Government tracking our movements - would you opt in?

Don't know if this has been posted anywhere, can't see it. The government are looking to launch an app to trap our movements and let us know if we have come into contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

They want/need 50% of us to sign up in order for it to be effective. Would you opt in?

Ha ha, nope.

coachman · 31/03/2020 17:30

If it helps to save lives I've got no issue with it. Many of us are unwittingly being tracked anyway by Google, Apple, retailers etc.

LastTrainEast · 31/03/2020 17:30

lol at "chip everyone with the vaccine" I see we got us our own conspiracy nut. mindproject shouldn't you be on Youtube

Sparklfairy · 31/03/2020 17:30

@BrooHaHa as I said above, it's just a question that my mind keeps circling back to, rather than a question directed at anyone specific here because I think we should give up our privacy.

Yes

Rocketmam · 31/03/2020 17:32

Whoever was looking at mine would be frightfully bored I'm afraid Grin

How exciting are the lives of those that would refuse? Secret service? Criminals?

Count me in. It's not like we aren't already being tracked if we have a mobile anyway. And I'd like to know if there was a case near me.

LastTrainEast · 31/03/2020 17:33

I don't use gmail. When it came out and they said they'd be 'reading' the contents of your email I thought that would never be popular and yet it is. Often with the same people who go on about giving up rights.

And of course everyone carries a phone so all tracked to some degree anyway.

TheFaerieQueene · 31/03/2020 17:34

I couldn’t care less. Tbh mobile phones can be tracked anyway.

Hannah021 · 31/03/2020 17:35

Never
i'll need to assess their system security end to end before i ever recommend any of this. And like 99% of places, they only use basic security controls....

Steer away

itsgettingweird · 31/03/2020 17:36

If they track mobile phones I wonder why no ones come round to check my ds still exists.
He's the only teen I know who forgets^ to take the damn mobile^ out with him Grin

Snorkelface · 31/03/2020 17:38

They've been running surveys on this for the last week. Tracking was one of the big concerns.

Peasfox · 31/03/2020 17:43

I actually wouldn’t mind although I see I’m very much in the minority!

Sparklfairy · 31/03/2020 17:46

Yeah @Peasfox, if they need 50% opt in and MN reflects the consensus of the general population, it won't launch anyway Grin

No, wouldn't sign for this. For the same reasons as I have a 'phone that only does calls and text, no internet, unconnected, left switched off at home when I go out so can't be tracked anyway.
And for the same reason as I have no Facebook, no SnapChat, no WhatsApp, no Twitter, no LinkedIn....no anything really..... Much better that way....

I would, yes, as long as it was only until covid was under control / no longer a serious threat

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 31/03/2020 18:09

No. Regardless of legislation and GDPR and privacy and what not. NO.

A vaccine? Yes sure. Testing? Yes sure. Stay at home? Yes sure.

The people that don't see how all these measures add up, that it escalates week by week and that they are a slippery slope are naive at best.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 31/03/2020 18:15

if you're not doing anything wrong then what's the problem?

Who decides what's wrong?

The police atm can't distinguish between law ,guidelines and opinion.

According to MN even breathing(especially outside) is wrong in the current climate.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 31/03/2020 18:25

If you're not doing anything wrong then what's the problem? Hitler is that you?

The problem is we are a free county. We do not track out citizens

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/03/2020 18:27

If you're not doing anything wrong then what's the problem?

What if I wanted to?

itsgettingweird · 31/03/2020 18:35

Yes! There are some on MN who do believe breathing outside is wrong - very well concluded in one sentence Grin

The point is they could have done contact tracing early on. They could have been doing community testing earlier on. This virus didn't just appear in the UK out of nowhere. It appeared via the people from our land who had been abroad and the people from elsewhere who we continued to let in.

I don't think they need to be tracking our movements as a catch up to their own slow start.

Whichever PP said even the police can't decide what is policing by consent and complete dictatorship and I don't want more powers given to those in authority.

mindproject · 31/03/2020 18:39

The psychopaths are running they show. They want more and more control. If you give up your rights and freedoms to them you deserve all you get.

NaviSprite · 31/03/2020 18:40

Christ no! I’m a fairly easy going person but that’s way across the line for me Shock

mindproject · 31/03/2020 18:40

*the show

IpeartreeI · 31/03/2020 18:42

They're not testing, so there is absolutely no point. It's laughable as they haven't got a clue who has it. I wouldn't give them my details anyway.
