Does allotment count as exercise?

I could cycle there, or drive, and then do a proper work out. Huge allotments, a good 4 m from anyone.

We will be going to ours as our daily exercise. The nice thing about allotments is that they are like a park but everyone has their own bit and sticks to it.

vegas888 · 24/03/2020 07:39

Yes it’s headline news today.

Eireni · 24/03/2020 07:47

Michael Gove just said on BBC breakfast that it’s sensible to go to allotments. But not to play golf. Grin

Ploddingalong67 · 24/03/2020 07:48

Michael Gove has confirmed on BBC breakfast that you are allowed to go to the allotment as your form of exercise.

vegas888 · 24/03/2020 07:48

Seems the message has got through 😟😟🙄

ifonly4 · 24/03/2020 07:49

Michael Gove just said working on an allotment can be counted as your daily exercise. Enjoy!

jamrollyolly · 24/03/2020 07:50

Give just said an allotment is ok

Derbygerbil · 24/03/2020 07:51

@vegas888

Probably packed with construction workers - central London is one massive building site after all!

Eireni · 24/03/2020 07:54

Well they’ve cut the tubes but some people do still need to travel, or there’ll be no one to open the supermarkets etc.

I’ve just bank transferred a colleague £50 to get a taxi in this morning to keep her off the tube (commuting zone 2 to zone 5 in one of the ‘essential’ services on the list). I’m not sure how we’ll manage this going forward though. Maybe buy her a bike!

vegas888 · 24/03/2020 07:54

I’m just worried that it will get to the point where we can’t leave our house to even exercise if people just keep flouting the rules.
All those travelling on the tube without a valid reason should have the £1k fine handed to them, maybe that’s what it takes before people start listening.

dottiedodah · 24/03/2020 08:03

I was under the impression that we could exercise and visit parks /beaches as well ,as long as there were only 2 people at a time ,and we observed the 6 feet distance .I dont think we were told not to drive ? It was only one visit per day and gardening is surely exercise isnt it

daisypond · 24/03/2020 08:06

I don't think we were told not to drive
We were, ages ago. No non-essential travel. Is travelling to a beach or park essential? No.

Casino218 · 24/03/2020 08:14

No

LIZS · 24/03/2020 08:17

Not specifically exercise but Michael Gove has stated these can continue to be worked.

vegas888 · 24/03/2020 08:21

Well my neighbour is a car sales man for a well known dealership and he’s just gone to work, how is that a key worker?

LIZS · 24/03/2020 08:22

Garages are staying open, although not sure car showroom is as necessary as repairs, petrol and mots.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 24/03/2020 08:30

Michael Gove said allotment is okay to go to.
