Just had an invitation to a play date tomorrow - I’m stunned

A mother of a classmate at my 5-year-old’s school just sent a message inviting us for a play date at their house with her two children and her neighbour’s two children tomorrow afternoon.

It was as breezy as ever. Almost as if she had no inkling of C19.I had to re-read it a couple of times to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood.

It's just impossible to get the message through.

DP rang his elderly ( + multiple health problems) parents last night and apparently they'd had family members wanting to come and see them "to make sure they were all right". (They have carers coming in so they're not totally isolated anyway.) Luckily they'd had the sense to turn them down.

WaitroseIsMySpiritualHome · 27/03/2020 19:28

I don't think I could leave that alone.

I would message back again saying 'Health IS so important, which is why a playdate is against the law right now. I really hope you aren't going ahead!'

But I can't leave stupid alone. I have to prod. Feel free to ignore.

Insaneinthemembury · 27/03/2020 19:30

What a dickhead. Sorry but how many dead in the UK today? And they're people who probably got infected before the lockdown.

UnaCorda · 27/03/2020 19:34

Sone people are so thick, it’s almost like they want there dc to get a virus that’s killing people. Worrying they reproduced really

I’d have to reply “ Seen as the country is on lockdown to stop people dying, it’s a no”

Seen? Hmm

Devlesko · 27/03/2020 19:34

reply, ha ha very funny, but we value our life too much. Wow you're brave with other people's children.

rainbowlou · 27/03/2020 19:51

FFS!! I saw groups of teenagers sitting laughing at people wearing masks outside Sainsbury’s today, my neighbour asked if I wanted to pop in for a cuppa if I’m bored and my mum sent me a voucher for my birthday and told me to go and cheer myself up at the shops!
Honestly this crisis slays really brought out some thick people

rainbowlou · 27/03/2020 19:51

Has really!!

LittleLittleLittle · 27/03/2020 19:52

OP lots of people are reporting these things to the police, their MPs and the media. Hence the random clampdowns in places plus things like this - www.24housing.co.uk/news/tenant-served-with-injunction-over-lock-down-parties/

Andy Burnham asked people in Manchester to tell him of people breaking the rules and got over 700 emails within 24 hours.

GabsAlot · 27/03/2020 19:55

i really hope it rains tomorrow-wont stop play dates but i pray people wont keep going on long drives to places for a walk

eaglejulesk · 27/03/2020 19:56

I'm speechless !!!!!

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 27/03/2020 19:59

I think people driving for 20 minutes to walk somewhere remote is much less likely to spread the virus than people going to other people's houses. Remember when they were contact tracing in the early days? They said to be in danger you had to be within 2 metres for 15 minutes, and you're most likely to be infected by people in your household. So anyone taking kids to another family's house is definitely high risk.

BeetrootRocks · 27/03/2020 20:01

Gabs what about the children in substandard or overcrowded accomodation with no outdoor space attached though?

That's the thing with all this, we are all in different circs and at the moment need to consider the impact of everything on people in a variety of situations.

CodenameVillanelle · 27/03/2020 20:02

@UnaCorda grammar twats are not helpful :)

PicsInRed · 27/03/2020 20:03

And this is exactly why well be in a proper lockdown soon, with police enforcing it with an iron fist.

@UnaCorda

That's really constructive and helpful. Hmm

Get a grip.

"Coarse phrases"? Crikey youve led a sheltered life! We say that to each other around here its a bit of light hearted poke at someone who has said something stupid.

Anyway i really dont think you need to be a more experienced 'anything' to understand that you do not have people from different houses congregating in your house right now. Its pretty damm clear! Why does she think all those adverts are on to tell us to stay away from each other? And her reply to op is pretty wishy washy not exactly confirming she has any real clue is it?

Now you are done with a personal attack on me against guidelines btw hope you feel better superior are you going to personally reply to all the other posters who calked her thick or a fuckwit before my post and after?

chocolateisavegetable · 27/03/2020 23:30

I'm a sarcastic cow, so probably would have gone with - "Only just seen this - must be something wrong with my phone. How many weeks ago did you actually send it?"

starlight13 · 27/03/2020 23:32

@Willow2017

Be kind. We could all do with some of that now. A lot of people are not taking social distancing seriously, even keyworkers are cramming in together and they should know better. These are difficult times for everyone. Be kind and if you can't do that, stay quiet.

Oldbutstillgotit · 27/03/2020 23:35

Our NDN has an adult DD and DGC living with them . Weather has been nice this week and every day there have been other children round playing on the trampoline and bikes. In addition other adults popping in everyday including octogenarian relatives .
They all watched as another neighbour was taken away in an ambulance wondering what the problem was .

Wiltinglillies · 28/03/2020 00:59

They all watched as another neighbour was taken away in an ambulance wondering what the problem was.

I'm finding it really hard that people just don't get it. Someone proudly announced theyve gone on a break for a few days to a nice rural area today. I was truly speechless.

Topseyt · 28/03/2020 01:13

People are thick. Far too many are, anyway.

beautifulteeth · 28/03/2020 01:25

Fucking ignorant twat

Some people are just as thick as pigs rolling in shit

Willow2017 · 28/03/2020 03:14

be kind the most over used banal, vomit inducing, throw-away phrase going these days. Often used by people who are never kind themselves just want to feel they are better than the rest of us.

Stop singling me out. People have said a lot worse than me on this thread. If you are going to lecture on kindness have the guts to do it to everyone or it means diddly squat.

UnaCorda · 28/03/2020 11:50

grammar twats are not helpful

But calling people thick and saying they shouldn't have reproduced is?

Was just commenting on the irony... Although I agree the message was pretty bloody stupid.
