Ocado smart pass trials, tribulations and tiers

Background

On March 23, Ocado divided anytime and midweek smartpass members into random groups for access then realised that didn't work so divided us again into most loyal, loyal and near to miscellaneous tiers with having different levels of frequency for order delivery and indeed how many slots you can book in advance.

Certainly the most loyal and probably generally high average spend compared to local populations are the only ones being treated well. They are allowed to still book every seven days, can book 2-3 weeks in advance and are encouraged to book several slots over this time.

The rest of us are being treated with varying levels or service, disappointingly some have not had a single email since March 23 and still don't have access.

Those anytime pass members on the extremely vulnerable list by NHS England should be able to book every 7 days though aren't given the ability to book 2-3 weeks in advance. A few are apparently being called for fortnightly orders.

Ocado has been too greedy. They blame poor service on helping the extremely vulnerable but actually they let too many new and infrequent shoppers place orders putting too much stress on the system.

Complaints on social media are typically met with cut and paste replies. Both the call centre and chat comms have been shut down.

Those with weekly Reserved slots have had their places cancelled. The technology failed, or maybe actually wasn't fit for purpose anyhow

Let's hope we don't go to a third

Top tip is to try other companies including Morrisons who also deliver from warehouses.

Good luck to all

I had a delivery this morning but can't see future slots. Just wondered if that is normal? Have an anytime smartpass. Thanks!

Lifesbetterwithwine · 23/05/2020 15:33

@cannonball8726

I’m managing to book a weekly slot up to three weeks in advance With Ocado. I’ve got an anytime pass and live in the West Midlands. I’ve also managed to book occasional slots at Morrisons and Sainsburys (for my elderly parents).

Fuss · 23/05/2020 16:23

Anytime Pass. Weekly deliveries to 11th June now.

cannonball8726 · 23/05/2020 17:22

Oh! I wonder why I cannot see any future slots :(

linelgreen · 23/05/2020 17:35

Can honestly say that throughout this Ocado have been great. I have managed a delivery most weeks apart from 2 when I could not get a slot but those weeks managed a Tesco delivery which was so abysmal in terms of missing items that an hour after it arrived I had to go to a local supermarket to finish off my shopping totally defeating the objective of the delivery the second missing week we had a Sainsbury delivery which although better than the Tesco one there were still shortdated and missing items. Thankfully from now I have a regular weekly one booked and ready to go for the next 3 weeks. Keep up the good work Ocado just hope things don't change when the M&S tie up happens.

Have looked on calendar Cannonball

PowerslidePanda · 25/05/2020 17:04

What's everyone doing about their bags? Ocado said they'll start the return scheme at some point in the future so I've been holding on mine, but I've got loads now and (assuming everyone else does too) I'm starting to wonder if they'll actually accept that kind of quantity back. But if they will, my collection must be worth a fortune, so I'm hesitant to get rid of them!

ToffeeYoghurt · 25/05/2020 17:05

I use my bags as bin liners.

ToffeeYoghurt · 25/05/2020 17:07

Perhaps donate excess bags to charity shops when this is over. They often need them. I don't know if food banks might also need them?

FlamingoAndJohn · 25/05/2020 17:12

Mine have gone in the loft for the moment. I’m sitting on a gold mine!

bookgirl1982 · 25/05/2020 18:36

Bags piling up here too. I'm using them for bin liners but that doesn't use as many as come each week!

SingingTunelessly · 25/05/2020 18:41

I’ve got loads of bags to go back but as we haven’t been charged for them for ages now don’t think they’ll be any refund! Just means they’ll reuse them and they won’t end up in landfill.

PowerslidePanda · 25/05/2020 22:33

Yeah, I guess it would cost them a fortune to give back 5p per bag! I hadn't considered that charity shops might want them - I'll ask the ones we're registered with when they re-open; thanks for the idea!

mohasfluffytoes · 26/05/2020 03:38

Bags are currently living in the boot of my unused car!

Has anyone else signed up for the new email
notice? Says on the gateway page that from
now on general slot releases will be notified by email. But you have to sign up for the emails. It sent me into a bit of a panic again that we won't get slots. Well it did until I got a slot for June by randomly logging in just now... wish they'd stop moving the goalposts.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 26/05/2020 16:06

Did anyone else just get an email saying the cost of the smart pass is almost doubling next month?!

bruffin · 26/05/2020 16:31

no, but how much do you normally pay for your smartpass?

NotAnotherUserNumber · 26/05/2020 16:38

I did pay £5.99 as this was the cost when I signed up years ago, but now will be £10.99 from next month.

Noflora · 26/05/2020 17:13

I think £10.99 has long been the official price but in the decade I've had Smartpass I've never paid that. If you cancel your pass or ring them before renewal there have always been excellent deals. But this is probably the worst time to play chicken with them. Worth a phonecall though.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 26/05/2020 20:05

Will try giving them a call. I am on the government shielding list, so can’t go without deliveries at the moment, and they know this, so I guess from their point of view it is the best time to raise my price!

FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 31/05/2020 21:57

Anytime pass, still only allowed 2-3 slots a month. I give them all to my Mum. I’m going to give all my bags to the local food bank.

kingkuta · 31/05/2020 22:34

I'm also swimming in bags.
My midweek smart pass has gone from 2.99 to full price of 6.99. I called up to try and reduce it but was told in no uncertain terms that it was a management decision that there was to be no reductions in smart passes and there was therefore nothing they could do. I've never had any problems getting this reduced in the past

Redglitter · 31/05/2020 23:05

I had a ton of Tesco bags. The good string ones. My local food bank were delighted to take them

Quarantino · 01/06/2020 00:09

Anyone else find they are shockingly short of lots of stock even though I'm ordering for over 2 weeks' time? Lots of ice lollies not in stock, sugar, and all the basic/ own-brand packets of cereal, rice, pasta etc. Loads more examples that I've forgotten! It's really frustrating cos I'm spending lots more but having less choice. Especially combined with them slowly withdrawing some Waitrose products and a few others I used to get regularly.

That said, I've at least received nearly all of my ordered items recently with no mad subs, and just one or two weird "item missing" like pitta bread.

FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 01/06/2020 01:58

Flash sales always used to be 50% off. Now they are always 33%. Prices have increased across the board. So much stock is unavailable. No own brand foil available for over a month. So much out of stock. You would have thought they would have pulled them selves together by now.

anxiousannies · 01/06/2020 03:43

I could get a weekly delivery slot easily but when I signed up for the midweek smart pass I was unable to get a delivery for a month. They were surprised and not all that helpful when I cancelled it 😔
