I have totally lost my sense of taste

Sense of smell fine though. Other than a headache (too much wine last night), I feel fine. I've seen it reported that sense of taste can be a symptom of CV. Anyone has this and if so what happened next?

Thanks!

I have totally lost my sense of taste and smell, but have had the virus for 10 days now. I do wonder if some people are not getting any symptoms of the virus, but just the loss of sense of taste?

BlameItOnTheBogey · 28/03/2020 14:22

Have you had other symptoms as well? I'm wondering if this is something or nothing (and if something, what comes next?)

Weren’t they reporting that this was common in people carrying the virus last week?

BlameItOnTheBogey · 28/03/2020 14:31

Yes. That's why I'm asking about it. Keen to see if anyone else has had this and what came next....

I am on day 9 of the virus and day 4 of absolutely no sense of smell or taste. Burnt breakfast add couldn't smell it

Friends teen is self isolating purely on the basis of no sense of smell or taste

Frankiethree · 28/03/2020 14:34

I’ve had almost all the symptoms of the virus for 10 days now. The loss of sense of taste came on day 7.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/03/2020 14:34

I'd read about. Said loss of sense of taste, followed by headache, and I think it said these might be the only symptoms. Affecting younger people.

lyingwanker · 28/03/2020 14:39

I'm on day 4 of no sense of smell/taste. I think I've had symptoms of the virus for around 10 days now. Nothing major thankfully though. Have had body aches, fatigue, few headaches, slightly sore throat and my asthma has been worse than usual but not worryingly so.

FrankiesKnuckle · 28/03/2020 14:45

Day 7 of symptoms - day 5 was when I noticed no taste or smell.
I didn't really eat for the first 4 days so can't say for sure when they went.
I can 'taste' a bit but it's more recall memory than actual taste.

They've just started testing NHS...... and I was tested yesterday.
Now I wait!

Ontopofthesunset · 28/03/2020 14:50

Very similar for me. I'm on day 10 now. Mild symptoms like headache, body aches, sore throat, post nasal drip, burning nose and then from day 6 loss of smell and taste. Still tired and think I might be able to taste a little more than yesterday....No other symptoms left except a very occasional throat clearing cough.

itssquidstella · 28/03/2020 14:55

I'm on day 7 of mild symptoms - very sporadic cough, feeling generally run down and tired. I noticed I'd totally lost my sense of smell about four days ago. How long until it comes back, do you think?

NathanNathan · 28/03/2020 15:01

I had a minor sore throat, minor headaches and a burning sensation in my nose for about 5 days. Couldn't smell either.

This was before any of the social distancing came in at all, I merrily went to the pub with my friends and work on the tube.

Never occurred to me it might be COVID. Now really hoping it was and that it's over!

The burning nose was weird, never had anything like that before.

lyingwanker · 28/03/2020 15:01

@itssquidstella I read on the news app it's likely to be 7-14 days 😩 don't get me wrong, I am INCREDIBLY grateful that my symptoms are so mild but I am really missing tasting my chocolate hobnobs!

Ontopofthesunset · 28/03/2020 15:06

For five days I didn't have much appetite and then my appetite came back, but I can't enjoy any food. Still, it's fantastic for not eating more than you need to. There is no pleasure in it beyond getting rid of hunger.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 28/03/2020 15:17

Really interesting thanks all. I'd also read that this was the only symptom some younger people got. I'm not young (early 40s). But I am very fit and I wonder if that might make a difference? Or maybe not and by tomorrow I may feel a lot worse.

I am on day 12 and lost taste and smell on day 9.
Today is first day on no chest pains and could walk dogs without being out of breath.
But thumping headache and fatigue remains.

Theredjellybean · 28/03/2020 15:22

@BlameItOnTheBogey
I am early 50's and day before symptoms started I ran my first sub 2:10 hr half marathon.. I am definitely fit and healthy.. Never really ill... And this has knocked me for six.

Babdoc · 28/03/2020 15:24

A lot of us have been getting a vile metallic taste, rather like chemical or disinfectant. I think each patient has their own idiosyncratic reaction to the infection, with some taste buds losing sensation altogether and others “misfiring” , reporting tastes that aren’t there.
I had the vile taste for a few days right at the start of the infection, but it went away about a day after the awful “burning lungs” bit started.

50but17inside · 28/03/2020 15:25

@FrankiesKnuckle please please will you update ASAP once you have your results. I’m NHS and being made to continue going in to hospital but two family members have these symptoms despite the ENT UK recommendations. Come on PHE, change the guidance!!

FrankiesKnuckle · 28/03/2020 15:45

@50but17inside will do.
Consider myself 'lucky' we've had the trial run for testing.
I'm very frontline, loads of exposure prior to me getting sick, despite our 'adequate' PPE.

DH lost his sense of taste and smell two weeks ago; it came back just as I lost mine (about 7 days ago). In addition, I’ve had headaches and a burning feeling inside the nose which I’ve never had before. I can also smell what smells like burning cigarettes occasionally (with no smokers around and DH confirms no cigarette smell). It seems to be dissipating as I can smell and taste more things now. With these symptoms I haven’t been tested so no idea if it’s definitely COVID-19 but very suspicious with all these similar cases around!

Freshairimportanttoo · 28/03/2020 16:32

Yes please tell us frankie.

Op I'm like you!

40s and lost sense of smell and taste since Tuesday now but not much else, I'm also worried something else is coming. What we can't see is link between this symptom and things getting better or worse!

Freshairimportanttoo · 28/03/2020 16:34

Saukrated I too was asking dh if he could smell cigarette!

My nose felt very tingly on first two days and then that went but feels tingly again today.
