One in a shop and one delivering.

It just doesn't seem right. I'm so worried about them 😓

My dads the same 64 and still working. Plus he's a diabetic but only on medication.

user1497997754 · 30/03/2020 21:35

Who will pay the bills if they don't work

Miljea · 30/03/2020 21:37

I'm worried about the people they may be infecting!

flowerycurtain · 30/03/2020 21:40

72 year old farmer father still working too.

So am I mind you!

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 30/03/2020 21:41

Miljea what? Why are the OPs parents less important than anyone else?

Getitdonesharpish · 30/03/2020 21:41

My mum is 69 and still working as a nurse. Why would they be anymore likely to infect people than say a 35yr old shop assistant miljea?

Greenteandchives · 30/03/2020 21:42

I don’t understand. People are still working in key jobs. 65 is not retirement age now. Retired health staff have gone back to help out.

Lovemusic33 · 30/03/2020 21:47

My mums still working too, she’s a key worker (in a care home), my step dad is retired and says if she doesn’t go to work they won’t be able to afford to live, she has a compromised immune system but because she’s in between treatments she’s not on the “vulnerable” list.

Helenj1977 · 30/03/2020 21:47

I'm worried about them getting it, not infecting others. They're healthy, at the moment. Mum is diabetic but diet managed.

sqirrelfriends · 30/03/2020 21:48

@Miljea what a stupid thing to say, why would they be more likely to spread the virus?

zelbazinnamon · 30/03/2020 21:49

My 68 year old dad is still working - he’s a doctor.

My 67 year old mum isn’t doing paid work but is still running the local foodbank.

bigchris · 30/03/2020 21:49

Average Retirement age is around 67

My aunt is still working at 68 as a cleaner

70 year old uncle working in Asda

zelbazinnamon · 30/03/2020 21:50

I dunno - I worry about them but it doesn’t seem weird that they are working, DH is also a keyworker so only me (SAHM) is at home anyway which is quite normal...

WinstonWolf · 30/03/2020 21:52

Given the higher risk for the over 60s, one does have to wonder whether policy would be different if retirement age hadn't kept increasing Hmm

Have a parent still having to navigate transport and an NHS job in late 60's, and am worried too OP Sad

Helenj1977 · 30/03/2020 21:54

Thank you all. I wasn't sure why I started this thread. Knowing that it's normal has made me feel better.

I've lost a lot of sleep worrying about them. I wish this would all bugger off now x

OP posts:
Helenj1977 · 30/03/2020 21:56

@WinstonWolf I feel crap that I'm sat at home and their not. Roll on when this is done and we can see them again x

Getitdonesharpish · 30/03/2020 21:58

I think everyone is worrying about everyone at the moment helenj1997. It’s understandable.

Laniakea · 30/03/2020 21:58

My 67yo mum has been invited to rejoin the nursing register! I imagine there are loads of keyworkers in their 60s. Why would the be more likely to infect someone than a younger keyworker? Hmm

I hope they stay well OP, I understand the worry.

YangShanPo · 30/03/2020 21:59

I'm another one with a 69 year old mum working in the nhs. She is worried too, she told me she's updating her will and sorting out her documents.

Helenj1977 · 30/03/2020 22:00

My mum has left her paperwork where we can find it. That didn't help me when she told me that.

I hope your parents all stay safe 💐

Their choice, Helen.

I'm sure they'll be fine if they observe the recommendations and I commend them for fulfilling an important service. I would be proud if it was my parents.

doodleygirl · 30/03/2020 22:03

Why are healthy over 60’s more at risk?

AmelieTaylor · 30/03/2020 22:03

Do ignore the pest - well known for their nasty replies.

@Helenj1977. I’d be worried about them too. If they are both healthy and your mums diabetes is well managed and they are being sensible then hopefully they’ll be ok. But I understand your concern 🌷

catfeets · 30/03/2020 22:05

My dad is still working on public transport. He's late 60s and recently starting to have his health fail. I'm more worried about him than the rest of my family - all are key workers so no one is getting a break from the chance of catching the virus.

He also goes out queuing at the supermarket regularly trying to get my newborn nappies and formula. I've told him to stop but he's worried about her running out as we are really struggling to get both items.

Actionhasmagic · 30/03/2020 22:05

Oh no I hope they will be okay. The anxiety it gives me about my parents... I hate it
