks so tomorrow there needs to be a broadcast even if just to say it is carrying on

HoffiCoffi13 · 12/04/2020 21:02

They didn’t say it was ‘until the 12th’, they said the measures would be reviewed. There was never any indication that lockdown was due to end in the 12th. By ‘reviewed’ they could mean tightened, extra restrictions added, some lifted...

mouldygrapes · 12/04/2020 21:03

I’m sure one of the BBC Coronavirus podcasts said the earliest it could be reviewed was the 16th. Sorry, I can’t remember which episode this was

HilaryBriss · 12/04/2020 21:04

I don't understand why they are now waiting till Thursday when originally they said the lockdown was till 12th

They didn't actually say that lockdown would be until 12th though, they said that it would be reviewed at the end of the initial 3 weeks.

Girlymom2 · 12/04/2020 21:04

Thank you, I haven’t seen anything about it on the news lately as I’m trying not to watch a lot of it (it’s not helping my anxiety!) so I have heard nothing about end of the week etc....

I believe that according to the legislation they have brought in, it needs to be reviewed by the 16th.

BeetrootRocks · 12/04/2020 21:08

I think there was a clause put into the law that they have to review every 3 weeks.

Nothing will be changing at this point. At least not to loosen it.

Redwinestillfine · 12/04/2020 21:08

I think they just need to level with everyone. Spell it out so we all know where we stand. As it is people are only hearing the bits they want to and it's causing confusion.

wheresmymojo · 12/04/2020 21:15

There's no way anything will be loosened at this point so I'm just expecting them to say it will be extended another three weeks while they monitor numbers and figure out how and when they'll relax the lockdown a bit.

I suspect they may take some first tentative steps after 3-6 weeks, I also suspect it will earlier than I think it ought to be.

Youngatheart00 · 12/04/2020 21:22

They have to review it every 3 weeks as part of the emergency legislation.

I’m hoping they extend for a further 3 weeks so there is a clear message to the public that it is too early and too dangerous to relax measures yet.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 12/04/2020 21:27

SAGE are meeting the beginning of next week and announcement will come after that. I am almost sure we will be told, “some early positive signs, but too early to change anything, will stay the same and a review in another 3 weeks”.

Caroian · 12/04/2020 21:29

There was never any "end" to lockdown. They gave us a list of restrictions on Monday 23rd of March. The legislation supporting this did not actually go through until Thursday 26th. The legislation requires that it be reviewed every 3 weeks. Hence it will be reviewed by Thursday 16th March. The government can choose to lift it at any time, but the only thing they are required to do is review it - there is no end date set.

ifonly4 · 12/04/2020 21:34

I read it has to be reviewed by the 16th. Guess they'll delay it as late as possible so they are clearer on how numbers and going, also even though Boris shouldn't be working, I reckon they'll want his agreement to any decision and if they can leave him a day or two, they will.

Hippywannabe · 12/04/2020 22:21

On Tuesday, aren't they releasing the extra figures from the deaths outside hospitals? The people who have died at home or in care homes, for example. I think that will spike the numbers and give more incentive for the further lockdown.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/04/2020 22:42

They need to review it and inform the public that it is extended. We all know it's going to be extended but there are some arseholes out there not taking it seriously that will think come Tuesday they can start going out again unless they're explicitly told not to.

Iwantacookie · 12/04/2020 22:50

I definitely think we need some kind of public announcement tomorrow.
Even if were just told it's being extended for another 3 weeks.
Call me cynical but I can see alot of people going out Tuesday thinking lockdown has ended otherwise.

HoffiCoffi13 · 12/04/2020 22:54

But why would people think it’s ended? It was never once said that it would end in 3 weeks, just that those particular measures would be reviewed in 3 weeks. Completely different things. I dont know anyone who is expecting it to go back to normal tomorrow.

Llareggub · 12/04/2020 22:56

We’ve already been told in Wales.

YogaLite · 12/04/2020 22:57

Thanks guys, I missed the legislation which referred to 3 weeks from a Thursday, not Mon/Tue.

DramaAlpaca · 12/04/2020 22:59

In Ireland we have already been told that lockdown will be for at least another three weeks. I'd expect the UK to do the same. I know it's tough.

HoffiCoffi13 · 12/04/2020 23:00

I think that’s what the vast majority of people here are expecting to be honest DramaAlpaca. Genuinely don’t know anyone who is expecting measures to be lifted tonorrow.
