Why are the lockdown dates different all over Europe?

Amymayapple · 26/03/2020 17:18

Each country has given a date of when restrictions will be lifted. I am in Ireland and we have been given April 19th, it seems so far away, especially as we started restrictions two weeks earlier than the UK, so it will be five weeks total of restrictions for us.

How are they making these decisions, do you think? See that the two most infected countries in Europe - have the earliest dates of when restrictions will be lifted.

Dates announced:

Italy - April 3
Spain - April 11
France - April 1
Germany - April 6
U.K. - April 13
Belgium - April 5
Portugal - April 2
Ireland - April 19

The 'list' was due before midnight, but I think there is a slight delay. OP - Are your elderly folk able to skype/whats app etc? MIL is being put into a skype group thing.
For yourself, if you like to read there's a load of online library stuff available, just to pass the time. Or try online training things? This will pass, but I understand how upsetting it is if you are away from home.

@Zucker thank you, that was a nice message. I know we are all worried. My eldey mother is in a different part of the country sick with a severe kidney infection. She had a kidney infection so bad years ago that it developed into sepsis and she was in hospital.

She got this infection last week. They sent her home from hospital, with antibiotics, because of these Coronavirus times.

She tells me she can barely walk. And ahe lives alone. So I am really worried about her.

I will have to decide if it is best for me to be there to take care of her / risk of infecting her.

I think I need to be there.

Thank you @eggandonion I am just worried about my mum because she is 72, lives alone, and she is sick at the moment - just came out of hospital, and can barely walk.

I know we are all worried about our situations

Can she ring a gp tomorrow, perhaps she needs different medication?

Amymayapple · 27/03/2020 22:20

@eggandonion she went to the gp, and the gp told her to go into hospital because she was in so much pain, her gp gave her a letter to give to hospital to tell them to keep her in.

The hospital sent her home because they are only keeping beds for coronavirus patients.

So health services are compromised right now aswell.

My cousin was with my mum, and he told me she is in a bad way and she could barely walk to the car.

She was turned away from the hospital the first time.
She went back to her doctor, and the doctor gave her a letter to give to the hospital - to tell her to keep her in, because she was in terrible pain.

Ther sent her home again.

Ahem.... we're just popping in with a late night plea for understanding and mutual respect. Life is tough enough right now for each and every one of us so let's try to be civil; or better still, kind to one another.

EarringsandLipstick · 27/03/2020 23:06

@MNHQ why were my posts deleted? I think they are my first posts ever to be deleted! I wasn't rude (like OP) and my information was based in fact & first-hand knowledge of the Irish healthcare system.

Think I'm done trying to help or respond at all to Amy 🤷🏻‍♀️

EarringsandLipstick · 27/03/2020 23:07

Fliss think that's really unfair - I was polite throughout. The OP was directly abusive to me. I think it's unfair to tar us both with that brush! I was both civil and kind, actually.

midnightstar66 · 27/03/2020 23:22

Some governments are more cautious than others. Some put restrictions in place quicker so the initial time will be up quicker. Some had covid cases quicker than others -
It will all be revised and extended so current dates are fairly irrelevant anyway

DramaAlpaca · 27/03/2020 23:50

@EarringsandLipstick just thought I'd say that I saw your posts before they were deleted and I thought you were perfectly civil and patient. Don't let it get to you Flowers

playthestation · 28/03/2020 00:13

I said nothing bad at all so I don't know why my list was deleted.

CurrerBell1979 · 28/03/2020 02:08

We have just been told (but it was pretty much given) that the original date of early April will probably not hold. But I dont think that anyone was expecting lock down to be eased til may anyway. I know we are a small nation, but its still scales down/up, and we are taking the same approach as Singapore etc and testing as much is possible, it really makes a difference

I saw the posts as well, Earrings. Flowers
Don't waste any more energy on it.

EarringsandLipstick · 28/03/2020 14:15

Ah thank you Canterbury & Drama 🥰

This sounds very silly on an online anonymous forum but that's meant a lot today. I've been feeling really low & isolated - on my own here with 3 children, found working from home and managing the kids, their school work etc really challenging and so lonely.

I felt like I did everything badly this week and was so unmotivated, even to do the exercise that's allowed. I tried 3 times one day to leave the house for a run, but the kids were too crazy to leave alone.

Anyway, it meant a lot to see some kind words, thank you! 💐💐💐

eggandonion · 28/03/2020 14:28

I think everyone is feeling stressed, for so many reasons. I want all my family here - but we'd end up even more stressed, like Christmas! (Which is 272 days according to Fearghal Bowers).
It's very unnatural not to be allowed to visit family, it's very strange not to have a timescale.
It's also very odd to have rules that we can't bend a little bit in Ireland.
Very sad to hear that someone in healthcare has died, amongst all the others. Look after yourselves, everyone.
