Carrie Symonds massive PR stunt?

Reading what CS has said seems to me to be a massive PR stunt basically telling people /pregnant women they don’t need testing if they have Symptoms. Are we really supposed to believe that she hasn’t been tested given she is carrying the PM’s child and he is positive? Of course she has been tested, albeit probably privately (which I don’t have a problem with - her money). I know what the advice about testing is - I simply don’t believe she hasn’t been tested. This is just to show “we are all being treated the same” when we all know that is not the case.

She tweeted: “I’ve spent the past week in bed with the main symptoms of Coronavirus. I haven’t needed to be tested and, after seven days of rest, I feel stronger and I’m on the mend. Being pregnant with Covid-19 is obviously worrying. To other pregnant women, please do read and follow the most up to date guidance which I found to be v reassuring.”

Yes, as front line NHS clinician I am indeed. So how do you explain Camilla being tested?

The rules are different in Scotland
They have underlying conditions you know nothing about that made testing appropriate
Prince Charles had more severe symptoms than they were saying and she was at risk having been close to him
Who knows, most people have more to worry about just now.

Clavinova · 05/04/2020 18:36

He absolutely did not meet their published criteria at the time

Nicola Sturgeon stood next to her Health Minister when she confirmed that Prince Charles had met the criteria for testing - are you saying they both lied?

1forsorrow · 05/04/2020 18:40

I’m in Scotland. He got tested by NHS Grampian. He absolutely did not meet their published criteria at the time. It has now been removed from the website. So have you been looking at his medical records? If so that is not on, if you haven't you don't know why they did it. If hehadn't had the sort of support he has at home maybe he should have been in hospital.

Bubblebu · 05/04/2020 18:43

I don't know but my guess would be that she is horrified to see BJ in such a bad way (if you are cynical you would say because her whole original motivation to be with him was self serving, i.e he was to some extent a meal ticket for her - I find it difficult to believe it was / is true love) and has at this stage of her pregnancy realised she may be destined for a future as a single mother before she marries him.
And so this is a PR stunt being her own way to try to support him and his policies and hoping that might be enough to pull him out of his current confinement.....

Marieo · 05/04/2020 18:47

I’m not sure the point you are making? If the rules were followed, neither Charles or Boris would be tested as they were not admitted to hospital.

Because one is heir to the throne (and did meet the criteria where he was), and the other is the prime minister Confused that's the point, if you can't see why they were tested then honestly, maybe you need to get a grip. Yes it's terrible there aren't tests for healthcare workers, but I don't think 2 (possibly 3) with Camilla when the tests have been being sold privately for a few months anyway to 'celebs' makes a dent in the thousands needed and the facilities to process them. She didn't need to go to hospital thankfully, and she was self isolating having been in contact with a confirmed case, why would she need testing? If you are so sure she lied, maybe get a job sleuthing or something, people are ridiculous.

Crikey . Mumsnet gets lower and lower .

A national and worldwide crisis when we all should be coming together results in nasty political classist posts .

I am sorry to say I am not surprised.

Btw there are tests you can buy . But not all of them have been verified as being accurate.

greenlynx · 05/04/2020 19:16

I think Boris is not out yet that’s why Carry did this interview it was to distract from him a bit. I sincerely hope he’s fine and all is fine with Carry and her baby. I’m not a Tory voter but it absolutely doesn’t matter now. And I don’t mind that Boris was tested he’s the head of government, he’s a front line key worker. On the other side testing Charles (and especially Camilla) was waste of resources. But I believed that Carry wasn’t tested. Her partner was tested, she had symptoms, why did she need additional hassle of testing and more contacts? She stayed in bed until she became better. I would do the same. The only tests I would be interested in her place now - tests that my baby is ok.

Milky77 · 05/04/2020 19:48

What a horrible thing say, OP

VivaLeBeaver · 05/04/2020 20:06

For those who disagree - why do you think she felt it necessary to tell us she hadn’t “needed” a test? Why not just say “I’ve had some symptoms and now on the mend?”

Probably because she knew if she didn’t make it clear she hadn’t had a test people would start sniping that she probably had being tested and had preferential treatment. Imagine she wanted to preempt that.

Bubblebu · 05/04/2020 20:59

Why could she not have simply said she was self isolating because of her relationship with BJ full stop. I really cannot see why anything further was needed at all.
I am sure 99.9% of pregnant women will be frantically checking the guidance for themselves anyway. I don't understand it.

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2020 21:01

Op, what’s the big thing with Carrie being tested or not. Why’s it such a big deal to you?

She was likely offered and declined, as she’s holed up in chequers, and is only mild symptoms. She never said she wasn’t given the chance.

And if you think for one moment she’d have to go private you’re highly deluded. She was Likely offered, and declined as she was just having mild symptoms.

Honestly do you not have something else to stress about? Why are you so hung up on this?

HealingCalmingSoothing · 05/04/2020 21:05

So she spent the last week in bed with the symptoms of Coronavirus?

I think the symptoms can be nasty, irregular and damaging to the health. So she has been in bed with Boris then for the last week?

You can't get much more damaging to the health then trying to wreck / cash strap the NHS!

TedsFederationRep · 05/04/2020 21:20

For heaven's sake.

Carrie Symonds has largely stayed out of the spotlight since the night before the general election. She is not an elected politician at whom it might be legitimate to take potshots on the grounds of her political policy.

She is a young woman pregnant with her first child at a time of national crisis because of a worrying virus that is killing people before their time. She offered what she probably believed might be words of reassurance to other expectant women - and for taking the trouble, there are posters on here who accuse her of meretricious behaviour and engaging in a PR stunt.

Give her a break.

And do give it a rest.

TestBank · 05/04/2020 21:28

Well she is a PR professional.

TedsFederationRep · 05/04/2020 21:31

Still doesn't mean she should be accused of lying.

People really need to give their heads a wobble.

In what other world would it be OK to take potshots at a pregnant woman for offering a few kind words of reassurance?
