Does anyone know the reason for this? I can't remember whether it was 70% of victims or 70% of deaths .

There is some interesting research in to this in relation to SARS.

'these data suggest that sex differences in susceptibility to SARS-CoV in mice parallel those observed in patients and also identify estrogen receptor signaling as critical for protection in females.'

The second vitamin D3 blood serum study in the world has been published yesterday.
It was a study of 780 Indonesian covid patients.

These are the conclusions of the study:
• Majority of the COVID-19 cases with insufficient and deficient Vitamin D status died.
• The odds of death was higher in older and male cases with pre-existing condition and below normal Vitamin D levels.
• When controlling for age, sex, and comorbidity, Vitamin D status is strongly associated with COVID-19 mortality.

When compared to cases with normal Vitamin D status, death was approximately 10.12 times more likely for Vitamin D deficient cases (OR=10.12; p

I saw a programme on TV looking at the science of Covid. They thought it was something to do with a substance (a protein maybe) that men have more of in their lungs

ACE2 receptor is on the X chromosome

Men have XY chromosomes.
Women have XX.

Women therefore have a backup ACE2 receptor.

ACE2 enzyme is responsible for reducing cytokine storms in acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Also men are generally crap at looking after their health and vitamin D3 levels.

Seems likely to be predominantly genetic factors to do with chromosomes.

It is of course well known that men suffer more with respiratory illness. Mers sars and the ubiquitous man flu.

It’s thought to be down to certain receptor sights in the lungs, which men have more than women and children have very few. Hence children are less likely to get it.

DH is definitely more lapse than me with stuff like hand washing, I have to keep reminding him, also my hand gel is always in my bag and part of my bag check routine when I go out and he leaves his on the side like his loose change and forgets to take it out. If I didn't wipe the door handles, they wouldn't get done, the list goes on. Not saying all men are the same but I bet a lot are so probably more likely to catch it in the first place

Having 2 X chromosomes massively improves your immune system. Women outlive men on most diseases.
When I say women, I mean biological xx chromosome holders.
