I think this kind of media scaremongering is totally unhelpful. The latest projections show that we'll be nowhere near Italy in terms of cases or deaths.

MadeForThis · 27/03/2020 22:59

I think it's sadly true.

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 27/03/2020 23:00

If people wanted to read scaremongering media bollocks then they'd go and read the shitrags them self. You didn't even bother writing a post..

behindlocknumbernine · 27/03/2020 23:01

I don’t see it as scaremongering.

It is a heartfelt letter about dealing with lockdown.
What we are feeling now is what they felt three weeks ago.

It’s not scaremongering?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 27/03/2020 23:12

Having read it, I'd say it's very accurate.

nitgel · 27/03/2020 23:19

'The true nature of the people around you will be revealed with total clarity. You will have confirmations and surprises.'

I am finding this to be very true.

NemophilistRebel · 27/03/2020 23:20

It sounds very familiar to how my experience is right now and we are only officially 5 days into lockdown

It’s not doom or scaremongering , it’s just the truth of the heart of what’s going on everywhere right now

behindlocknumbernine · 27/03/2020 23:24

“First of all you’ll eat”
“You eat again”
“You will put on weight”

Scarily accurate so far Grin

Lycidas · 27/03/2020 23:27

Very depressing albeit poetically done.

DuLANGDuLANGDuLANG · 27/03/2020 23:35

I thought it was beautiful.

Sad, a little scary, but it doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know, even if we are trying to squash it down.

Elderly people will disobey you like rowdy teenagers: you’ll have to fight with them in order to forbid them from going out

This is my family, definitely!

tenlittlecygnets · 27/03/2020 23:38

Have you actually tread the letter?? It doesn't say anything about numbers or money. It's all about the effects of isolating. Lovely article- give it a read!

Potkettlexx · 27/03/2020 23:42

Thought provoking and relatable.

I change my opinion on this daily. I seem to go from one extreme to the next. My DH and I even argued about it today.

I can’t help thinking that whilst it is a serious cause for concern for some, the vast majority will be fine if they get it.

I’m worried about the impact it will have on everyone for years to come, not least for the vulnerable children stuck at home being abused, neglected etc.... a social worker shared a frightening statistic on FB today about the children that suffer at the haves of this lockdown.

I also worry about those in abusive relationships.

I worry too about those with cancer who have operations that have been suspended.

I worry about how the economy will recover and where the jobs will come from?

I worry whisky we’re helping to protect one group, we will be going if at the expense of other groups....

Potkettlexx · 27/03/2020 23:44

Whilst* not whisky
Doing it* at the expense

Threelionsandalioness · 27/03/2020 23:51

Relatable

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 27/03/2020 23:52

It's a bit dramatic. Yes most of it true, but people have been through worse, for much longer periods of time.

Mummyshark2018 · 27/03/2020 23:58

Not scaremongering at all but very true and relatable.

Mummyshark2018 · 27/03/2020 23:59

Haplap · 28/03/2020 00:10

Facts are terrifying. Really no need for fear mongering, the numbers paint a grizzly picture all by themselves. We're on the same trajectory as Italy, using rate of growth of cases. But unlike Italy, whose death rate for cases with a known outcome is 45%, ours is....85%.

Haplap · 28/03/2020 00:11

This is a good place to compare the numbers:

www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

SnoozyLou · 28/03/2020 00:15

@Haplap I agree.

SnoozyLou · 28/03/2020 00:18

Oh but on the death rate though - that is skewed for us since it's early days. The ultimate percentage of cases that end in fatalities should fall as more people recover.

But it is a grim picture. Don't shoot the messenger for "scaremongering". They're just telling you their reality. They've been trying to tell us for months.

starlightgazers · 28/03/2020 00:56

It's well written, but the presumption we will all have the same experience annoyed me a bit as are all individual and have different lives etc. . I get they may be some things most of us could relate to, but I don't like being told how I am going to be feeling in a couple of weeks!

PicsInRed · 28/03/2020 00:56

Ffs it's not "scaremongering" to say it's shit when it's fucking shit.

Chouxalacreme · 28/03/2020 01:11

Well written

feelingverylazytoday · 28/03/2020 01:58

You will put on weight
Really? I've already lost 3 pounds. I have absolutely no intention of putting on weight.
