Government tracking our movements - would you opt in?

Don't know if this has been posted anywhere, can't see it. The government are looking to launch an app to trap our movements and let us know if we have come into contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

They want/need 50% of us to sign up in order for it to be effective. Would you opt in?

I might be prepared to share some of MY data with the govt if I could first be tested to see if I had immunity.
Surely there are other ways to use tech to protect us, ways that dont lead us down a surveillance state pathway?

IdblowJonSnow · 31/03/2020 20:19

No. Slippery slope.

lljkk · 31/03/2020 20:25

Thanks for this publicity... I quite like the idea. Cool. Will look out for it to download.

goldpartyhat · 31/03/2020 21:34

Sounds a great idea. I could then shield more vulnerable members of my family.

Where can I sign up?

orangeicecream · 31/03/2020 21:40

I don't care who knows where I go... I've got nothing to hide...my life is not exciting enough for any focused attention. I agree that we're probably tracked already through our phones so why does it matter.... Does it stop you doing something you currently do... No unless you are being dodgy

No chance. Nothing to do with doing something wrong, but everything to do with civil liberties.

PickAChew · 31/03/2020 21:43

With the current rate of testing, it would be about as useful as a jelly hammer. So no.

TowerRingInferno · 31/03/2020 21:45

Not a chance

BoffinMum · 31/03/2020 21:47

I think it depends who controls the data. If we control it and can opt out at any time for any reason, it's not much more harmful than any research project. If the data are held by the Government in perpetuity, rather than 'loaned' to them on a strictly time-limited basis, then it's a dark development.

No doubt there are, but why invest in something if there's a chance instead of "persuading" the public to hand over whatever they fancy ... and all in return for some supposed benefit which may never materialise?
