Just had an invitation to a play date tomorrow - I’m stunned

A mother of a classmate at my 5-year-old’s school just sent a message inviting us for a play date at their house with her two children and her neighbour’s two children tomorrow afternoon.

It was as breezy as ever. Almost as if she had no inkling of C19.I had to re-read it a couple of times to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood.

What did you reply?!

PicsInRed · 27/03/2020 18:35

Mental.

Wouldn't even reply.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 27/03/2020 18:35

You know what though, a few times I've had to stop myself messaging friends to ask if they wanted to do anything this week-end lol.

People forget, maybe that was it.

Gillian1980 · 27/03/2020 18:36

Definitely reply! Tell her how silly she is.

Biscusting · 27/03/2020 18:36

I would just reply, apologies as it’s against the law at the moment to meet in groups like this then you will have to decline, but would love to meet another time.

Just be to the point, make it clear.

Elouera · 27/03/2020 18:36

Could their child have sent the text?

Absentwomen · 27/03/2020 18:36

Fuck's sake.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 27/03/2020 18:38

Sone people are so thick, it’s almost like they want there dc to get a virus that’s killing people. Worrying they reproduced really

I’d have to reply “ Seen as the country is on lockdown to stop people dying, it’s a no”

BeetrootRocks · 27/03/2020 18:39

Just go back and say thanks but no thanks, I'm surprised at the invitation as this is not allowed while we are in lockdown.

I think you need to say something.

She'll probably ignore you but still.

MowzersAsleep · 27/03/2020 18:42

Say this message has only just come through that she must have sent 2 months ago Shock

NowSissyThatWalk · 27/03/2020 18:43

Ffs I despair

Elieza · 27/03/2020 18:51

She’s obviously a fuckwit. Reply and put her straight. What an arse she is.

MeridianB · 27/03/2020 18:52

I replied that as the government requirement was to not go out unless essential and not to mix with anyone who doesn’t live in your home, we would have to decline.

She wrote back, saying “Of course, health is so important right now.” Confused

She is a (usually) intelligent woman who runs a really big, successful business. It’s baffling.

It’s definitely not a zoom/FaceTime/ Skype call is it - my nieces are having daily calls with friends which look pretty much the same as a normal play date - virtual dens being built and a lot of views of the ceilings for the 5 year old.

Davespecifico · 27/03/2020 18:56

I don’t think the woman properly understands. She appears to have read your text and thought she’d give you a polite reply.
She’ll still go ahead with the other parents. Crazy

HoldMyLobster · 27/03/2020 19:01

I had a text from a friend the other day inviting me over because we haven't seen each other in so long.

She works at the airport. In the nicest possible way, she's about the last person I want to be within 6 feet of right now.

Straycatstrut · 27/03/2020 19:01

I feel really, really awful for kids who don't have siblings/s-siblings to play with at the moment. It must be awful for them and so confusing to get their little heads around. My two are inseparable when normally they fight like you wouldn't believe, they're clinging together. I hope this is over soon.

Willow2017 · 27/03/2020 19:02

Ask her if she was born that stupid or had to work on it?

MeridianB · 27/03/2020 19:03

@Bookishandblondish I just checked the original message again to be sure but no, it’s definitely ‘come over’.

The fine weather is due to switch to a cold snap from tomorrow so it may discourage the ‘holiday mood’ for those who have yet to do the right thing.

Oh my....HmmConfused

LegoBloodyHurts · 27/03/2020 19:03

For goodness sake! What’s wrong with these people?! I posted earlier about my neighbours kids all playing together and calling over for my DC. I am taken aback by the stupid of some people.

Wiltinglillies · 27/03/2020 19:07

I. just. despair.

Weregoingonanadventure · 27/03/2020 19:14

I think I would have been much more rude than you were. Well done for the restraint.

mne13 · 27/03/2020 19:21

My DD (11) said to me yesterday she can go and stay with her friend for a few days, the mum did message but I declined!
I'm so glad I did as I have come down with an awful cough this morning out of nowhere! So now self isolating!
Some people maybe just don't think and I know so many people who are avoiding the news which doesn't help
