Where do you think this came from?

Just that really. Where do you think this virus came from? What started it?

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/04/2020 11:09

People didnt eat the bats. Bats infected the animals that were then eaten

Was the other animal eaten or used in Chinese Medicine?

LegoBloodyHurts · 04/04/2020 11:17

You only have to Google Image wet markets to see how disgusting those places are. They must be teeming with so many viruses and bacteria. 🤢

Truly disgusting and not surprising a virus managed to mutate and escape to the general population. It’s actually surprising it hasn’t happened on this level sooner.

Flaxmeadow · 04/04/2020 11:24

People didnt eat the bats.

Some people have eaten bats though. There are YouTube videos of people eating them in restaurants with time stamps that are before Covid19. I believe deep fried bat was a preferred recipe or a kind of bat soup maybe?

Not sure how common it was or whether the virus was passed directly that way.

Also Chinese homeopathic medicine uses some strange and cruel animal ingredients. Maybe they think they will gain animal like powers by ingesting certain animals. God knows Confused

WoollySheep462 · 04/04/2020 11:28

There was a department in the US studying coronaviruses and planning for Pandemics. It had its funding withdrawn last year. Hmm

jobhunter7 · 04/04/2020 12:23

I do wonder if our collective attitude to animals doesn't help in general... and we had a better one, these things may happen less.

yetea · 04/04/2020 12:29

If we didn't eat as many animals (intensive farming) and encroach on their habitats then these things would absolutely happen less. Unfortunately we would need a global shift in thinking and I can't see that happening.

Jenasaurus · 04/04/2020 13:00

I think it probably did start in Bats in the Wet Market but did the Bat come from the Lab opposite

Randomschoolworker19 · 04/04/2020 13:58

I think people will treat this like 9/11 in that most people will believe the official story terrorists / wet markets.

Equally there will always be some niggling doubt - it was odd how both towers came down like demolitions / suspicious there was a bioweapons lab so close.

We'll probably never know until everyone alive today is well and truly dead so maybe by the year 2150....

overandunder9 · 04/04/2020 14:11

If we are going down the man-made option, let’s not forget China and the US were in the depths of a trade war when this all started. And Trump was going through the impeachment case..... Events in China were a nice distraction for the media and an opportunity to fuel some anti-chinese flames. Trump wouldn’t then care about it affecting the US as in his eyes, this would just get rid of the weakest who we all know he couldn’t care less about.

lubeybooby · 04/04/2020 14:19

many viruses can be traced back to zoonotic transmission from animals to humans... since long, long before any laboratories were built

Spied · 04/04/2020 14:38

A part of my brain just can't accept that it's a coincidence that the lab is there at the center of where all this began.

ChorleyNot · 04/04/2020 14:41

Fuck up in the lab where they were studying corona viruses in bats, in a facility 300 metres away from the wet market.

ChorleyNot · 04/04/2020 14:46

Apparently there's pretty strong evidence from the papers that were produced in the months and years before the outbreak that scientists in the Wuhan lab were studying viruses in bats. Then research scientist disappeared just at the same time that the lab advertised a position where the applicant would be studying a newly discovered corona virus.

The Chinese government is claiming that the missing researcher is 'alive and well', but no one can confirm this. It's thought she was patient zero.

I have fact checked none of this!

ChorleyNot · 04/04/2020 14:52

Also (again not fact-checked - I wouldn't know where to start!) the lab weren't keeping what they were studying secret. It was a research facility like many others trying to find out more about viruses to help people most likely.

Just a workplace fuck-up with dire worldwide consequences I reckon.

480Widdio · 04/04/2020 14:56

It came from bats.

The U.K. seems to have forgotten the Hong Kong Flu Pandemic in 1968,it was highly contagious and killed 80,000 people here alone.

It was Worldwide, but the World didn’t shut down because of it.

I remember it well as I was a Student Nurse at the time, one thing I do remember is that we had masks, gloves and gowns, the present situation where there is no PPE for our frontline workers is unbelievable.

ChorleyNot · 04/04/2020 15:05

It was Worldwide, but the World didn’t shut down because of it.

I think in the fairly recent past it was just more accepted that life is risky and that ill health and disease and death are common (certain - in the case of the latter!).

Better living conditions and the wonders of modern medicine seem to have made us forget none of us are immortal that now, especially in the West.

Flaxmeadow · 04/04/2020 15:13

Why wouldn't there be a lab in one of the largest cities in China?

PicsInRed · 04/04/2020 15:24

The lab in Wuhan.

Accident or intent. That's the question.

The word they're looking for is "sorry" and they need to get the fuck on with saying it - rather than blaming everyone else like a petulant 4 year old. It's just embarrassing.

PicsInRed · 04/04/2020 15:27

Why wouldn't there be a lab in one of the largest cities in China?

What, the only BSL-4 in China?
Which happens to specific interest in just this sort of virus? And advertised for uni students to assist on a project with just such a virus towards the end of last year?

What a coincidence. Hmm

lemontreebird · 04/04/2020 15:31

New World Order/the Illuminati, no?

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 04/04/2020 15:39

Well if it’s the only BSL4 lab in China, and China was the location of the outbreak of SARS type diseases, I think they’d be pretty keen to study it right there. Sometimes the coincidences are there for a reason.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/04/2020 15:41

"New World Order/the Illuminati, no?"

Well, not on their own. Also helped by Putin, the aliens, the masons and the Royal Family. There's always more than meets the eye!

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 04/04/2020 15:45

(Having said that, I’ve read The Hot Zone (factual account of a potential Ebola outbreak in the USA) and one of the scientists there came very close to releasing a potentially airbourne strain of Ebola into the local population in Washington (USA) because he didn’t take his sample seriously enough and sniffed it, potentially infecting himself and spreading it to the community. Sooo... Shock )

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/04/2020 15:52

Wet market in Wuhan

Humans messing around with nature too much mixing live and dead animals, slaughtering animals, wild and farmed for food animals under one roof With minimal regard to hygiene

I don’t doubt that in labs all over the world experiments that could potentially harm many people take place but I don’t believe this is the issue. It’s happened before human/animal transmission of viruses and will no doubt happen again

PicsInRed · 04/04/2020 15:56

Sometimes the coincidences are there for a reason.

...yeeessss...the point is that coincidentally the exact same sort of virus was being researched within easy walking distance of the centre of the outbreak.

The most logical and likely origin is that someone fucked up and, to borrow from the script of Contagion, the virus "walked out on the bottom of someone's shoe".

There were serious longstanding concerns that China was not robust enough in its safety procedures to safely host a BSL-4. That concern would seem to have been borne out to the detriment of the entire world.

Again. The word is sorry. China needs to get on with saying it.
