Badly done Ocado

Ocado is in a complete tail-spin. My email to cancel my order was obviously missed - and I have just had to reject the resulting unnecessary delivery on my doorstep.
At the door the customer service person on the phone to the driver refused to speak to me ( 'I can't get her another slot')...
I'm sorry I know supermarkets are overwhelmed but this is really, really disappointing. Why can't Ocado get it together - online shopping is surely what it does?

I had an Ocado order delivered, during this lockdown. Bloody marvellous service! Award winning!

Driver knocked my door then stepped away. Asked if I was ok with substitutes. Told me to close my door and he’d leave my boxes on the doorstep. Then he apologised for not being able to carry my bags inside!

I had arranged this order a few weeks ago as I was supposed to have been away this weekend. I was incredibly impressed with the service, the delivery and the attitude from my driver Ian in the cabbage van.

So you tried to cancel your order and the email was overlooked, so what? Nobody died! Meanwhile families are mourning the loss of loved ones from covid19, jobs are being lost, weddings postponed and today I’ve heard about a dv that ended in the death of the wife and you’re moaning publicly that you ended up with too much food. Get a fucking grip op!

thegrumpallo · 31/03/2020 11:43

hmm. definitely expected the barrage of abuse from posters on here.

To clarify: I cancelled the order in good time for them NOT to deliver. An order that they created on the basis of my regularly booked slot - and then gave me no opportunity to update. I tried to contact them to mention the issues with the site, but no luck.
As we're not made of money, and since I had been very very fortunate to be able to secure a delivery slot with another supermarket I had to make sure that we were not going to be charged.

The issue is entirely Ocado's - this is a business; an ONLINE business at that. This business is not adapting well, and I don't think it's unfair to criticise this business for that.

All those swearing at me have clearly not understood the point of my post, which was entirely to relate the fact that Ocado in its failure to adapt is now ending up wasting all manner of resources - time, money, human, and yes much needed food.

God that poor driver.

You actually wanted him to pass his phone to you for you to put it to your mouth? Confused

BlackCatSleeping · 31/03/2020 11:47

Is your name Karen by any chance, OP?

😂

Greysparkles · 31/03/2020 11:48

I'm now apparently in the priority window to view and edit my order for Friday. It still won't let me on the website!
Ocado are completely useless atm

HavenDilemma · 31/03/2020 11:58

I'm registered with the government as highly vulnerable and also have a vulnerable child. I'm a single parent yet I cannot get a single slot with any supermarket even at 6am or 11:30pm! Not even a click & collect slot. Yet apparently they're "Prioritising the vulnerable" Utter rubbish! They are not.
My Mum is elderly and in isolation she's not had any help either.

So despite the government telling me I should be isolating for 12 weeks, I'm going to have to take my child & myself to the shops.....GREAT!!!!!!

cornishdreams1 · 31/03/2020 12:02

I for one think your driver should a super human ability to not give you a piece of his mind. There are literally people starving in this country and you are turning food away. Could you not have cancelled your 'other' shopping delivery instead?? No wonder there aren't any slots available for the sick and the vulnerable!

Just reading your post gives an insight into the thought processes of someone really out of touch, and although you may not feel any obligation to be considerate of others, there may come a time when you are in need and will hope someone is there for you.

Oh to be a fly in the ocado van when he left your house op....

cornishdreams1 · 31/03/2020 12:02

should - showed

MadameGazelleIsMyHomegirl · 31/03/2020 12:02

Op you are not going to get any sympathy here. People are desperate for any online order. All companies offering online food delivery are STRETCHED TO THE LIMIT. So bloody what if they missed your email? They’re probably snowed under and short staffed due to coronavirus. Have some empathy.

I'll have empathy with the vulnerable people who can't get a slot. Who could have had this slot if ocado wasn't so ineffectual at doing their job right now.

MysticWytche · 31/03/2020 12:20

If you knew you had a regularly booked slot, why did you book another slot with a different company?
What am I missing here?

Freshairimportanttoo · 31/03/2020 12:27

Op if ocado can find that email I'm sure they will refund you.

Just ask for any refund....

BentBastard · 31/03/2020 12:32

The NHS Responder service is now up and running. There are about 20 volunteers online in the handful of streets around me.

If you're vulnerable and need shopping sign up as an alerter and you can request shopping from a responder. I would be amazed if there was no one local to help.

PinkJam · 31/03/2020 13:57

It’s baffling that Ocado are doing so badly when they should be the best placed for this. I know a lot of people who are now using Iceland for deliveries when previously they would have looked down their nose. Iceland seem to be doing really well. Some businesses and especially supermarkets will find that they have lost long term customers due to the way they have badly dealt with things.

Agree they should be best placed for this, but I've found this week they have massively improved. Try early morning...

Wannabangbang · 31/03/2020 14:39

Refused? At this time, why? People are desperate for these slots so you could have donated food instead

Cohle · 31/03/2020 14:45

Why would the driver let you use his phone? That's hardly hygienic.

To be honest you seem to be in a much, much better position than many. I don't want to be harsh because obviously it's frustrating but there are lots of people who would love to have too many delivery slots!
