Alcohol dependency - shopping at the minute

I’m shopping for an elderly relative who has an alcohol issue. Obviously, top of their list is cider but I’m really struggling to get enough. I know I probably shouldn’t be enabling them, but I don’t feel now is the right time to attempt to force anyone to go cold turkey.

I’ve managed to get some on my Asda click and collect order for tomorrow, but I have no deliveries or collections booked for after that, as I can manage with a butchers delivery and a veg box, and I’m not really wanting to go into a supermarket just to fetch bloody cider!

Is there anywhere I can order online? He just drinks the cheap 2l bottles. Any advice appreciated! Thanks :)

What about a corner shop?

The local shops are all restricting to one of each item per customer so I’d be making a lot of trips and I’m really trying to avoid people!

Tesco local have a three bottle limit (crofters £2) and Lidl have a 4 bottle, had to ask DS to get a supply for my brother who can shop for himself but can't buy and carry enough

Thanks, I didn’t realise Lidl had a 4 item limit which is useful as that’s his tipple of choice.

Should probably throw into the mix that I’m physically disabled and the long queues are another reason I’m trying to avoid supermarket shopping if I can, as I’m not sure I can cope with all the standing around to get inside.

I know for my brother his local off licence will deliver but he's embarrassed to buy bulk and the cider is £2.90. If you know which is delivering I'd ring and ask.
I'm fact that's exactly what I told my brother after DS had to go to three shops before work!
If he won't cut down then he will have to beat the shame.

I’ll ring around a few local shops I think to see if they can help. It’s a pain in the bloody arse to be honest as I can’t carry much and I’m dreading picking up my Asda order tomorrow, as we have the locker system to collect from, so I know I’m going to get some funny looks when I’m holding the collection queue up because of all the bloody cider I’m trying to haul to my car

His alcohol addiction doesn't trump your disability and safety. Therefore l personally would pre-warn him that you can't get the amounts he wants and he needs to start safely reducing his intake.

I know that all sounds idealistic but if you get ill, who will then help you out?

He normally shops at Lidl and fetches his own, but he’s now shielding so can’t do this anymore. He gets through just over a bottle a day; only drinks in the evening but has done this for the last 40 years and I don’t want him going into withdrawal and putting yet more strain on the NHS.

Do you have a Morrison's near you? If I get on early enough I find there are always slots every day.

Yes I’ve tried Morrison’s and haven’t managed to get anything, but I’ll keep trying.

You can buy lots of booze on amazon and have it quickly delivered.

He’s not got a shop within walking distance unfortunately. I know his GP classed him as alcohol dependent, but he won’t have it as he doesn’t drink in the day. However, he does gets very shaky if he can’t get a drink of an evening and his health is fragile at the best of times. I’ll see what the local shops can do, and check out Amazon.

I daren’t add any more alcohol onto my Asda order as I’m embarrassed by the amount I’m collecting already!

Fine if you can fit it into shopping trips you would do anyway, but I would never make extra trips for someone's booze

Daily trips to collect bulky items with queueing is very unfair on anyone, let alone someone with a disability.

No, unfortunately we’re an extremely small family and I’m the only person locally. He’s not a sociable person so doesn’t really have any friends. We’ll manage somehow!
