Seriously, just stay at home!

I work in a petrol station so we are currently open for essentials / fuel.
But, I cannot believe the amount of people coming in for daily newspapers, drinks and sweets and generally browsing! Especially the older generation that don't seem to think it's serious at all.
It scares me, I have to be here but they don't. We're asking people to pay by card but most people are paying cash!
I don't want to be here and I'm terrified I'm going to take it home to my family.

Please people, stay home!!

it's about minimising risk surely. I pop to the shops each day very briefly at a quiet time, I wont go in the shop if it's busy or they aren't limiting numbers. I figure it's better to do a daily small shop doing a quick in/ out shop grabbing a few items than trailing round a busy supermarket for a big shop. I wipe down shopping when I buy it, I was hands immediately, I even wipe down my steering wheel and bank card. I had to pay cash today as my elderly dad wanted stuff getting and gave me cash but I wiped it down before paying for anything. You can only be as careful as possible in the best way you think you can minimise risk.

@Babyroobs I disagree. I have this conversation with my mum daily who is nipping to the coop to do a big shop to last a week.

By going every day your exposing yourself to everybody that has entered that shop that day, think of Coronavirus like glitter. Gets everywhere.l doesn't it. Your exposing yourself to that every day.

By going to a supermarket once a week your limiting your contact. Glitter will still be there but you go in, come home, wash done. Once a week.

If people are coming in to just browse then the manager/owner/ head office need to be putting up signs to advise people not to do this.

@Babyroobs completely disagree. We should be shopping as infrequently as possible. You popping in everyday doesn't do anything to limit spread and contact with others. You are increasing your chances. Not to mention massively unfair on those people having to serve you. Also I would never have given cash. Would have kept the cash and paid by card as it's safer for those working.

Agree with you OP. It’s not just the increased risk to themselves, they should think of the poor staff who have no choice.

Hasn’t this been done to death now?. Surely we must now all accept that it is what it is and moaning online is unproductive as a way to stop this?

To be honest the problem is that you just can't get the stuff you need on any one day anyway ! one day there may be toilet rolls but no meat , another day there's milk but not bread so what are people meant to do? There are no supermarket delivery slots for weeks either ? seriously I'm at a loss at to what to do?

Yes @Babyroobs your logic is flawed. As @Undomesticgodde55 says you risk it every time you leave the house. Follow the rules: only leave for essential shopping and MINIMISE the amount of times you have to do this.

I’m going twice week, using the self scan and paying by card to minimise contact.
I’ve 2 other adults, not allowed out of the house so once would be enough.

Goingfarawsy you'd think it was done to death and everyone would be clear by now. But ... the very first answer on this thread was by a poster who is still 'popping' to the shops for themselves everyday.

Unless you have no means of refrigeration in your house there's no need to be doing this.

I don't know how anyone can say the risk isn't less by shopping in a small uncrowded supermarket more frequently than a huge supermarket where hundreds of people each day have touched the trolleys/ shelves/ self service tills etc?

Agree, the less you go shopping the better. My local Tesco is really well organised with one in one out, everyone keeping apart in the queue to go in and in the shop.

I'd far rather do that than keep popping into a small shop where you can't avoid people.

@Babyroobs because it's not just about the people you see. It's about contact. Let me put it another way, someone with corona comes in your local shop. Picks up a load of bread and later decides they don't want it and put it down. Later that day you come along and pick up that bread. This is going to happen in EVERY shop. By doing this once a week your are reducing the risk.

Every time we go to a shop we are at risk from a killer disease. It’s in the air, it’s in things we touch, it’s even on the roads.

So why would someone go out daily and increase their risk. It’s madness. You do not NEED a newspaper and sweets. Buy a weeks worth of things you need and stay the fuck home.

It’s different. It’s hard. It’s the new normal. Get used to it as we will be living like this some time.

The glitter analogy should have been used from the start and in all communications to the public about it, especially teens.

maybe the petrol stations should just close for anything except petrol then like they do at night. People should pay with card at the pump or at the little window but not go into the shop.

Don’t ask people to pay by cash - Refuse cash. Talk to your manager.

Maybe you could raise awareness in your community about this?

Fuel stations and roads in my region are extremely quiet. So it’s a regional problem. In fact some of our fuel stations are closing down as they’re so quiet

Maybe your local police could help? (Nicely, respectfully & without drones !)

I've found it much easier to stay away from people in the smaller shops.
In the bigger supermarkets shoppers stick to the distance in the queue to get in and the till queue but the rest is a free for all.
There was a only handful of people including staff in M&S, I could get around without even passing another person. Same with the co-op they're only letting 4 in at a time and you can only go round it one way.

Why is your shop still open? Presumably because your boss is putting profit before people? If they cared the shop would be shut and people could pay for fuel through the night hatch.
