What do you clean your shopping with?

Do you clean your shopping to protect from coronavirus and what with? Looking after elderly parents and want to make sure we protect them as much as possible.

Hot, soapy water is sufficient

Keep them at the door for 2/3 hours if possible. And those that need a fridge spray with dettol.

And fruits and veggies wash with vinegar and water thoroughly and keep in vinegar water solution for a good 15 mins before putting in fridge (dried)

Nothing. I take things out of packets and wash my hands.

i spray the items with dettol (the trigger spray) then let them dry and wipe over with a damp cloth to try and remove the residue.

i wash all veg before putting in the fridge. if veg are in a plastic wrapper, then i just wipe the bag.

is it excessive?probably.

does it take long? no 10 mins max

why? no real significant risk on surfaces but not impossible to have the virus on items many other people may have handled. also, the supermarket are anti bac spraying trollies before re-use, so that struck me as interesting.

I am using diluted Milton. Am only buying fruit and veg that is pre wrapped.

Some with hot soapy water and some with bleach, rinsed very well. Then cleaning all my surfaces the shopping has touched and the sink with a different cloth and soaking both the cloths in bleach and boiling water. Then washing the sink again. Feel like I'm losing it

I've also been putting what I can in air tight containers and eating nothing from packets, emptying everything into bowls etc.

Anti bac wipes. Everything is wiped. Fruit and veg only pre packed.

Nothing. Putting it away and not giving it a second thought. I don’t want to eat food where the packaging has been covered in anti bacterial spray. I’m not convinced the spray won’t penetrate the packaging.

But what if the person picking the veg has corona, is it just that by the time it's got all the way go the shop it will be dead?
We've just got to think of everything, we'll hate ourselves if they catch it. They're fully isolating, we're they're only contact, not even receiving post.

Nothing. I’m just careful when preparing food. Wash fruit and vegetables as I normally would.

I’m careful when opening packaging and I wash my hands once I’ve stopped touching the packaging.

It’s more of a risk of allowing for example to be making a sandwich, opening up the bread bag and then rubbing your eyes.

Depends. Washed some tins in mild bleach solution. Non perishables I'm quarantining for several days. Removing all packaging wearing gloves and binning.

We're meant to be washing our shopping?!

Oh lordy at this point I feel like just wrapping myself in clingfilm and going to sleep in a cupboard somewhere. Wake me up when it's over guys

If it can only live on smooth surfaces for 3 days, surely apart from fridge stuff you can just dump it all in a corner and ignore it for 3 days?

Can someone show me the specific government advice that tells us we are at risk if we don’t do this? All I can see is that it says unlikely to spread this way and to wash your hands before and after touching the packing and not to touch your face. No wonder there is a shortage of wipes if people are using them to wipe down food

Nothing. It is pointless to do this.

Boxes that are dropped off are highly unlikely to have the virus on them because warehouses are usually cold and the virus can't survive long. Then the packaging is touched by 1-2 people and then delivered.

I think we've all gone a bit OTT with the cleaning.

Is there anyone who has caught this from non antibacced shopping?
