The Royals jumping ship... part 2

Shiny new thread now we have had some royal crumbs thrown our way.

Will William rejoin the air ambulance like he has been threatening to do? Or was it a bit of lip service in the hope we will all go away and leave him to enjoy his 5* lockdown experience?

Charles has pointlessly 'opened' a hospital via video link, praising the NHS whose rules he flouted by flying to his rural second home country estate, whilst experience coronavirus symptoms. Such a shame he just had to make an emergency dash out of London, being holed up in a Scottish manor surrounded by red squirrels and coniferous forest must be simply awful. I'm sure he would much prefer a 2 bedroom house with a courtyard garden, much cosier.

Harry and Megs have hopped over the pond and now live in LA. Being professionals in self isolation, I'm sure they will be just fine.

On the upside the Queen will be addressing the nation on Sunday, genuinely thrilled for my grandparents who will no doubt be watching with a glass of whisky and a silk cut.

Onto the next chapter...

When this is over let's tax the Royals like any other family. And if they move any money to any tax havens take any monies lost off the Royal list funds. They have privileged, inherited wealth time for them to pay their way or get off the throne.

Do an anagram search on Archewell.
So funny.
La welcher.
Leacher.

Good luck with that; I've been reading And What Do You Do? by Norman Baker and there's a whole chapter on tax being sidestepped - even when it's been clearly established that it's due

Hard not to wonder how those tasked with levying it have been influenced ...

EightNineTen · 12/04/2020 14:32

The Queen already has a load of money stashed in a tax haven. That came out fairly recently.

mummmy2017 · 12/04/2020 14:42

The queen pays 85% tax.
Bet you wouldn't.

Wolfgirrl · 12/04/2020 15:12

@mummmy2017

...on an estate belonging to the public.

The sovereign grant was 80 million last year.

Bet you would let yourself be taxed on something you didnt own for money like that.

@mummmy2017

Are you one of those meghan haters that loves the royals?

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2020 15:32

The queen pays 85% tax

On what part of her wealth? And do you have A source for that please?

PicsInRed · 12/04/2020 15:43

Will William rejoin the air ambulance like he has been threatening to do?

🤣🤣🤣

PicsInRed · 12/04/2020 15:50

The queen pays 85% tax.

Oh the fuck she does. 🤣

Let's put all the assets she has effective control of, and whole of world assets for that matter, into the pot and rerun that calc eh?

You'll need to put a decimal point in front of it.

vera99 · 12/04/2020 15:55

85% put up or shut up !

www.republic.org.uk/winning-the-argument/crown-estate

Some people will claim the Queen pays 85% tax on this income. Others say the Crown Estate directly pays for the royals, or that anyway the revenue that comes from the Crown Estate far outweighs the £40m, £80m or £345m annual bill from the royals.

The problem is, the Crown Estate isn't the Queen's income. It's ours. The Crown Estate doesn't pay for the royals, it has nothing to do with funding the monarchy. The idea that the Queen is paying 85% is just daft.

mummmy2017 · 12/04/2020 17:47

The crown estate does belong to the current sovereign.
It was all land owned by the king at the time and includes the coast of the UK.
Swap for an income and used to pay the Govenment.
Learn your facts

Wolfgirrl · 12/04/2020 19:58

@mummmy2017

was all land owned by the king at the time and includes the coast of the UK.

Clue is in the word 'was'. The king gave the land to the government in exchange for not paying for the civil service, defence etc. The Crown Estate is simply a public administration which deals with the land, a bit like a department. The land does not belong to the monarch but profits are a perk of the job. A bit like Boris Johnson does not own 10 downing street.

It isnt me that needs to learn my facts.

🙄

@mummmy2017 just wondered if you're going to provide that source for the Queen paying 85% tax?

CathyorClaire · 12/04/2020 21:05

It was all land owned by the king at the time

And how do you think the king's ancestors got hold of it in the first place?

CathyorClaire · 12/04/2020 21:07

Also. Source for bollocks 85% claim ?

Wolfgirrl · 12/04/2020 22:50

@CathyorClaire

Gut feeling you wont get an answer.

It's how royalists work, they make a mess of their 'points' then quit the conversation saying they cant be bothered any more 😂😂

www.royal.uk/royal-finances-0

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/04/2020 19:13

I'm familiar with the contents of that site, @mummmy2017, but have never seen anything suggesting the Queen pays 85% tax

Not to worry, though - we'll wait while you find the actual source for the claim

CathyorClaire · 16/04/2020 21:21

No hard stats of any description there.

Wolfgirrl · 16/04/2020 22:37

@mummmy2017

So we are further on and guess what... no sign of Wills in a helicopter!

And the elderly war hero Captain Tom Moore has raised £12 million in a matter of days. Sorry what was that about only the royals can raise the amount for charity that they do..?

OP posts:
Wolfgirrl · 16/04/2020 22:38

Can anybody bring our attention to anything useful our senior royals have done bar PR exercises?

OP posts:
mummmy2017 · 16/04/2020 23:35

So sorry 15% of profit on her money after all the coast is paid for, castles that people visit, Parliament is rent free.

So 85% is tax....

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/04/2020 09:39

15% of profit on her money after all the coast (cost?) is paid for, castles that people visit, Parliament is rent free
So 85% is tax ...

Eh?? I'm genuinely trying to understand where you're coming from here, but I can't quite see how that makes sense

What money? The Sovereign Grant doesn't work on a profit/loss basis, and presumably you didn't mean HM's private wealth as we don't know the extent of that anyway

Some links/sources really would be useful, since just as I can't find anything about 85% tax I can't trace an account of profit either
