I haven't seen any either. I am stocked up as I always am but once I've used what I have I doubt I'll be able to get more for ages. I've been baking for years and never seen a shortage like this.

GrumpyHoonMain · 02/04/2020 17:33

Can still get chickpea flour so I’m making a lot of Gujarati dishes I swore I never would lol

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 02/04/2020 17:38

Because half of the nation decided all of a sudden to bake bread at home. If you look around, all breadmakers are gone from the shelves (I was not looing to buy one, have had one already that I hardly ever used lol) but needed a part that I lost and looked everywhere, to no avail, and so is the yeast. We are gonna experience every household producing a Paul Hollywood soon...
It annoys me as I need flour for other stuff (you can actually buy bread now in storeseasily enough), and can't get hold of any.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/04/2020 17:39

There's flour in my local Aldi, I picked some up today. No plain but loads of self raising. Asda had some too at the weekend.

Slurpy · 02/04/2020 17:39

I'm so desperate to get hold of some gram/chickpea flour (as well as other flour too of course) - I'm very jealous GrumpyHoonMain!
I've scoured the internet for it, but there's none to be found and I live in rural Wales, so there's none in the shops and never was. Just as I discovered the delights of swede pakoras (necessity being the mother of invention and all that) and you can make tofu out of it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/04/2020 17:40

I'm boredom baking for lack of other things to do, I'll admit! Just cakes and biscuits though, I'm not going to attempt bread.

couchparsnip · 02/04/2020 17:42

I've been baking more and have now run out of flour. I wouldn't normally be but with the kids at home and lots of time on our hands it seems like the thing to do.

lyingwanker · 02/04/2020 17:43

It's hit and miss round here too. I think it's for a mix of reasons like people baking bread, baking with the kids, crafts with the kids, making pasta and also cooking from scratch more rather than buying packet mixes.

SistemaAddict · 02/04/2020 17:44

I bake my own bread. Try your local health shop or deli if you haven't already. Both of mine sell flour.

DramaAlpaca · 02/04/2020 17:45

It's the same here in Ireland. As soon as flour comes in it flies out of the shops. I've seen self-raising and plain, but can't get strong white flour at all.

dementedma · 02/04/2020 17:46

Plenty here in central scotland

MichaelBoobins · 02/04/2020 17:47

Some of the local butchers in my area are selling bags of flour. If you need some then maybe see if there’s any near you?

Rewy · 02/04/2020 17:48

I’ve been looking for flour too. None round here.
No feckin Quorn either grrrrr

Panicmode1 · 02/04/2020 17:50

I can get flour, but not yeast! We have an ancient breadmaker so have been using it more often and have managed to get flour, but am running low on yeast.... none in Sainsburys today..... but I got a big bag of bread flour.

IggyAce · 02/04/2020 17:50

I got some plain flour yesterday at Aldi, we needed it as have made Yorkshire puddings and pastry.

ShowOfHands · 02/04/2020 17:54

I can't get pasta anywhere but got flour today. I usually get pasta from our local health food shop but it's been 6 weeks since they've had any. None of our local supermarkets have any and the only place selling it was the market but they closed that down 2 weeks ago. I wonder how long it will take for things to settle down. I just can't fathom where it's all gone or why it's still selling out within minutes. Do people not have enough yet? Toilet roll supplies have been normal for a fortnight here, but pasta is a distant memory.

Gulsink · 02/04/2020 17:55

I got some flour in Lidl the other day. No eggs to be seen anywhere though.

Palmtree · 02/04/2020 17:59

If you haven't got any yeast try a blob of Marmite (if you have it/can bear it). It's made of yeast extract.

Haffiana · 02/04/2020 18:02

Eh? I don't think you can use Marmite instead of yeast in breadmaking??

You CAN make a sourdough starter though...

stickerqueen · 02/04/2020 18:03

I managed to get some eggs but they got no stamp on them though eggs had stamps that you brought from the shop.
I've not brought eggs for years because we had chickens ourself. At the moment my friends got the chickens in her garden so she's getting the eggs from them for looking after them.
Also managed to get plain and self-raising flour in the corner shop.

Thecatisboss · 02/04/2020 18:09

Tesco had plain and bread flour here on Monday no yeast though however I have a sourdough starter so not too reliant on that though Dd won't eat sourdough bread. I am boredom baking though, marmalade steamed pudding yesterday and cinnamon and raisin buns today.

Iwantedthat · 02/04/2020 18:10

I went to aldi yesterday and was able to get pasta, beans, toilet roll but no flour still, or caster sugar. . And I've got the school harping on about 'do some baking and send up a picture.' Angry

RB68 · 02/04/2020 18:27

Ii got bread flour last week OK - not alot on the shelves but managed that. Thing is many people like to cook and don't get the time so I sort of understand it.

Curious78 · 02/04/2020 18:36

I was hoping to bake a special cake for my daughter's 4th birthday in the coming days but it's looking increasingly like I won't be able to. Enjoy your bread and messy kids play.

Hannah021 · 02/04/2020 18:42

@MonaLisaDoesntSmile lol honestly so true, there is so much ready made break for people to buy, why make your own!? or maybe it is cupcake time !!
