I have totally lost my sense of taste

Sense of smell fine though. Other than a headache (too much wine last night), I feel fine. I've seen it reported that sense of taste can be a symptom of CV. Anyone has this and if so what happened next?

Thanks!

@FrankiesKnuckle thank you so much. Take great care of yourself

Someone posted a link to a newspaper article about how other countries’ list of symptoms, which should lead to self isolation, are much longer than the UK’s, and think loss of taste/smell was in there. I’ve had it plus slight sore throat, and the feeling of starting a fever, which didn’t come to anything. Am now 6 days on and just have v occasional small cough and slightly itchy eyes. Only 24 hrs feeling anything approaching I’ll, and half of that was probably panic! Am in my 50s so not young.

You need to self isolate if you're not doing that already.

Day 13 and my sense of taste cam back this morning. My sense of smell is still slight and I just catch whiffs of the odd strong odour, but that’s a bit improvement on a couple of days ago when I couldn’t smell anything. I was entertaining my DC by sticking my nose into a raw onion and taking a a big sniff with no effect at all (am normally crying hysterically by the end of chopping one).

@FrankiesKnuckle I would love to know the result if you have a second to post. I know of someone who tested positive yesterday (not in uk) on these symptoms

Cheekychops73 · 31/03/2020 18:18

Hi guys, Hope you are all well. I have had a headache for the last 10 days gone away today so far and have had nasal drip, burning in nose and itchy eyes as well as some sinus pain in face, jaw and teeth. No loss of taste or smell though. I have assumed its part sinus infection and part hayfever (both I suffer from). Could any of you be suffering from this? I know that smelling smoke can be an indicator your sinuses are gubbed. I have be self isolatiing for two weeks after my five year old came home with a fever from school a couple of weeks ago just in case but I think it's more likely to be the sinus/hayfever thing with me. I hope they get these antibody tests out as soon as they can, it would relieve some anxiety for everyone.

OH!

In my house, DP (mid 40's and very fit!) isolated on Sunday 22nd because he spent the day asking me if I was cold... (I'm always cold!) but not on that day because it was super sunny and I pegged the washing out. We have a downstairs bedroom so he went in there and I did all cooking. We separated bathrooms etc.

On that Sunday having felt cold, his temp was 37.8 but only for a very short time. No cough. The next day he coughed three times in the morning and three times in the evening. A dry cough. He never coughs. He hasn't coughed since.

He said he just felt a bit odd rather than a bit off. I have to say his mental state collapsed (I won't go into details but the normal stuff was completely magnified into distress)

On Tuesday he realised he had no sense of smell or taste. That lasted until today - a week. He marginally had a scratchy throat. He was tired and slept more but he works stupid hours so time off would do that anyway.

SO
Sunday (just gone) a week later, DD 12 moans her legs ache. She coughs several times throughout the day. Went to bed early. Checked her temp throughout the day and at tea time it went to 37.7 .
Monday, she didn't get up. Can't put her finger on it but she aches. Her throat is scratchy. She feels a bit sick. Her appetite is low. She cannot bear the thought of school work and cries (last week she was totally dedicated to home online learning, did more than she would in school!)

Today, my back aches in a most unusual way. My hips ache and I am worn out. (I easily ran 6k on Sunday but even so, it just doesn't feel like that).
I stayed in bed today mostly because my back hurts and it's comfy to be on the softness.

As I put DS 9 to bed last night, he had one bloodshot eye. Today he has two bloodshot eyes.

DD hasn't got up. I just want to stay curled up and comfy but I don't feel ill.

@FrankiesKnuckle please come back to tell us your result!
DP would be able to work and visit his children if we knew for sure this has actually been Covid. (not that we would until we can get our own tests done)

FrankiesKnuckle · 02/04/2020 16:51

Finally I can update that I did test positive. There was a debacle getting the results to us - 'teething problems' apparently.

Fully recovered now, and back to work next week.

50but17inside · 02/04/2020 18:43

@FrankiesKnuckle. So pleased for you that you have recovered. What a relief for you to know that you have antibodies now. Thank you so much for updating.

usercheeselover · 02/04/2020 22:55

Thank you Frankies

Since Tues, neither DD nor I have moved out of bed.

I saw on a MN post but can't find that someone likened the exhaustion to early pregnancy. That hit a nerve. I haven't shifted out of bed through sheer exhaustion. If I had to go to work I would cry.

Dd is same still. We haven't moved.

I know we can't get a test but these mild yet odd symptoms following your path is reassuring. I don't feel ill with normal illness (my whole life of knowing a cold, or cough, or sicky)
This is just simply odd. And exhausting. I hope it buggers off now!

FrankiesKnuckle · 02/04/2020 23:14

Yes the fatigue for me was quite debilitating.
I do consider myself lucky that I've been tested and it was +ve - the not knowing must be so hard in some families.
The fact I can go back to frontline work knowing I'm reasonably safe and so is my immediate family is quite comforting.

usercheeselover · 03/04/2020 12:31

And for being on the frontline Frankies, even more thank you!

Does anyone else want to pop back and let us know how you are?

DD and I still haven't got up although we feel 'better'. Just complete exhaustion.
DS nothing at all and red eyes have gone.

DP up and about but no extra energy to do anything useful about the house. (Although quite normal behaviour there!)
