If you think you've had it, did others in household get it?

Just wondering how much this is caught or not caught by living at close quarters with others. I have heard some say household transmission is a given, others say it is quite low. But then also others in the household might be getting it but not showing symptoms.

The CMO said in a briefing that those sharing a household are highly likely to get it also.

2 weeks DS 13 had a fever, headache and vomiting for 2 days. He had previously been skiing in Italy.
We stayed in for 2 weeks and then yesterday I started to display symptoms.

HoffiCoffi13 · 02/04/2020 21:24

I’m pretty sure our whole household has had it, some had textbook symptoms and some very minor symptoms.

Inkpaperstars · 02/04/2020 21:25

Oh gosh, hope you only have mild symptoms @middleager.

Well I have had a fever since Sunday but not much of a cough. Dd now has a cough...

PhoneLock · 02/04/2020 21:29

My husband was very ill with multiple CV symptoms but I caught nothing.

His doctor described it as a serious viral infection but no test was done.

TeaAndBisquits · 02/04/2020 21:39

My dd1 started with a cough and after 5 days so did I.

Hers went as mine started and I've had a temperature, tight chest, headaches and just generally feeling totally wiped out for about 8 days now. I'm coming out the other side but still with the chest issues and cough.

My dd2 started with a cough about 3 days ago and had a high temperature for two days, she seems fine with it now.

My husband has yet to have any symptoms bar hay fever type runny nose and feeling stuffy.

PonderTweek · 02/04/2020 21:40

I keep going from thinking we definitely had it to "hmm, still not sure", but I'll answer anyway. My son came down with a high fever that lasted for a week, and then 5 days later I first got a sore throat/tonsillitis, followed by a fever of 38,5-ish for about 6 days, followed by coughing and shortness of breath. About 5 days into my illness my husband started getting chest pains, shortness of breath and pleurisy. So whatever it was, we all had it.

I think it would be really difficult to isolate from your family if you live with them, so likely that everyone would catch it.

bathorshower · 02/04/2020 21:41

DH has (almost certainly) had it, but I've shown no symptoms. However testing in Iceland (the country) showed that about half of those who tested positive didn't have any symptoms, so I strongly suspect I'm one of those. We haven't been isolating from each other at all - we have DC, and only one bathroom.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 02/04/2020 21:44

I'm currently 6 days into symptoms and it's rough really bloody rough and I don't have it bad... my OH has much more mild symptoms than me (thankfully as he is Diabetic) his started 2 days after mine so it seems I was the "Typhoid Mary" in our household I am gutted as I was so so careful and the only place I could have caught it was the supermarket.
For me the Cough and Severe fatigue is the hardest part...I only have a slight temperature thankfully. I haven't been tested but according to the NHS checklist and app it's very likely I have it.
Nobody else we know that we were in contact with 2weeks ago (daughters and partners) have any symptoms and other than the 1trip to the supermarket ( where I think I got infected) we haven't left the house in 2weeks and won't for another 10 days at least.
Fingers crossed We don't get worsening symptoms
Good luck all

FatMatress · 02/04/2020 21:54

I suspect DH had it, way back before northern Italy really hit the headlines asa CV hotspot —he was there for work and after he came back he was quite unwell. Still went to work because he thought it was just a bad cold, but he was absolutely exhausted, feverish and was crawling into bed as soon as he got home for a week or ten days — neither DS (7) nor I have had any noticeable symptoms.

Buzztothemoon · 02/04/2020 22:05

Pretty sure we’ve all had it. DH thought it was a bit of a weird bout of tonsillitis. DD had more classic symptoms of cough and temp. Mine were a weird collection... bit of a cough, lost my voice then sense of taste and smell. But I really didn’t feel that unwell and under normal circumstances definitely wouldn’t have bothered to take a day off work even. But that’s what’s so incredibly pernicious about this virus - so many people won’t even know they had it or symptoms will be so mild if they weren’t being told to check they would carry on.

