Holiday booked for June - WWYD?

Hi. We booked with On The Beach to go to Majorca mid June, we have been paying in installments. I've checked and if we cancel now then we have to pay nearly £1000 for the flights, cancellations fees etc. I understand that if we are told we can't go then we will get a full refund.

But what do you think the likelihood of being able to go? Does anyone know whether you can change the dates with on the beach, so we could postpone until later in the year or next year?

Imo there is no chance you will be going so wait for flights etc to be cancelled and then refunded.

I’d be interested to know too . We’ve booked to go to Spain in July , we’ve only paid a deposit, the rest is due to be paid in April 11th. DH doesn’t want to pay as he doesn’t think we will go but I want to pay as if we don’t and we lose the holiday , I’ll be annoyed if we could have gone as it was a real bargain find!

We are booked for the last two weeks of August and I'm prepared for us not to be able to go.

To be completely honest I don't think we will either. Ar the moment on the beach have said, and I quote,

'The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has ruled against all but essential travel from UK airports until the 15th April 2020. As your travel date is some ways in the future, we anticipate that the situation will be resolved and you will be able to enjoy your holiday as planned.'

The situation almost definitely will not be resolved by then....

Look at what is happening in China: cases are under control in the country and new infections are coming from outside. Their reaction? To close the border to foreigners and that includes those with residence permits. This is the next phase in the process. No country will want tourists potentially bringing the virus back in.

I don't think you will be able to go but hang fire and wait until they cancel, then you'll get a refund.

I'm booked for July, doubt I'll be going but I'm continuing to pay it as normal. If I don't I'll lose money, if it gets cancelled or I have to move it then I'll get the money back.

My advice is to wait, see what happens it’s too early to tell, but definitely don’t cancel

We are booked for July (Greece), doubt very much that we will be going. We are going to wait for them to cancel us and hopefully get a refund.

I've got Turkey booked for 20 June. Balance due next month. I'm going to wait and see what happens.

I think there's no way we will be going. But I'm not going to cancel. I'll wait for them to do it.

If it was me I’d keep paying as if I was going and then if they cancel it you’ll get your money back and if they don’t then you’ll be able to go.

I’m still hoping that we will be able to go on our holiday we have booked for August. I have also booked a trip (U.K.) for my parents in June. I have to pay the balance on the 10th of April. I’ll pay it and then if they can’t go I’ll get a refund.

I’m booked to go on holiday in August. Final balance is due next month.

We are under no illusions it’ll be cancelled but we need to pay the outstanding balance in order to generate a future refund.

We have another installment due in April, then the remaining balance in May. I'll keep paying and hope for a refund. I've accepted that we probably won't be able to go, things are likely to be strange over there anyway, if you know what I mean?

Same, we go mid June to the canaries. We paid in full when we booked it though so just have to wait for it to be cancelled. The trouble is I've heard the holiday companies aren't giving refunds and only credits, holiday prices will go through the roof so unless they can swap it for the same holiday the same dates next year or something for the same price I'll want my money back as we won't be able to afford to put more towards it.

Exactly, they will sky rocket. I read that unless 30% of the hotel is occupied, they wont open. So they're gonna have to make up that loss somehow!

We've cancelled our holiday to Mexico - should have been going next Saturday (4/4) with TUI.

My DP rang on the 17/3 and they promised us a full refund but no one (according to the TUI and Mexico Facebook groups I'm on) has actually had a refund yet, including us! It's £3400 which we need as my DP is now out of work.

There is talk that the travel industry are going to offer people vouchers instead of a refund, to be taken within 2 years. Lots of people are very angry about this but there are fears that many travel companies could go bump if everyone demands a refund.

We have another holiday booked for Turkey in August which we can't pay the balance of until we get a refund for this one. We would try and do this over the phone if we could actually get through.

I’ve got a holiday booked for the end of July. I’m just leaving it till they cancel then I’ll hopefully be able to get a refund. We have no idea when this will end so I don’t want the hassle of having to keep changing it until we can finally go.

We're going in August and latest communication from TUI was that they hope to be operating by July 1st.

We are booked with On the beach early August, some way off yet but we need to make further payment by June, not sure we even want to go now so considering losing deposit rather than keep paying good money after bad, worried the tour operators will go bust.

We're booked on a holiday of a lifetime in October. Even if the holiday miraculously can happen, we are unlikely to be able to go as we now can't get travel insurance that includes CV cover. In that scenario, we wouldn't get our money back as we'd have to cancel.

That's interesting Mitzdob. We are booked for june but I've cancelled the hotel as it was a fully refundable booking. I can't a cancel the flights without losing loads of money so I'm just going to amend the dates. I'll rebook for September and if that doesn't happen then I'll book for next year.

Yes I see the problem when you still have more money to pay towards the final balance.

Why if the tour operators go bust and we are still paying money to them ?

But then If we don’t pay the balance will we be entitled to a refund ?

Am in the same position op and don’t know what to do either.
