How's everyone doing? I'm really struggling with the motivation to get anything done at home whilst we are on lockdown. I had all good intentions of having a good tidy up and clear our around the house but it's still yet to be started and trying to keep an 18 months old entertained on my own untill DH is home from work in feeling totally drained. I'm stuck in the mindset of 'no1 is coming round so what's the point'. Never been someone to struggle with depression or anxiety and I'm usually pretty up to date with housework & washing etc but I'm definitely struggling with this and we are only a week in

I came here to say I hear you.
This could go on for weeks, we must get dressed everyday and do our hair. And everyday have fresh air, by opening a window or going into the garden if we have one.
Keep having your meds and take a good vitamins supplement. Especially vitamin d, essencial for our mental/ physical well being.
I have come to the conclusion that motivation doesn't work for most of us. Hear me out, if we wait till we get motivated to do sthg, we'll get nothing done ( who feels like cleaning the whole kitchen, doing some exercise, reorganising the children toys, painting a room or sorting out all the garden containers ...)
Instead just do. Don't think about it, just DO. For instance if you were to clean the kitchen just think I 'll do only a draw for 5 min. Start with short amounts of time, 10 min. 5 min or 2 min. You can "cheat" your brain to say it 'll only be for that time and before you know it, things will get done.
Hope I don't sound too preachy, just sharing what it works for me, things in the past have been hard and i had to relearn things along the way to make it work

it's going to go on for months. Not trying to be doom and gloom but it is and we might as well get used to the idea.

Same and all I keep reading on Facebook is people scrubbing and cleaning their homes etc and I just can't get any sort of motivation !!!

ER1992 · 30/03/2020 10:44

Billboard that does all make total sense and I'll definitely be giving your ideas a go. Managed to get a load of washing in this morning and the kitchen and bathroom cleaned and heading out for a walk in a little while with DS in pushchair to get him to nap so I'm not doing to bad today so far

I'm still in bed....

Going to clean the car later and take the kids out on their bikes

And that's it....

@Bilboard I like that way of thinking - I read something like success isn’t from motivation it’s from discipline.

That said. I’m low today - we are in isolation as my sister has had chemo. I’m trying to get food delivery for 2 houses worth of people, and the stress and anxiety of it makes me feel sick. My mums elderly and doesn’t realise about the shortages as she hasn’t been to the shops in about a month. I’m a lone parent and been furloughed. Just feel like I’m trying to keep too many people going and I maybe need a cry and to pull myself together!

Thank you @Bilboard I love your mindset and have bookmarked your comment to read when I need reminding! This morning i have cleaned the kitchen and put on some laundry and have bathed both my small children and got everyone ready. Not too bad a start.

I told my friend that I am struggling with my own lack of productivity. She said that productivity is overrated and I should wait until I get bored with chilling out. So that’s my plan!

Enchantmentz · 30/03/2020 12:34

I like the idea of being bored of chilling to become productive ladygracie. I am struggling to be productive, general house cleaning and netflix. I have this week left of online lectures and tutorials, amounts to four hours and I cba. Also have two pieces of assessed work to which I have typed up in English but need to translate to another language which I also cba doing.

Keep telling myself I will do a before and after isolation progress pics. Starting with home fitness/lose weight and my current hairstyle short to long haired and semi fit/slim by the time isolation ends. Yet to start though Grin.

I have always lacked motivation.
I also think I must have had an ambition bypass while in the womb
Plus having no self discipline .
I always say that I have stumbled through life from one disaster to the next with no idea where I’m heading.