ChippityDoDa · 02/04/2020 22:11

We are pretty certain my DH had it, he self isolated from us for 7 days (this was pre the 14 day advice) but I had no symptoms and neither did the DC. I am wondering if I did in fact had it and was asymptomatic. He gave me a big snog on the very morning that he later cane down with symptoms!

WoollyFoolly · 02/04/2020 22:11

I suspect 2 of us have had it - symptoms started within a day of each other and we both self-isolated immediately and stayed isolated for a week. No one else has yet come down with anything in the household, it's now more than 2 weeks since the first onset. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as 2 of the unaffected household have asthma which is one reason we were so quick to isolate and were quite rigorous about it.

CheshireAxe · 02/04/2020 22:12

I think i have it and i developed symptoms 5 to 7 days after visiting supermarket. Thats the only place I've been. I have sore throat, thickly cough, slight headaches, body ache, lymph gland pain in groin, arm pits, abdomen and tiredness. No fever though. I hope the family don't get it and that ot doesn't get any worse. I'm after positive mild dose success stories please.

Baaaahhhhh · 02/04/2020 22:15

Think DD had it. She did stay in her rom for 7 days and I followed her around with antibacterial, but we shared bathrooms, and weren't obsessive about distancing or cleaning, and the rest of us are OK. She was with us for five days before she was ill as well, so who knows. Perhaps we are lucky, immune, or haven't had it.

LizzieSiddal · 02/04/2020 22:16

My dd has had it, very bad cough, exhaustion, achy and temp. She lives in a one bed flat in London, with her boyfriend who looked after her for two weeks.

He doesn't seem to have caught it as he hasn’t had any symptoms at all.

Nanny0gg · 02/04/2020 22:17

Think my DS had it. Had all symptoms - cough, no taste, shivery. No sore throat.

One child had a temp for about 4 days. His DW and other DC were fine.

Baaaahhhhh · 02/04/2020 22:17

Oh, her symptoms were mild temp, headaches, aches and pains, and chronic fatigue. No cough, although tight chest. She is better now, 14 days, but still absolutely wiped out.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 02/04/2020 22:18

DH and I both had crushing headache and sore throat (swollen glands) for 2 days, and just when we thought “is this the virus?” It stopped. Then DS2 got it, but even milder symptoms. DS1 did not catch anything but coughed for 2 days, but not terribly.

It was so mild though I think it must have been a different virus. Guess we’ll never know Confused

Actually we had no dry cough or fever, so prob not.

McFarts · 02/04/2020 22:20

I think i may have, my friend and her toddler have (although not confirmed) literally everything she has described about how she has felt, i had. Hacking non productive cough that was just end less, no sleep for literally two weeks, weight of an elephant sat on my chest, shortness of breath even just getting up for the loo, high temp, very sore throat (but only at bottom, almost like it was burnt) awful metallic taste. The only this that differed was that i completely lost my voice. My DH also got a milder version a week later and so did all of our 3 children, but again milder, more like a bad cough and a temperature for about 4 days.

Here the thing tho, i had this at the end of November! but it literally took me whilst after Christmas to feel anything like normal! My GP prescribed 2 lots of antibiotics but they didn't help.

Littlepond · 02/04/2020 22:21

I think I’ve had it. I think DH got it as well. The kids seem ok so far.

Inkpaperstars · 02/04/2020 22:24

Thank you everyone for all the replies. So intriguing as to how many had it without symptoms...or did they? DP and I live together and have one bed so hard to isolate effectively if one of us is coughing etc I guess I will take the sofa!

Dd had it (something very like cv) first, she was pretty poorly. Then me, all cv symptoms,.lasted.for 12 days. Dh, dd2 and ds all had mild symptoms

fairyfingers · 02/04/2020 22:33

I may have had it at start of March with fever, aches, loss of appetite, cough in week one and then sore throat, tight chest and tired in week 2.

Dd 2 had a cough and temp before/same time as me but mildly, dd1 (also known as cockroach in this house as she has the immune system of a tank) was feverish and off for a day. They are primary school age. DH had nothing. But this is typical of us - I catch everything, Dd2 gets it next and dd1/dh rarely get ill.

I may have just had flu of course so who knows.
